Try switching to red trebles when you swap your hooks and tying an iridescent tail on the back one. Might not matter as much on days like thas but after getting smoked by my buddies, chucking the same gear (unmodified), from the same spots...
Haven’t had much luck or seen much difference with the red hooks. Really haven’t found 4x strong ones in red either. The tails have to be just right too. Too much hair can cause drag with casting and compromising distance.
@@Hook2Cook for sure. Gotta keep the tail light and the hook size on point with what you're swapping to keep the action and castability proper. Honestly, I don't bother with the tails much anymore. Well done lads, fishing and striper envy for sure! I still can't access any of my local spots and then I received a message on 4/24 from the Department of Fish and Wildlife that the opening trout season on 4/25 is postponed until June 1st!
Just started watching your videos and love em thanks! I'm based in San Diego and about to switch out my lucky crafts for Calissas too - so it won't hurt so much whenever I lose em haha. Hey quick question: for the norcal fishing you did here, what size calissa did you use? 110 or 140?
Sick! Definitely compare how both cast. Lots of people compliment on how consistent the Calissa casts without helicoptering. Thanks for the compliment as well! 🙌
I guess no social distancing either @moman4kids1 :P Awesome video and unreal striper bite but it would be great to see more people abide by the rules so the beaches near me don’t succumb to more regulation than what is already in place. Officers already patrol Pacifica to enforce social distancing which is necessary for how many people go there now, and the beach down the street from me (near this spot) has been swamped with guys since the pier closed. I’m afraid now that the already small beach from the spot in the vid will be flooded with increasingly desperate fisherman and potentially create less fishing access, which is a painful idea for the locals who are restricted to a 5mi (from house) travel limit for recreation. Apologies if this reads as a giant rant, I just think it’s an important reminder that having as much influence as you do on RUclips can surprisingly burn spots pretty quickly (especially when the trail and parking/entrance is included 🤦🏻♂️) I think some of us are “on edge” because we are first hand dealing with restrictions on more of our local fishing spots which is alarming and it doesn’t help at this time when more bodies get added to the remaining beaches. Again though, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a striper bite that hot and now I’m stoked more than ever to go out (and maybe try a calissa)
Hey, thank you so much for expressing your thoughts very kindly. The concerns are real for sure. In regards to the social distancing, it was the toughest thing not to fist bump on such a bite. Hopefully times can get back to normal so access is open everywhere. Again thank you for expressing your concerns the way you did.
Staying indoor is where people get sick. Get outdoor and fish. Fishing has natural social distancing since we have to spread around to cover more ground. Sorry if I get a bit political about social distancing, but nobody said anything about social distancing in all these 'peaceful' protests that's been happening last couple months, but social distancing is still applied everywhere else. Government and main stream media ain't very consistent, are they? Also, mentioning/hinting fishing locations or general fishing areas can help new or others who want to get into fishing but do not know where to go. Fish come and go, and hot spots do not stay hot very long. Seeing all these exciting fishing actions make us want to go out and try, but hmm wait.. we do not know where to go..
We’ve decided not to say this exact location. But there’s plenty of good spots out there. Try anywhere Monterey Santa Cruz area all the way to San fransisco
Wow! you guys found a super school of both hybrids and the original as indicated by the Broken lines on the hybrids and the true full lines on the originals. Both taste the same the hybrids just tend to be smaller given their genetics. Hybrids got introduced many decades ago when the DFW was called the DFG and ordered to raise striped bass as part of a program to reimburse anglers for misuse of striped bass stamp money that went to waterfowl hunting instead. Some never knew the Stamp ever existed and or how hybrid stripers came to be. Calissa wise how strong are the factory rings provided? Thank you if can provide this info and hell yah on the epic day given our access to spots is limited by the Corona virus restrictions . Might note some counties are making beach access hour restrictions as of May 2nd such as Santa Cruz county banning beach access 11-5. Might need to check, state, county and local ordinances on a regions rules established. There are hot lines to get updated info such as as the Calif state park website. Fines can be 1k and or getting your you car towed for making a mistake fishing in a closed location so check carefully before fishing
Hybrids are Stripers mixed with white bass. The broken lines are from when they use to farm Stripers to get the population up. They don’t do it anymore but with all the farmed Stripers mating with the wild ones they all are starting to have broken lines. 🤙🏽
@@JiG.ADDiCT YEP! all true . I worked for the DFW and quit after the corruption of the striped bass stamp scandal . Thousands of Striped bass were hauled off and dumped in southern Calif sloughs , then poorly used lakes and places where the bass were deemed not to be a threat. They are still considered a eye sore to So-Cal Large mouth bass anglers who take them and dump in trash cans while Nor-cal anglers pay for the right to catch a limit of two. We as Nor-cal anglers are sill owed millions in misused Striped bass Stamp revenue but many never knew the stamp existed in California nor the full story of what actually happened at both state and Federal levels. Population wise I also was part of a team that saved over 1000 striped bass trapped in prospect slough which became stranded after the slough was pumped nearly dry. Thousands more were lost as well as other species but no real punishment was issued nor restorations. Whats now concerning is the number of hybrid stripers that continue to expand southward and how the DFW will handle this expansion. Three measures at the state level (AB MEASURES) have been written labeling the species as non native and should be removed. Its laughable as large mouth bass are non native and eat salmon smolts out of the delta but the large mouths make the DFW money from tournament fishing while the ocean actually costs the DFW more than what they charge for ocean licenses. License sales in Calif ocean waters are also at a record low. Anglers in Santa Barbara south are finding striped bass in the ocean surf and have concerns about what impacts it will have on resident species.
