Deutsche Grammophon holds its third international virtual festival as part of World Piano Day on Tuesday 29 March 2022. The comprehensive programme is set to delight pianophiles and new audiences alike with concerts on DG Stage, a heritage project on RUclips featuring video clips of great performers past and present, and a specially curated collection of piano albums on sale at DG Store.

how was it?
While the atmosphere of the original organ piece is rather calm, idyllic, and meditative, Ólafsson's sublime and avant-gardely bold arrangement makes the piece sound symphonic, cosmic, and fateful. Listening to this piece, you can feel as if you are contemplating the process of building a huge musical castle by stacking the melodies one by one elaborately and firmly.

Music, especially this piece and JS Bach in general, explains all there is to life, without trying.
Oh my, Vikingur played this as an encore in our Sydney Opera House last Saturday night. I blubbered then for the beauty, i am blubering now - a mighty beauty dearest fellow Man Mr Olafsson

Mr. Olafson cheered the audience when he came on stage, almost proud and earnest to share his musical project and headed not to fail them. In seconds, he was on his déjà vu supernatural cloud dragging us all with him. I am jealous of his courage and humbled by his childish bur genuine ups and down. Bravo maestro
Such beauty. The genius of Bach shines like the sun. I was not familiar with this piece or the pianist, but it was a moving rendition of the master's music.

I love the way Olafsson plays. It is so calming and soothing.
I agree. Víkingur is one of the best pianists of the last thirty years for me, and one of my all-time favourites. Through his performances, he has persuaded me that J S Bach can be played on a modern piano, even though I usually prefer to hear his music on period instruments. I wonder if Víkingur has ever considered playing an instrument with which Bach might have been familiar? I'd love to hear that! 🎵
I guess thats what it means to be master. I have never seen a piece by Bach he played that hasn't moved me.

I have enormous respect for Bach for his genius, but most of the time his music doesn't touch me in the same way like the works of Schubert, Mozart or Beethoven do. This is different. Really looking forward to seeing Olafsson with the Goldberg Variations next year.
