Very good battle. One of the best percussion battles I’ve watched in a while. I love WU diversity in they sound blending and structure but I’m loving MVSU funk and dynamics in they cadences! NGL a W for both!
@@CDAtheCPA style not drum. Even if they had the same drums they valley prefer the low hanging drum style rather the the level drum with a more precise technique
Dub YOU. Valley killed it. But WU was cleaner, more in tune with rudiments. And, they looked like they had something to prove. No high sticks. All level (Villanova influence). WU foe style & Grace.
Finally someone who see the difference in style of you into swac style of playing yes valley all day but I come from a different style of playing. If this was Norfolk or ncat going against valley you would still have guys think that valley stole the show. I listen to the rudiments being played and came up with my decision. Valley was groovy but not technical at all. But it’s all percussion and I appreciate the art of both.
Ay we have to stop this different style all inclusive vibe. It’s ALL percussion. Is the group clean and cohesive? How is the presentation of the sections within the ensemble? Draw the line in the sand and pick your side.
A battle is a battle people going to pick sides. People have preferences when it come to which style the more so enjoy. It’s all art just different expression of the art itself. My only opinion is that guys who grew up on that swac style of playing seem to not like the dci style of playing and hate when people point out that there was no technicality to the parts being played. Not sure if the don’t like it because they can’t play it or just don’t like the style all together. Me I like swac style but prefer something I feel is more challenging.
WU for the win, Valley quints aint even good enough to finish making a part for their cadence. They just sit there at the end of every cadence, thats elementary
Technicality vs groove. All depends on your style but I prefer wu. Coming someone who prefers to listen to dci lines rather than a line like JSU. I listen to the rudiments being played and wu snare line had more complicated parts that mvsu. Playing open diddles doesn’t count as a technical part
@@joshuarichardson3612 I have to disagree. The complexity and rudimentary vocab from both snare lines were even here. A little more sticking came from WU, but that’s it.
@@bigmeek1911 listen with head phones mvsu snare we’re playing basic diddles. Coming from someone who has been much involved with more complicated line. (Norfolk state) I’m listening to it on a much deeper level. Again it’s 2 different styles and I appreciate both but nothing mvsu played was complicated.
I understand, keeping separation, no apparent fights, things calm, and etc. But PLEASE why in the hell do all these spectators have to stand in the middle of them challenging? That goes for 95 camera men as well. Get tripods and set yours up and take a knee. It should be the only perspective camera men from those schools. Everybody else, give a full box around the sections CUZ THIS IS FOR THE SECTIONS to play against and see each others style and etc. All the crowding is too excessive yo. Ijs
@Joshua Richardson Dude! I could watch WU drumline all fricking DAY! THEY are the "force". They could get spots in Las Vegas Shows after WINNING auditions! Some of their stick work is better than Blue Man!
I have heard middle school kids play more technical parts than the whole line played. This is one of the Norfolk vs Alabama state battles. People have different styles they prefer but honestly dci style of playing vs someone like JSU or southern style is based off your personal taste. Me I seen this as wu has more technique but mvsu had somewhat a better groove.
@Joshua Richardson Facts bro it all come down to your preference, to me Valley was a lil more cleaner but WU was more technical. But WU snares was fih!
@@Thelightskindan they quints as well. It again 2 different styles. A lot of y’all guys like that swac style of playing but it doesn’t come close to lines like ncat Norfolk or even scsu. I appreciate the 2 different styles but it not my preference when I have taught middle school kids that can play mvsu parts. Check out Atlanta drum academy. Kids play much more complex snare parts than what mvsu played
Super satisfying watching a brand new band whip the butts of so many established bands

Cheers from VA! Both bands amazing and always great to watch marching band drumline battles!
Wilberforce my dogs they got my vote
WU clearly won this…. And I marched at UAPB so there’s no bias in my assessment
UAPB Btones so hard
Wilberforce got that ngl 🔥
Let's go Wilberforce!
Get them 🥷s from in between the lines SMH!! Let em battle face to face!!!
Valley wit the dub
WU droppin sticks n shii
😐
Wu for the win
Wu snares are college level the rest of the section is straight hs level with the material. Valley bumped chops not bumped grooves is a difference
MVSU❤💚🏆🥁🥁🥁🎶🎶🔥🔥
Wilberforce--Nice Sounds, also
Wilberforce with the Dub💪🏾
Valley, check those drum heads. Wforce snares give clean , crisp precision sound. Snares are always the showcase of drumline.
Completely different type of drum.
@@CDAtheCPA cant argue that, but for this style of battle sounds sloppy. They need to play 18th century style corp with that sound 😁

Wasn’t even close!!! WF with the W!!! If you think Vally won, clearly you are not a percussionist.
Valley sounds like every Mississippi/Memphis drumline ever created. They don't sound bad but I'll roll with Wilberforce

Exactly. If I'm making movies? Valley. If I'm judging skill sets? WU.
Wish the instructor would move from dancing in the middle of the camera…

I agree with the quints part. I've only been playing for 7 months with mediocre quint teachers, and it doesn't look that hard

Uh oh, I think Wilberforce beat a SWAC drum line!
Mark my words. WU is gonna drag the HBCU into DCI.
I doubt that. It’s already been done by scsu Norfolk ncat. Even Johnson c smith came out on a more dci level of playing.

@Joshua Richardson Each of these kids could pull $80K+ in Vegas. How close are they to Madison, WI? 😁
Bro tweakin Norfolk will destroy them a&t and doa as well
Most HBCU lines on the East Coast play with the modern style. Tonal bass drums, multi-tenors with six drums, high-tension tuning, etc.
