I’m in Seaside(7 hours from home Oceanside) right now watching this because I’m hitting the surf tomorrow … Perch is the realistic goal but a Striper would make my trip 🍻
Please drop a "like" if you're inspired by this video. I tried making this video highlight that it take work sometimes to get the fish you're targeting and to show it's not always sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes you gotta stick it through and you may just get luck on your side.
There you go! Nice catch man! I'm glad you ran into that guy who convinced you to stay. I was raised surf fishing in Monterey and have run into a wide range of personalities fishing there. Meeting other fisherman who like to share the experience / beach is what makes this.
So appreciate your videos. Sorry your wife got sick, that’s sucks. Great job catching the stripper. I miss being out there fishing. Very inspired. Stay safe. God bless
Thank you so much! That’s right. It is not only satisfying in fishing but it’s truly satisfying in life to put out an intention and actually make it become existence. I’m glad somebody else recognizes that. I really appreciate you pointing that out
Now you are up in my neck of the woods! (Coast) First priority was checking up on your lady which was smart of you, especially since all of this was on video. ;-) Good job on hanging in there and getting your first salt water striper. I caught a limit my first trip out about an hour North of where you fished in Santa Cruz County about 6yrs ago. I fished old school with a 12’ heavy rod and threw a Miki Jig. I could see bout 40-50 fisherman as I walked toward the waves and it looked like all were throwing pencil poppers or SP minnows and I did not see anyone land a fish. I figured nothing on the top so I would go deep. I caught my limit in less than 10 casts, 11.5 and 8 lbs. Everyone came over and asked what lure I used and not a single person that asked me had one. That Miki jig was the “go-to” striper lure 20 yrs ago. Tight lines
That's right. We're cut from the same cloth my friend. I felt terrible for Veronica. She got super sick. I had to balance out in my mind to keep fishing or check on her. once I did, I realized she was sleeping it off and it was a 3 hour trip anyway so I wanted to make the most of it. I wouldn't change a thing with this trip even if it was tough. I have a micky jig now too. 1 oz. good call realizing they weren't on the surface.
PNW FISHING TV LOL, that was crazy. I was literally at the edge of quitting. Actually, I take that back. I did quit. But that guardian angel from heaven was fishing that day and told me there was a school of Stryper within reach. I couldn’t say no to a few casts. I appreciate you watching
They're there all year long. the hot season is spring to beginning of summer. 110 jerkbaits like the calissa are good or bait fishing with sandcrabs. they must be 18" to keep.
One thing to think about when fishing for striper in the early spring season is that their metabolism is very slow. the large schools of anchovies have not entered shallow water yet and they are left to feed on small smelt and sand crabs which do not provide them with the same energy as the fatty anchovies or sardines. This makes them far less aggressive and less likely to attack the large SP minnow or other large, fast-moving lures. During these months I almost exclusively catch them on soft shelled sandcrabs, a slow-moving LC, or a small Kastmaster that are slow-moving and take the stripers less effort to chase down and attack
That's a very good point. Small kastmasters with a small feathered treble would probably be the ticket! thank you for that insight Everet. What sized kastmaster would you say? 1/2 oz?
yea, makes. sense. I was moving that LC very slow and I only got one tap out of that SP minnow. I have a friend who gets them on a 1 oz plug, but he walks distances and a good day for him seems to be 3 bites! Cant wait for warmer weather and anchovies coming in shallow!
joshua biggerstaff right! It got really depressing in the middle. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows. Thanks for watching and I’m glad you found it motivating! Hopefully we can pay it forward when we see another angler struggling out there
I appreciate that! It was a grind and I'm definitely thankful for that guy who inspired me to keep going. I hope to be that guy to someone else one day. :)
Nice fish. I know that area. You should see some of the stripers north of you. All along there from Monterey to SF have some amazing waters and stealhead creeks when the season is on. Great job.
Thank you! Yes, it was a great experience and the area is nice. I can only imagine it when the weather and surf is actually cooperating! I'll be back a few more times before summer when I hear it really gets going!

Joe Cuneo that’s true. Water seems warmer than they like and a lot more reservoirs with striper get flushed into the water every year
Where in monterey is this beach at ??

Brian N for real! It was hulas bar and grill. Their fish probably wasn’t handled or cooked properly. My food was good. I had pork tacos
