In England they used these engines to power Class 158 and 159 train units. We are used to hearing these engines in our trains not our trucks. Our trucks didn't really have these cummins engines in them. Our trains sounded like American Peterbuilts and they had the same Semi Truck exhaust stacks as a you'd find on a Kenilworth big rig as you would inbetween the carriadge joins.
I love those trains! They are my favourite. They sound like a Kenilworth and they have the exhausts of a Peterbuilt inbetween the coach joins. Totally bonkers idea of British rail to come up with that one. When British rail made the HST class 43, Wessex Electric 442 and all the other weird and wonderful whacky trains. They came up with this zany idea of making a train like a Mack semi truck. I like the way they sound like an American big rig when they leave a station. Wouldn't change these trains or their engines for the world. They certainly had character!
