  • This is the complete guide to how i removed the gearbox and changed the clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder i my mk3 Ford focus.
    Ive done everything else to try to solve my sticking clutch pedal but now the only thing left to do is to change the slave cylinder. While i have the gearbox out i have also changed the clutch and flywheel.

    In the old days I would of only changed the slave cylinder unless the clutch looked to be on its way.
    Now I'm 64 i just changed the whole clutch assembly swapped dual mass flywheel for solid mass flywheel as its getting harder on the body lol. But just had to drop the box again the new slave cylinder failed a week off 3months, but I'm still glad I replaced the whole clutch assembly.2010 1.6tdci focus.
    And you must fit new bolts as they are stretch bolts.

      Jepp new bolts fitted. 👍
      I really struggled with weather to change everything or not. I'm not tight fisted or anything but it's a lot of money to spend on something I was pretty sure didn't need changing

    If I was keeping it and in a position to afford the parts,then I would change it. Keep em coming Mike.👍

    Pro tip, you can upgrade the lower engine rubber mount for the more sturdy version from ford focus electric. The acceleration feels much better. I did this on my 1.5tdci 4 years ago and it feels like a much better car.

    What lube did you use for the spline?
    Was any sealant or an o-ring used for the slave cylinder?

    Hi I’ve just started with the same problem on 2017 titanium diesel 16 . The garage thought it was bit you have replaced in the video and has replaced them and it’s still slipping. , so they said it might be the pipe or the master cylinder once’s these part have been replaced should the issue be solved , basically you’ve done the lot im going to by the looks of did it solve the problem for you ???? Thanks in advance

      I've also replaced the pipe and the master cylinder, for me it's OK when it's warm outside. In winter it was still a problem now it's fine 🤔🤔

    Since you are a mechanic I think it makes sense for you to change all of it as the impact on the value of the car should be positive. If I as enthusiast were to do it, there would be no real credibility of it being replaced anyway so then it would be a question of how long I am gonna keep the car and how much money I am willing to spend. But my gut tells me that I would do it still.

    • @mike_themechanic
      @mike_themechanic  4 месяца назад +1

      I agree with you. After looking at the flywheel and clutch it feels a bit wrong to fit new parts knowing the old parts were perfectly fine. If it were for a customer I would have advised them of the situation and let them choose if I fit it or not, but as it's for me I fitted everything and just bit the bullet even though it hurt my wallet 😂

    Tell us about the light bar behind the grill. Does it function good being hidden behind the slats? Did you install it? How is it wired?

    • @mike_themechanic
      @mike_themechanic  4 месяца назад

      Yes it works great, plenty of light getting out even if its behind the slats. Yes I fitted it. Have a look at the video with the kia as u fitted one there as well and I show how it's wired in

    I think at that mileage I would definitely change it if I was intending to keep the car for a few years .
    I wouldn’t have the ability to do a job like this if I’m honest. I was actually thinking of having a new clutch put in the streetka when I bought it , it’s only done 63k but was gonna have a lot of stick from my learner driver daughter who will use it sometimes but reading the stuff that came with it it had a new one in 2019 at 60k so that was tough 👍

    • @mike_themechanic

      It's not a massive job really and on these cars like the ka and the focus.

  • @prostmahlzeit

    Another detail not in the video is the correct amount of new gearbox oil. Its really weird on the manual 6 gear since you have to fill it up until it leaks out and then suck out like 100ml which is effectively wasting good new oil.

    Hello! Why you put Luk flywheel and not Sachs? I saw someone else to do same thing and the slave cylinder it use was FTE.
    Great job 👏

      The day before I ordered all the parts they had a Sachs clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder as a kit to buy. When I went to order it the next day the sachs clutch was out of stock unfortunately.

    hi, probably a silly question to you as you have the big brain when it comes to cars, my 2010 focus titanium just went off the road as my clutch pedal went slack now now cant get it in gear while the engine is running. recovery mechanic says he'd put money on it being the slave cylinder as its just now started leaking out the clutch fluid. is this likely to be just a slave cylinder replacement or am i looking at a whole clutch/master cylinder/slave cylinder replacement? thanks in advance

    • @mike_themechanic
      @mike_themechanic  Месяц назад +1

      If it leaking then you should be able to see where it's leaking. If it went suddenly then i would guess that it's likely the slave cylinder as the master cylinder usually gets gradually worse and then stops working at all. You won't be able to get any gears if the clutch dosent engage.

    • @DaddyDunva
      @DaddyDunva Месяц назад +1
