Love the underwater footage! Great shot of the paddle tail grub in action!
thanks Martin
Most helpful video I've seen on surf perch fishing. I'm a newbie but loves fishing & this video will be so helpful for my next perch fishing trip on the California coast. Much appreciated!
Thanks for this video. I like the tips of straight shank, tail orientation, and super glue. The 5ft leader surprised me also.
I've always used 1.5 to 2ft leader and circle hooks with live pileworms.
Thanks again.
Let’s go Edward! So much information in this vid. I don’t know if I’ll ever perch fish but after this vid I think I’m ready. Love these types of vids!!
When you come visit, we'll get you on a few!
Ed pare , thanks bro , for keeping your episodes , on tips and tutorials , it's so beneficial to your followers🤝🏼
Thanks JR
Limit of fin fish is 20 fish, with no more than 10 fish of any single species. Except shiners have their own individual limit outside of any others. So, much to remember. I almost hate to go looking this stuff up. If you mixed calicos, barred, and silvers, you could have 20 as long as you didn't get more than 10 of any one species. Least thats the way it's written.
Professor Edward, An excellent tutorial on the finer points of the Carolina rig. There is a solid reason you have been awarded an Instructor rating from the Rod Buster Fishing Academy. This fine program is a testament to your educational skills. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, thanks! Just trying to spread the knowledge from trial and error :)
Excellent! The gold standard for what this kind of video should be like.
Huge compliment thank you
Edward the Sensei of the Surf!! Great Video on the finer points of the Carolina Rig.
Awesome video and details Ed!
Thank you for the clear explanation. Simple setup and no live baits required.
Appreciate that!
Yes! I think they do sence the weather, changing, great video

Glad it was helpful!
Awesome channel man! Fishing content is my favorite on youtube!
This is the best info on this topic out there…..Brilliant video dude. Subbed
Thank you! Hope you find other videos we’ve made to be helpful
@@Hook2Cook I’m binge watching since I found the channel….trying to figure out how to break out of the tiniest perch caught club lol, going to hit that area next trip over…Morro hasn’t been to good last few times
@@thereadinesschannel7610 sweet! Just went out today and had some luck on the Carolina rig. A few on the 110 calissa too
Best how to surf video I’ve seen. Thank you
Thanks for the compliment
The first rig that I used to catch fish was the Carolina Rig, simple and effective.
Great video Ed :)
Awesome fisherman skill bro!!! Great job.
Thanks for coming
Great vid - thanks for sharing. 👍
AWESOME VIDEO BROTHER KEEP THEM COMING!!🐟🐟
More to come!
Hell yeah the Bread 🍞 and Buttah…keep grinding my brotha.
Always! haha the other options that day were crap!
Always appreciate your content. I’m headed to Florence, OR and will try my luck at surf fishing there. Typically I’m there for Salmon, but will gun for some perch. Also going with your recommendation Calissa :)
Very helpful. Thanks for that tutorial bro
Thank you for the great video!
Buena pesca amigo ecxelente explicasion del arreglo carolina saludos desde mexico ✌
Very helpful, thank you.
Sweet tips! Greetings from San Clemente😎
Very nice tutorial. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I’m here to support your RUclips channel brother
-Angling Daily
Thank you soooo much! From Facebook to RUclips!
New subscriber here. Ya, down here in So Cal ( Hermosa Beach ) I/we go much lighter than you Nor Cal guys. My set up;
8’6” Okuma MF SST salmon rod
Shimano Sedona 2500
Spooled with 8lb Izorline xxx copolymer with a 8lb-6lb leader.
Also, I always put my plastics/grubs on a 0/16-0/32oz leadhead hook to keep my bait a little lower in the water column.
For jerk baits. Same setup but 10-12lb Izorline xxx.
Thank you greatly for sharing
Daaamn brother!
The way you described that hole out in the water might make some folks blush. Hahahahaa! 😂🤣
lol Enrique get your mind outta the gutter!
Beautiful fish. Looks tasty.
Dope video bro... I like the super glue tip!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Clutch! Yea, it nice to have your first bait last a long time. One bottle of superglue can save so many baits!
@@Hook2Cook gotta get me some
Superglue is a great trick it also works great on your FG not less resistance going through the guides
Excellent thanks a lot
good skills!!!
Dude you guys should come perching up here with us up here in Humboldt county. Holla back if you guys want to. Some tanks up here.
Very helpful, but he didn't show the main line to the leader, which I presume it's an FG knot. But how long is the leader... Thanks, from the Navarro River,
That was excellent! More importantly I live about a mile from where your fishing, so Thank you for not giving exact location though it's rather obvious.. See you out there..
No problem! we never give exact locations on the channel.. it's the responsible thing to do. if you know you know! see you out there! Come say hi if you do!
Good video how to Ed.
Thanks Nelson! More to come!
AMYZING WOOW TANK YOU❤❤✔✔👏
Great video............what app are you using to check the tide changes?
The link to the rod you’re using is incorrect, same as the beads, but I was able to find it anyways. Thanks for such a helpful video. I’m gonna get out there and give it a try.
Hello, what is your recommendation for this type of fishing in relation to the size of the rod, the action and the weight it supports? Thanks! Best Regards!
Very Good Video 😊. New Subscriber 👌 👍 👏.
Great video! Super helpful. What happens when the perch bites off the tail or you need to put on new bait?. With the Superglue, do you need a whole new hook? Or can you pull the grub off and put another one on top of the old glue?
Yes you can just slide a new one over the superglue. If you try this you’ll see the first bait lasts so much longer
I've been doing that for years!! 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙 Just.... Never told anyone!!! Aloha from Maui!! 🤙🤙
Awesome
Thanks bro
@@Hook2Cook you welcome pare
Hello. What was the name of the mesh fish holder? How about that orange tube on your back? Thanks, Sean
I’ve caught most of my larger perch with a Carolina rig. Even caught a short striper on one.
lucky!
@@Hook2Cook Yeah, the striper was pure luck. Only happened that one time on a day when a grunion run was supposed to start.
What kind of sinker and weight do you use for drop shot halibut? Do you have a video tutorial?
Yesruclips.net/video/l1wVe3lqn8o/видео.html
Thanks for this video! Where can I buy the fish-keeping net that's hanging on the left side of your belt?
Thanks! It’s one of these amzn.to/3yeB3a4
What phone apps do you use to better prepare to fish.
Hey man what beach is that that you can drive onto? I’ve been trying to find one I can bring my Jeep to!
How much fluoro carbon do you add to the braided?
5ft leader BUT that depends of the conditions of the OCEAN/SURF ...right?
How much fluorocarbon line do you use??
Was that an 805 custom bait
Quick question. When fishing this way, does the grub "swim" to the surface?
It depends on the plastic used and how heavy the hook is. It’s mostly neutral
I just started surf fishing not too long ago and this video was great! But It's hard for me to tell when a fish is on or not. Any tips on how to tell if you have a fish on?
Gear will make a difference in bite detection. Line with stretch like monofilament won’t be as sensitive as line without stretch like fluorocarbon or braid. Your rod as well. A heavy rod won’t have as much sensitivity as a lighter rod generally. What the rod is made of can play a subtle role as well. But no matter what gear, raising your rod tip to feel for any change in line resistance will help you identify over time.
@@Hook2Cook thanks a lot! Appreciate it
What size grub? 2”?
May I ask what location that is?
Is there a size limit?
Can you use the whole small ones to catch something bigger? And if yes on what rig? What will eat it
yes, potentially. maybe a 3 way swivel rig, but the surf is super crazy and it wont stay alive long. Probably Bat rays or shovel nose would eat it.
You fishing Oceano?
Hi Ed what app were you using to show the wave power? Thanks
its a website. www.surf-forecast.com
Hello, I've been watching your video about caching perch, I'm interested in getting the VR 50, what can you say about the reel, coz they don't have
a good review on amazon.
It's good, but the one i got, the drag sticks and I lost a good striper recently because of it.
How to cast it without tangled up
I’ve never understood the pros and cons of a shorter or longer leader, can you explain it for this particular type of fishing? Thanks
longer creates a more natural presentation away from the sinker. it allows the bait to sway with the currents.
Would a longer leader have more chance to tangle with the main line? How do we avoid that? Will it also work for bait and wait as what your dad is doing? Thanks Edward.
is this at pismo beach
What’s the best weather app for the wave power
Not sure about an actual app but surf-forecast.com is good
How long is the 30# Floro that tied between the 30# Braid main line and the 12# Floro leader (5ft)? Will this technique work for Red Tail surf perch in Oregon? Thanks
It certainly should work for redtail in Oregon. Not sure if you’ll need a different sized sinker though. The 30# floro is about 10 feet joined by an fg knot
@@Hook2Cook can I use mono instead of floro fg knotted on main braid. Than use 12 p floro as leader?
@@pikeyboyfoo Mono is actually easier for braid to lock/bite on to compared to floro. And the little bit of stretch can be a benefit
@@Hook2Cook good looking out. Thanks man. Much appreciated
@@Hook2Cook Why that long? Why not just 3 feet for example? The shorter it is, the slightly longer it should cast right? Thanks.
So - I want to make sure I understand your rig. You went 30# Braid->30# Floro (with weight & bead)->Swivel->12# Floro->Hook Is that correct? Was your Braid->Floro just a line-line knot?
All correct. And braid to floro connected with an FG knot
@@Hook2Cook why the 12 flouro instead of continuing using the 30 ?
How many feet from braid to fluo?
This setup for luring or just cast then wait for a bite? Thanks
keep the bait moving
Damn! Is that a beach or a highway?
I use Kalins grub and they don’t float at all.....what worm or grub brand do u use that floats off the bottom?
the current does it plenty enough
So if I may ask what size did you use? I’m getting confused whether it’s size 2 or 3. Thank You
size 3
Would you use a Carolina on the pier as well?
Yea you can! High low setup is a good option with a heavier weight with shrimp if you doesn’t want to cast as much
I wonder if the super glue is a scent perch like ? Could super glue be a secret weapon? Hmm. I might try it for other species too. I bet ODFW will ban super glue later! 😅
Just to make sure, is the 30lb main line braid or fluorocarbon?
30# braid mainline to a leader of 30#. Just being clear and it’s not a full spool of floro
Forsure bro thanks for the reply, looking to get the penn pursuit 4000 with 30lb braid and 12lb fluorocarbon leader. Would you say that’s a good start?
So I ordered the hooks you have on the link and I could see why you use glue I don't know if it was just I got a bad batch or it's just cheap hooks but there were hardly if any bait holder barbs. So you're better off just using the standard bait holder Hooks and Snelling the hook at least that way you don't have to use glue
Good feedback.
What’s the best time of year to fish for stripers
spring is my favorite but late summer can be good too
What brand 30 braid do you buy?
Daiwa j braid or suffix
Do you notice any difference between 4 and 8 strand braid.....casting......reeling.......durability?
Durability, no, reeling and casting not really but 8 strand seems to get wind knots less
What beach allows all those trucks on the beach ?
oceano bud
What app are you using to check for high tide? Thanks!
Oceanwatch
@@Hook2Cook thanks dude!
What app was that for wave strength
www.surf-forecast.com/
Does the 30lb braid effect the casting distance?
It effects it positively. The braid diameter is equivalent to 8# mono so super thin cuts through the wind well equaling better distance than if you went all floro or mono
@@Hook2Cook I’m sorry I meant because it’s 30lb as opposed to using 10lb braid :)
Is there an advantage to using a barrel sinker over a torpedo sinker?
Direct connection to feel the bite. Long leader provides natural action… just a different rig with the weight in the middle of the line opposed to at the bottom
@@Hook2Cook Perhaps it's just different terminolgy but the torpedo sinker looks like a barrel sinker but it has eyelets on both ends. You could tie your braided to one end of the sinker and the other end would have your leader. The torpedo sinker won't be able to slide but since you're constantly retrieving, I don't see a difference?
@@Hook2Cook also wanted to great videos you're doing. The overhead drone shot of reading the surf was outstanding and really helpful.
@@VenturaSewerInspections yes terminology differences for sure. That torpedo could work but the ability for the line to move through the sinker allows for even subtle bites to be detected. An in line weight could buffer the bite and not let you detect, but it can also set the hook itself…. One issue of the torpedo could be leader line twist if not used with a swivel.
I can't find straight shank hooks anywhere.
Here! Size 3 . 100 for $8 amzn.to/3EZeDxQ
What time of year is best for surfperch
Year round. Just depends on the tides and wave strength. Big ones in winter. Numbers in spring and fall
Cool appreciate bro I'll go fishing this weekend ..Thanks
You listed a Daiwa reel in the description but that’s not what you’re using. How’re you liking the van staal? Quite different than the Daiwa.
Van staal drag seizes too much. Sent it in and it still does it. Wanna buy it? 😬
Are you in California or Washington?
Cali
Really juice hole that we got to hit!! LOL.JK good stuff yo🤘🏽
You already know! lol yea, that did sound pretty weird
