  • The 2023 SCCA National Championship Runoffs opened with a lot of noise, thanks to American Sedan, and the first of 23 National Championships coming down the grid. Danny Richardson sat on the pole for the race, but veterans Greg Eaton, Clark Cambern, James Jost and Andrew McDermid weren’t going to let him get away easily. Who could manage the tires and the power of their freedom machines the best and come home with gold?

This is the class I wished they created back in 1970ish for amateur and low-cost Trans Am Replica racing. Basically, a stock body and drivetrain with no street of racing stuff applied. Just stock American pony cars. I've noticed that in this class and many other classes, the fields are very small considering drivers are invited from all the SCCA divisions. Cost? Interest in the class?

They did have A Sedan back in the 70s. 1966 to 1979 has A Sedan champs crowned each year before GT1 took over. Many in the 66-79 era A Sedan were ex Trans Am cars.

31:12 The number 5 that crashed out here looks like an IROC car and I was really confused for a bit since this is supposed to be a production series.
He really modified that thing and if there wouldn’t be close up shots of that car I would’ve really thought it’s one of the last IROC bodystyles.

It`s funny that both Mustangs blew up in almost the same spot on the circuit. Must have been Red Lining the engines and there was oil starvation the cars didn`t like the hilly track, haha.

Sad to see as has died. I remember when 20+ cars were in regionals. But they turned them into tin body gt1s

Why are they called " Sedans", when they are all "Coupe"s ?

I jumped into the action randomly, and wouldn't you know it. Typical mustang, push a guy off the road, then create an unsafe smokescreen and stay out, lol. Kidding of course, sort of.
