    Many years ago (when ground chuck was cheap), my siblings and I joked that our parents had 101 recipes to make ground chuck. 😂 My parents also put out a plate of bread for those who wanted to eat bread and butter with their meal. I remember my Dad never took seconds until he was sure us kids had eaten all we wanted. I think it was mostly him, who ended up eating the bread, most likely so that he was full. ❤ This video brought back that memory. I think that most parents do the best that they can for their children and they have my respect. Thank you for the video!

    • @Iluvchknz
      @Iluvchknz 25 дней назад +3

      Agree…the ingredients in this video were not bad. Everything can be considered processed. It’s the ultra processed foods that need to be moderated. As a person who grows a huge garden and preserves food I see nothing wrong with this meal plan.

      @ashleebickley1222 24 дня назад +2

      There are some things that are ultraprocessed in the video, like the pigs in a blanket. But there are some things that are less processed, like the pork sandwiches, French bread pizzas, and chili potatoes.
      I think a lot can be done with $10... chicken thighs, sweet potatoes, and green beans. Pasta dishes. Burrito bowls, particularly if they are Meatless. Stir fry. But I also get that sometimes some people need more variety.

      Some advice… as your skill set increases prep and freeze the things you can to make homemade/scratch cooking easier and more convenient. For example, my family loves breakfast for dinner once every week or two. I batch make biscuits and hash browns two things I used to buy as convenience items and freeze them. I do this on the weekend or any day off and I make several meals worth. I also do this with pie crusts that I use to make pot pie.
      Also, learn to love your crockpot if you do not already. I have found some great instant pot recipes. I make from scratch versions of hamburger helper in mine that are so fast and easy. Good luck it does get easier.

    • @Iluvchknz
      @Iluvchknz 24 дня назад +1

      I forgot to add if you can invest in some of those souper cubes… I use these to freeze leftovers because you best believe my family is eating them. I freeze things like single portions of chili so they can be pulled out for lunch.
      Although, sometimes if there is enough chili left I will stick blend some of it. It gets frozen for chili dogs or you can best believe chili dogs will be in the meal plan the same week we had chili for dinner.
      Let your meal plan work for you so that leftovers are repurposed in to new meals.
      Also, when I make things like spaghetti I brown up enough meat for a few spaghetti meals. I just freeze the other portions and next time I want to make spaghetti I just pull the meat out to use. Spaghetti ready in the time it takes to boil the noodles.

You're greatly appreciated ❤ Be Blessed Always 🙌

    Thank you Jen for a video full of ideas for good, filling and economical meals. Most of all I want to thank you for your little reminder at the end about not judging and not being a food snob, both of which makes those struggling feel guilty. I work near hospital row in Toronto and there is a little church nearby which holds a food bank on Thursdays. I can't tell you how many times on Thursday as I wait for my bus that I overhear parents with their bags of donated food discussing how they are going to make the food stretch and how many meals they will be
    able to eat in the coming days if they are careful. I am blessed in that I have never had to rely on donations or worry about food insecurity, but I have empathy for those parents, especially mothers who skip meals to feed their children. The last thing they need is to feel more guilt about the food not being organic, or fresh or made from scratch. Thank you for being kind! You are an awesome human being, Margaret

I might suggest using fresh potatoes instead of the boxed, if you can. I sliced my potatoes and seasoned them well with salt, onion and garlic powder and pepper. I tossed in the ham and added about 1 1/2c of milk and also a little water. Covered it with foil and baked until the potatoes were super tender. Then removed the foil and baked till brown on top. The liquid had absorbed and it was delicious. It’s also fabulous to add cheese if you want to do that. You’d probably have potatoes leftover for your baked potato bar!

      Agreed they arent as cheap due to the bird flu, however, at 82 cents per serving (2 eggs each person/$5 per dozen) its still a steal on protein servings and could make a dinner way under $10. Cheesy scrambled eggs and toast or waffles/syrup would come in WAY under $10 bucks and feed at least 4-6 people well and yummy!

    Pork butt shoulder has been $1.99 per pound at my Kroger for weeks. They are all really big. I cut one into thirds and frozen two thirds. I cooked the remaining third in the slow cooker with sourkraut, onions, applesauce (didn't have any apples on hand) salt, and pepper. It was amazing!

    Budget Grocery Planning is my all time favorite task. It's just me but I try to help younger couples learn how easy it is and get them on track to become debt free. Your video is realistic, healthy balanced and easy. Thank you for all you share. I 100% agree with your "no judgement" clause. I have been there as well. Society makes a family feel insecure when they are not "keeping up with the Joneses" and following New Age way of thinking. None of your meals are unhealthy. Single moms do not have time to make everything from scratch.

    I love this, groceries are so expensive but shopping around you can find good deals. Would love to see how these same meals would cost at other stores.

    Hey 👋 Jen
    Great video it brought back memories. I too have been on both ends of this very important conversation. I first have to say to everyone regardless of your situation, never feel bad because you had to use processed foods to feed your family. You never have to feel guilty or sorry for a situation you have no control over. These were all great recipes and I know I would enjoy regardless of how much money I have. Hugs 🤗 everyone.

    think you for this video. I am one of those low income just trying to afford groceries for my family the best I can. I get so tired of seeing snotty remarks on videos like this policing what you all are using for ingredients. I always think entitlement when I read them. No one has the right to tell another person, especially a stranger, what they should or should not be using to feed themselves. it is sad that some cant have empathy even if they are not struggling. Our finances can change on a dime, no one is above losing their job or income. I dont understand why some feel the need to scold strangers on the internet, other than they are either self absorbed or they themselves are in a bad place and are just projecting their anger out on others. I appreciate all you do to make such informative videos.. I took notes for your recipes :)
