Hattie Maloney (Ann Sothern) is a gaudy, good-hearted nightclub singer who tends to love above her station. This time, it’s pedigreed officer Dick Bulliet (Dan Dailey, Jr.), and it’s for real. But there’s one little problem: he’s got a small daughter so ladylike she makes Emily Post look like Tugboat Annie - and she’s not impressed with Hattie’s bangles and bows. And Hattie’s got a trio of protectors, three goofball gobs who think that maybe Hattie’s too good for Dick. This World War II musical sparkles with Cole Porter's music and lyrics.
Directed By Norman Z. McLeod, Roy Del Ruth, Vincente Minnelli
Starring Red Skelton, Ann Sothern, Rags Ragland

My favourite bit is around 01:13 when she goes from deadpan to the most radiant, warm, and beautiful smile one could ever possibly imagine. Her eyes twinkle.
She was so stunning and what a voice. She never ceases to bring a smile to my face.
Virgina O'Brien never ceases to cheer me up. Her singing of the opening phrase is one of the most beautiful I have ever heard. What a talent she was! I anyone a Warner is listening your ad notations are really, really, really annoying.
*Steve Little*: They certainly ARE annoying, but you can turn them off by clicking the bottom-right icon that looks like a gear. The "annotations" will have a button with a red line to the left of it. Drag the button to the left, and the ads will stop showing.
She had an amazing voice wow
Wow what a beautiful voice.....
She kills me. So unique and expressive in her subtlety.
WHAT A LADY 💗
Keep in mind that she is lip-synching to her own pre-recorded voice here. So when she charges at top speed through the list of all the things she now is, at 1:47, she not only had to record that but then pretend to be singing it (and do it perfectly) when shooting this scene.
I was just thinking that same thing while watching
One-of-a-kind gem.
love her
love her talent!
I just discovered this woman and already I’m crushing on her 😍😍
Virginia O Brien is so great. I'd watch her in anything.
Enjoying seeing her, we bought a lot of DVDs with 30-49 old musicals, She was in a couple of those,
One is “Thousands Cheer”
I love her.
How could she go so long without blinking?

She would have made a perfect Annie Oakley in "Annie Get Your Gun". I can picture her singing, "Doin' What Comes Natur'lly" and "You Can't Get A Man With A Gun" quite easily. Unfortunately, MGM couldn't see past her being a 2nd or 3rd banana, which is too bad.
Cole Porter, of course.
