I'm a fan of moschops early game. Great berry gathering, they also harvest meat and hide and the best part they harvest fiber. Plus no saddle needed.

      @scottw2317 2 года назад +2

they are great at harvesting rarer resources like flowers and mushrooms as well. Also early, unless you have harvesting rates turned up getting that chitin for Pteranodon saddles isn't always easy but they get so much from even a single insect.

I prefer iguanodon. Only problem is saddle level is too high if im not wrong. But damn. Can get berry. Run fast. Jump. Deal damage. And making seeds. Peefect tame

@@zbychulatara I like the iguanadon also but yeah I'm pretty sure saddle is mid 30s by then your already rolling with a berry gatherer and should have crops started.

@@zbychulatara I love iguanodons, but they end up just being an exploration mount for me. They harvest so little berries I'd rather just use a trike. But for getting around quickly and carrying a lot of stuff they're great. Once you have a decent argy they fall off, though.

I also recommend taming those two dinos:
    - Pegomastax is useful for PVP game mode by stealing other players items, you need to let is steal your berries to tame this dino, it's a pretty unique taming method that most players hate, because it will steal usually steam random items from you inventory if you don't have berries in you last slot item.
    - Mesopithecus to tame you need to use passive method with berries. It can open up doors, reduced items weight by 50%, gather berries, and for the best part it will throw feces at enemies/hostile creatures (this is also Phlinger Phoo favorite shoulder pet that he likes to use).

They die so fast but having 2-3 of them following you around provides a bit of defense, imo. They'll pull dinos off of you and will harvest meat and hide for you. I like taming a few of them early on before I have a raptor pack.

Great list phlinger and incredible vid!
While these are some amazing picks, here are my personal picks for starter tames:
    1. Moschops - If you're lucky enough to find one who is asking just for berries they're incredible for your first tame, able to gather fiber, berries and meat is just a bonus that and no saddle required.
    2. Parasaur - I definitely agree with the parasaur being one of your first early tames, being able to bola them is even more so helpful. Tho they can't really take on carnos or any large carnivores so I usually try not to tame these as much but they are definitely great.
    3. Equus - Same reason as a moschops minus the meat gathering part, not only are these pretty good and decently fast but they can either be mounted with or without a saddle.
    4. Andrewsarchus - This is very good early tame but ONLY if you're starting on fjordur, with it needing just honey to tame (which is abundant in fjordur) is an easy tame, they also have the added benefit of not needing a saddle to ride. They're also quite fast and are fairly good attackers.
    5. Maewing - With such low torpor no matter the level they can easily be knocked out so long as you can trap them first. Being able to glide and swim rather fast is added bonus. They also can provide a variety of kibble tiers making taming other creatures easily.

Great video Plinger and many thanks for giving credit where its due on the Parasaur as so many people ignore them. I , for one always get one or more immediately as its sooo time consuming runing back and forth with resources for building and they carry sooo much more than I can. They make the best pack mules early game since they are so easy to tame. :)

Personally, when I start on a new map with a new character, the first thing I do after getting some clothes and a pick and hatchet is look for a moschops. While their taming food of choice may be random, they are a passive tame and you do not need a saddle. Look for one that will take berries, and you have an immediate mount. Find a high level one that will only take filet mignon, and you just can come back later and he may have decided berries are just as good. Tamed ones hit surprisingly hard for an early mount, and they are great for getting thatch, fiber, and berries right away. Leveling them up will allow you to specialize their harvesting, so even after you have moved on to other tames, you can use them to get a lot of organic polymer, rare flowers, rare mushrooms, etc. They have their drawbacks and can't be used as guards, but they are a great first tame.
While I agree that the Pteranodon is a logical first flyer, I usually don't tame one because their weight and stamina is so low out of the box. I would rather just wait a few levels and tame a Pelagornis. While their initial weight and stamina is not much better, and while you need fish rather than meat, I just find them to be better. They can walk/fly through double doors with ease while you are riding them without needing to do any special tricks. This means you can get them into a building for safety early on, and they are great for luring other dinos into traps. I have even used Pelas to lure Wyverns into traps. Once you have one, gathering fish meat is easy, and they are great at harvesting organic polymer.
But the most useful thing about them, especially early on, is that they can land in water. Better yet, they are incredibly fast while swimming even without sprinting. That means that when you get low on stamina, you can just land in water and keep moving while it regenerates rather than having to hope you find a safe spot on land and sit there with your head on a swivel till you get enough stamina to get airborne again. Besides, there is nothing funnier than being on a Pela and humiliating a Megalodon who can't keep up with you and cannot out turn you so you can simply stay behind him till you kill him or until he runs telling the other Megalodons, "I wasn't scared. You were scared!"

Dire bear is not early game tame
They are in the middle of the redwoods and require darts from the longneck, otherwise they have a big chance to die from arrows

And their saddle is unlocked at level 45 so its clearly a mid-game tame
Because you can't ride it even if you go to the redwood and survive and tame it there until you are in a mid-level
And for killing it with arrows ,it has a 62% chance of death by tranq arrow (as dododex said)

@@brennanorr2 you're right, only allosaurus, terror bird, thylas, raptors,micro-raptors, bugs... Are gonna be the problem in the redwood, the redwood is hard to deal with until having flak armor and good gear,
Many times micro raptors stun me, then at that time when I can't defend myself, all the redwood creatures comes to join the party.
So I still consider them more of a mid-game tame even with explorer notes run
