The quality of writing in journals and cutscenes is really something special. I can not recall that we had something approaching this level in the last decade.
This game needs a remake. One of the finest of all times. I got so attached to every soldier that I've named. To see them survive the battles, get promoted and evolve. This was a unique experience. Also a piece of my childhood.
I used to play with my best friend all the time. Back when you could sign into a server with dial up and not lag out instantly. Those were the days. I envy that your father played these with you.
wow ive never seen an upload in such high quality. Nice! I miss this game. Every so often I get on Twitter and harass bungie to return to their roots. 1 & 2 were such good games.
This game will never leave my heart. That moment when they pull the head of Keith Richards out of a beer stein is when my adventure in modern gaming truly began.
If Myth ever gets a remaster, it better have 2D animated cutscenes in it. that was one of the things that made it so memorable. 3D CGI cutscenes are cool and all, but these 2D cartoon interludes feel like a personalized stamp, letting you know just how truly unique Myth really is.
One of the top ten greatest games ever made. It was a heavy inspiration for my “Heavenly Realms” series of angelic war fiction. Loved the story, music, mystery, fan theories, mythos and cell-shaded cutscenes of Myth: TFL. Myth II had some awesome additions but Myth I was always a superior IP for its originality. And yes, The Chronicles of the Black Company by Glen Cook IS amazing and worth reading, especially for its inspirational purposes behind this unsung hero of the golden age of PC gaming.
Thanks for this. This journal narration always made an impact on me and as a teen I'd sleep to it. Then that video got taken down ): Myth is so underrated
@@JamesVigue I have! I remember back in the day the MBO site mentioned it was an inspiration for the games. I totally see it. Wish the Myth narrator did the audiobooks for TBC lmao
I grew up on Myth. Amazing game, not enough attention and popularity. I consider it a foundation of dark fantasy. Great video of preserving our childhood memories.
Today is Wednesday, August 3rd. When I saw that this morning getting ready for work I read it in the narrator's voice and remembered Crow's Bridge haha
This was my first computer game in 2000, Best buy sold it as a bundle with Alien Vs Predator by Rebellion. I played it religiously on my old computer. My father got it for me and he would watch me play. I was 10 years old, I'm 34 now and I still watch this video once or twice a month.
Still one of the best games ever. Great story. Full immerssion. You never feel that you are winning. Insane level of skill required on higher difficulty levels. Loved every bit of it
This game made a lasting impression on me. Someday I will write a story this epic. But I'll need a great composer...half of the experience is that music!
I LOVE the narration for this game. So much so, I intend on incorporating it into my own story on the latest chapter. I'll probably be using the Myth story style for section of the future chapters.
After Mandy's video I though he was holding the story back and not mentioning much to the viewers since he wants to go into the craziness in Myth 2, but no, what he said is pretty much it.
I would love to see these missions turned into short animated stories. Could you imagine a Love Death and Robots Myth version? Could you imagine seeint Berserks desperately tryint to kill The Watcher statue!?

@@idkwmytuni To beat legendary... you aren't really playing the game anymore. You're aware of where all the script triggers are, where enemies teleport in, and you basically pre-prepare ambushes for every single encounter, and game the system. It's.. also an almost complete non-use of melee units except for their movement speed to scare away ghuls and to bait slow enemies into following you. Berserks basically just.. send one guy forward so all the soulless fire at them and run circles, and they never change targets as dwarves come in and blow everything away. It's... gamey, and weird, but Myth's AI isn't great -- it's that the Myth mission designers were just.. gods of planning and understanding how most users would approach the game.. but once you understand the limitations of the script language.. it stops being fun outside multiplayer.. AND THE FRIGGIN' AMAZING JOURNAL ENTRIES!!
Well actually I don't really know where do they spawn or when the scripts trigger. However it is true how frustrating it is to have your melee units just sit in one place "just in case". Specially in Myth II where Heron Guards are supposed to be super badass against Myrkridia, but in reality they get destroyed in seconds. However I think the true problem is that the whole game is designed around the fact that you can save at any time. And because of that there's a lot of bs stuff that occurs because the developers though "well you can just save". And because of that I have to save every 20 seconds like a maniac.

Very cool.

And then dipped from the internet

I was born the same year it came out. I was introduced to it by my father too when I was little. Always loved blowing stuff up!
