The fact that the dramas cut the number of episodes due to costs is in many cases good for the plot itself since I’ve noticed they mostly cut out the “time wasting” scenes and avoid extending the plot with typical memory loss/car accident/kidnapping/sacrificial break up etc that usually occurs in the last 4 episodes. Personally I think it’s only beneficial for the story since it’s more focused. As far as YG goes-I’m following the K-entertainment industry since mid 90s and in the last decade I’ve noticed gradual decline in YGs popularity and profitability (we know about all the scandals that contributed to that) so it’s only understandable that they will try to downsize to cut the costs. But I don’t think it’s gonna stop their decline and my prediction is that in the next decade they won’t be part of big4 anymore but go to a small company status with a handful of artists.
I was surprised that Hybe Boy showed a picture of all members of BigBang, including the perpetrator (that's not T.O.P). People say that YG has used questionable practices when courting investors from overseas, and that it was involved in the big scandal, but it somehow got away with it all, never held accountable. People wonder why it's been above the law
I’m worried for YG. While in the short term it looks good to cut back in order to cut losses, they’re essentially putting their eggs in one basket. They should be diversifying and finding new partners and investors to stabilize the company. The tv market is flooded by kdramas now so I sort of understand why they’re getting out of actor management. But the Kpop market is also saturated and in a few years I think the novelty will wear off and only a handful or two will be left standing on top. If YG loses any of its marquee acts or they stop being popular the YG will have little options to fall back on for revenue. They have to think carefully. When BigHit was struggling they took on new investors and looked towards starting new businesses. They took chances to grow their corporation. It’s the only way to offset losses
I’m a proponent of healthy competition. I don’t want any one company (or even two or three companies) having monopolies on any industry. Monopolies are greedy and corrupt usually results in laziness. Healthy competition promotes innovation and desire to please its target audience.
Black Pink was their golden goose. But didn’t they wait too long and/or expect for too much of their come-back? Time passes and I end up wondering if these young women really want to resume their activities as a group? Or if they prefer to continue what they do each on their own and which for some is not music.
I think it can be an interesting fight for gg domination. The companies needs to do for LeSserafim and Illit what BigHit did for BTS. The girls need to go above and beyond in terms of choreo and singing. They need to set themselves apart from the rest. I typically don’t like gg because I don’t enjoy performances that require cutesy or vampy skin baring costumes in order to get attention. It only gets you just so far. Less lazy twerky jerky movements and more powerful dancing coupled with incredible vocals.

The first smart decision YG has done in a long time...

Lack of profit. Cutting cost. YG needs to streamline and determine what's profitable and not.

YG lacks vision or any kind of conviction, that's the difference (and the problem).
