Thank you so much for this video. No matter how experienced we all are we always need a refresher. In many cases with a refresher even the best of fisherman will pick up a few things that they have either forgotten or never learn. Thank you again, Edward.
That’s why this sport is so beautiful. So many variables and you can do it decades and not know it all. The challenge is what keeps bringing us back
I swear I can watch you catch fish on the surf alllll day long. It’s so effortless for you!! Practice makes perfect!!! 🎣
The magic of editing makes 5 fish seem like 50 😜
This is such an awesome video. For an avid fisherman moving to SD from the southeast, I really appreciate guides like these that really sum up everything you need to get started.
Yeahhhh, let's get back to basics, braddahs!
Edward, your content just about covers the full spectrum of fishing we have in Southern California. I have to admit that when you're fishing inshore or offshore, that's what really gets me excited. Oh, the ten foot Okuma would be a good choice off the jetties also.😊
I always enjoy your surf fishing videos. Full of information. Thanks Edward!
This is such a great informative video. Ed you make great content!
I appreciate that!
Holy moly 43 minutes this video covers a ton of info
I really enjoyed this episode!! Thank you Edward. Yea there wasn’t many catches but it was very informative.
Thanks!
Good tips
love the content, just got back into it after a few year hiatus and your vids are so helpful. I've caught more striped bass this season than I ever have!
You picked a good time to come back
Nice video bro! I’m a newbie just starting out on the whole surf fishing thing, so all your videos really help…can’t wait for the perch pouch too 🤙🏽
Glad to hear it!
Going to be camping at Faria and will be doing as much fishing as I can. Thank you for all the info. We be beneficial next week. Keep up the great videos.
Sounds great! Thanks
Nice review on cuts in the surf….good review overall.
More to come!
just got me a lighter setup. got a 10 foot rockway witha 4000 size shimano nasci. i love it, caught some perch on it so far, cant wait for stripers. also just bought some battle stars and some swimbaits off the website
Thanks for getting back to basic s
I’m new to cayucos and been trying to find my niche
Been getting just one or two here and there
Gotta get back to basics
And I think the wave power is usually on the higher side when I go
Learning about wave power years ago was a game changer for sure! Keep an eye on it and take mental note of what the numbers translate to in your water.
First, I use a jerkbait. When the wind starts, I adjust my approach and switch to c-rig
Great tips for beginners! Regarding Carolina rigs, do you always use 1.5oz egg sinkers? Have you gone lighter? Is there a guide for #oz weight to use for what wave power range? Thanks!
Thank you for the video! Great content! Do you have use bucktails?
No bucktails… our beaches are pretty shallow to run those. Stickbaits work better in our waters
Hey man, loving the videos. I'm a beginner surf fisherman and you're getting me dialed forsure. I'm in SB and have been having a huge problem with weeds lately when throwing my jerk baits. Any recommendations on that? Would the Carolina Rig help?
If I were in sb, I’d use the same setup in this video but throw the battlestar XLS swim bait hook for halibut! Watch this video ruclips.net/video/UPcIi36AC2Q/видео.htmlsi=K5OaGRjhb3vwNCeX
But yes if you’re targeting surface try the Carolina rig
Hey Edward, do you trout fish? What is your recommendation for a good ultra light lake trout rod? I’m thinking the Okuma Celilo Graphite Ultra Light Freshwater Rods, CE-S-862ULb….with a okuma Ceymar Lightweight Spinning Reel- C-30……I’m fishing Sierra lakes…..you thoughts? I’m using a Fenwick Willow now and the Celilo 9-6 ML you recommend for throwing jerk baits for perch. It works great for trout.
Have you ever tried the Berkley ghost shrimp?
I usually fish early prior to sunrise (5:30-8 or so) - what color for calissa’s or battlestars do you like when it’s dark out?
Still the sardine glow. It casts a nice sillouette and that white belly is attractive
When are you gonna cut the SP rods butt end, I’m trying to decide whether I should buy one and do the same please hurry up 🤣
I’m ordering the replacement butt caps!
Have you tried beyond braid? I have a 7 foot rod and beyond braid makes me cast farther than my 11 foot rod math mono
havent tried beyond braid thanks for the suggestion.
how far should we cast, sometimes I feel like I'm to far then others not far enough?
It’s all situational where the fish are feeding. Usually low tide they are farther out. but keep in mind at the end of your cast you gotta retrieve slack in your line and it takes a few yards of retrieve to have the bait running at the right depth.
What brand waders do you use?

Are you going to the derby this year?
