I am about to start painting my 97 chevy crew cab. Awesome video I have a whole new front clip like brand new parts and was wondering the best way to go about painting them. Awesome video dude.
If they come pre primed then I would scotch them and go on with some wet on wet primer then paint 👍👍👍
Good to see the products tip sizes for those ofusxtzrting on our own garage projects cheers Grant.

Awesome video, nice to learn new stuff
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊👊👊
Well done on another 1st class job. 👍👍
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊👊
Your right dealing with factory primer the way you do,use to scotch some straight off and primer but sometimes they come in some right states so had to sand it all off anyway.
Yeah I don’t trust it that’s why I always give it a good key and go from there 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Top job👍
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊👊👊

Hi Grant, brilliant video, the Transit van wing looks awesome.
🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊👊
Good refinisher chap I remember using the isoinate still think that and etch primer was the best way enjoyed watching
🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks, man. I'm about to be painting a motorcycle gas tank that came primed, but I want it to be as good as I can make it. It is my own restoration; I can do it twice if necessary, but I want it to be as close to show quality perfect as I can make it.
Awesome video as usual 👌. Master working his magic and skills. Thanks a million for the info, Always pleasure to watch your videos learn and improve... I wish I was your apprentice instead of times I wasted sweeping, tiding and making endless cups of tea for nothing. Enjoy your videos and info so please keep them coming. Thank you so much 👍👍👏👏👏🥰✌❤☘

Awesome this Grant 👍👍 got my notebook out and will watch over again, keep them coming please!
I got made redundant a while ago and would like to do a course in car restoration, being a massive car and truck fan, so these videos are superb in showing how to do things the right way 👍👍 many thanks 👍👍
stay well mate.
Loads of people have been saying that lately maybe I should start doing a training course 😂😂😂😂 👊👊👊👊👊
@@grantssmartrepairs Sign of the times hey mate, Grant I'd happily be on the list for any training course you ran mate 👍👍
Something worth thinking about for the fut👊👊👊👊👊
Thanks for showing us the way you do a job like this . If you have time to show you do a s/hand plastic bumper with a colour change thank and keep well.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊👊👊👊
Grant if you ware them white trainers people will be saying you are trying to copy Rob LOL
Nice paint job keep it up fingers crossed it don't rain
I knew someone would pipe up my black ones are dead 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pretty much how we do it where I work. Brilliant spray gun that iwata really recommend it 👌 good work Grant. You must love it. Lol. The motor trade - once you’re in it’s hard to get out. Lol.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Good painting grant, I mot the luton Taxi’s and they come in with paint peeling and nice shiny primer underneath 😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂 all in the prep
🤔🤔🤔👍👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hello looks like a very good job to me 👍
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊👊👊
Cracking video would love to give painting a go as you make it look so easy. I know I would f**k it up without even trying. Keep them informative videos coming bud 👍👍
🤣🤣🤣🤣🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
☕️👍🏻
🙏🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊👊👊
Another great vid waiting for you pull the Rs van in for a full paint job 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻😉👊🏼
🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Epic lesson 1 you now have 171 students
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for sharing that, really interesting to see how much preparation goes into it. I meant to ask after the van bonnet but is there any chance of you showing how you use the panel machines to get dents out? I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be interested.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 and yeah when I use it again I’ll try film some 👍👍👍👍👍
Great vid mate, nice to see how you operate, that mould on the ceiling looks like its multiplying and starting to spread
Yeah it’s not good mate roofs fixed apparently so I’m waiting a month to make sure then I’ll sort the roof inside 👍👍👍👍👍
@@grantssmartrepairs Thats good news , keep safe mate
👊👊👊👊👊👊
thats the same way we do it except we use wet and dry paper . on another note hope you are going to be changing units as that one has got well water logged now since been messing about with the roof seems like no body knows what they doing lol
I’m still looking mate the roof got repaired the other week but I’m not sorting inside until I definitely know
So honest and to the point what Pressure do yousss use for base and clear ?
Base I change quite a bit but roughly 1.5bar and clear is always 2bar 👍👍👍
Frozen white
👍👍👍👍👍👍
I agree with you grant, that's how it should be done 👍 I worked in a pretty big body shop a while ago ,mostly insurance jobs so it was basically about getting jobs though the shop, for new panels it was red scotch on the inside and grey outside with panel wipe ,not how I would have done it but the boss was more concerned with turnover ,bit of a twat to be honest !!😆
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍👍
@@grantssmartrepairs 👍 ,sorry grant, spelling mistake again I put but of a twat not bit of a twat ,anyway he was a twat !😆
😆😆😆😆 I knew what you meant 👍👍👍👍
@@grantssmartrepairs 👍
If carlsberg made spray painters
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👊👊👊👊👊👊👊🙏🙏🙏🙏
Tidy, nice to see someone cover the transport primer properly
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👊👊
Nothing wrong with belt and braces.Considering 99% of your work is sold you could say sod it if it peels in 6 months not my problem but you can see you have pride in the quality of your work and do everything right bodywork and mechanical rather than bodge it and send it down the road.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 👊👊👊👊👊👊
Grant give a clear called quantim clearcoat its superb cracking work as always big guy
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊👊
Another great and informative video, thank you,can I ask, don't you do anything to the inside of the panel, doesn't it just rust if its left in just the factory primer?thanks again
You can do there not painted behind from factory I just wax oil them before fitting for some extra protection, I can’t do it until the paint is cured 👍👍👍👍
Always thought the room temperature had to be a certain Fahrenheit to paint
In an ideal world yeah but you can paint in colder weather, but I can keep my workshop at a constant 30 degrees I normally heat up first paint then heat after so it’s normally about 20 in mine when I paint 👊👊👊👊
Multi mix 🤙
👌👌👌👌👍👍👍
Great work , what mask do you use?
Also do you have different nozzle sizes for base and clear? Or do you just have a dedicated clear gun to avoid contamination.
Also would you do a video on painting Matt and satin finish
Yes if go back and see I have different guns for each part and as for Matt and satin I don’t really do many because you can’t polish out imperfections with them finishes so best to be done in a proper booth 👍👍👍👍
Nice job. Great prep tips. Can you tell us what we need to to with the inside face of the panel or is that left in primer ? Cheers 👍🏻
You can key it up and paint it or stone chip I will be putting some wax oil on the back when fitted 👍👍👍👍
Whenever I gave new panels to my Litho painter, I’d make him prep, prime, paint and then stonechip the rear of the wings aswell (BMW tend to rot the front arches out). I think he hated me.
Yeah I’ll just smash some wax oil on the back when fitted 👊👊👊👊👊
It looks like I should have done my painting the way you did as mine didn’t look as good as yours
Keep at it 👊👊👊👊👊
Hi grant, really good video,i would trust you to paint my car,👍👍👍👍
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊👊👊
Cracking job, would you do the same stages on a full car too?
It’s a similar process few more steps 👍👍👍
Nice work buddy! Learning loads. What make of paste do you use with the grey scotch rite? Thanks
Presta scuff stuff
Nice skills. What size compressor do you use? Was there a point there when you was waiting for it to fully charge? Good to see you binned off the rust filled filters from the van work! Thanks for sharing as always!
I have a big 270 litre compressor which was turned off 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that’s why I was fiddling after I turned it back on 👍👍👍👍
Dont miss much me!! Great finish mate.
😆😆😆😆😆 I know I know I noticed the pressure dropped then realised it was off 😳😳😳 switched it on and came back 🤣🤣🤣🤣👊👊👊👊👊
Nova n gt5 👍🙏💚
👊👊👊👊👊👊
@@grantssmartrepairs love the channel fella us normal ppl can relate with ur content so thank u 👍🙏💚
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊👊
@@grantssmartrepairs real life channels like urs is why thousands. Watch no BS. 👊
Definitely no BS here thanks 🙏
Great video as always. 25 years ago I use to do a bit of painting, but it was cellulose then. Nice to learn new stuff. What brand of paint do you use and is it available to the diy’er. Got the Getson mask, cheers for the heads up on that Grant 👍👍
Gerson 🙄. Poxy phone 🤨
I use ici solvent base coat I do believe you can purchase paints online but I’m sure you will have a paint shop close to you, with a bit of google foo you could find one and find out what brands they stock and go from there 👍👍👍👍👍
😂😂😂😂😂👍👍👍 I knew what you meant
Grant a old gaffer of mine used the words piss poor prep leads to piss poor performance
That’s spot on mate 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great work! Came across your channel due to Jordan S. Would you mind doing a tour of your shop(more orientated on the extraction and how it works better for you)? Thanks in advance.
Thanks 🙏 will do 👍👍👍👍👍
@@grantssmartrepairs Much appreciated. I am mobile only now and looking at getting a small shop which looks similar but I am clueless on how I can make it efficient and how to keep the jobs clean in an area that I conduct both the repairs and spraying.
Yeah it’s hard work to keep them clean I’ll run through it in a video soon 👊👊👊👊👊
Why did you decide to use clear over base?
Its a commercial vehicle and would be painted in 2k direct gloss.
Two tenths activated would of been plenty and probably cost £18.
Nice job keep the vids coming mate
One reason only it’s for my window fitter mate that I owe a favour and it’s all I had in stock 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 and I’m only charging him a drink for materials 👍👍👍👍👍
Great video as always 👍
Can I ask why the floor is always wet down before you paint? Does it not increase the risk of slipping? Probably a stupid question but always wondered.
It’s to hold the dust down mate and yes it does but done it for so many years it’s ingrained in your mind to tread carefully 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@grantssmartrepairs Cheers Grant 👍 fascinating watching you work, love it, stay safe ok
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👊👊👊👊👊👊
Great work as usual. What's happening with the roof? Are you bining that unit/landlord and moving?
Roof has been repaired again so just waiting to double check before any repairs are made inside and yes I’m still looking 👍👍👍👍
@@grantssmartrepairs Good news then? You deserve better Grant.
Still hunting for one now but we will see 👊👊👊👊👊
What pressure were you spraying at their grant ?
Base coat was around 1.5 bar and clear coat was 2 bar 👍👍👍👍👍
