The hyenadon in particular heals very fast though, so if you sick your pack on something big and let them gnaw on it then back them off you can send them right back in without much risk of losing one. I've killed gigas with mine, doing exactly that, and found it very amusing. There are 2 dinos that you can get which get better harvesting rates for particular things, the moschops and the therazino. Both of them are quite good to have, and the theri is actually very well suited for a particular boss fight on the island. Prime meat isn't that hard to get really, and in my opinion it's better to get a moschops to focus on things like organic polymer. Carry it out to the frozen islands with the kairuku and get even more than you would with a club or sword. Handy little guys, and very very good early game tames if you get lucky that it only wants some cooked meat or mejoberries. The theri is a really good thatch and a pretty good hide gatherer, they do a lot of damage and are pretty decently tanky as well. Excellent tame, and very popular. Not many people use sarcos, but they are really really good in the water especially as an early game underwater tame. They are swift and pretty agile, while doing a healthy amount of damage. Just mind the Cnidaria, as the only dino which is immune to their shock is the basilosaurus (that I know of, anyway). Sarco is pretty great for getting early oil underwater, getting pearls, and exploring while still being able to fight back.

quick tip for metal gathering and smelting is to pick up your anky with a high weight flier to each node to collect and when you go to smelt the immense amount of individual metal stacks, just drop all of them from the anky in front of the refining forge and pick up all in the area and transfer all into the forge to skip going back and forth with metal from anky to yourself to the forge.
@@liamhigbee4308 an anky with at least 300 weight can carry about 6 stacks of metal (roughly 1800 raw metal). So you want an argi that can carry at least 300 weight along with the weight your inventory will already will have on the argi. Hope this makes sense.
@@liamhigbee4308 as long you hit the nodes ur anky will keep harvesting metals no matter how much overweight it is. The main role for carrying is of your flier. Mid game an argy with 1.5k-2k carry weight is enough. Later u can quetz or something else
Ah the Moschops. Theyy're like the larval form of the Theri ,literally do all the same stuff. Also my easy tip is with any carnivore =beat up trees for some early levels to add to weight and stam especially with your pteranadons. It's faster and safer
I would say that one of the biggest mistake I made with Ark in the beginning was to underestimate gathering ability and weight reductions of mounts, especially Doedicurus, Ankylosaurus and Beelzebufos, they gather so much in so little time and they can carry so many resources that it will instantly transform a normal game into an absolute titan of building and crafting even in solo. It may be a well known thing, but I can't stress enough how much the game changes after doing it, and they're also so easy to tame.
Great vid! Early game Moschops is how I knew you knew your stuff haha. My #1 tip is keep spiked walls on your hotbar--I almost never die anymore since I started doing that to drop them down in an emergency.
When traveling long distances by air or ground, Opening the global or tribe chat widow will let you auto-pilot. Also, when caving it’s a good idea to bring your backup kit. Ark happens and especially in caves. It really sucks losing all your best gear because the server crashed
Combine lazarus chowders with your scuba tank and it lasts a whole lot longer. Take the chowder and only equip the tank when you run out of air then unequip it. It's basically the equivalent of having a diplocaulus w/o having a diplocaulus.
This is an excellent guide phlinger, while I do some of these things unconsciously while playing ark, this is really something for some of the newer people who may not understand how to be efficient at ark and find some of the pacing slow and difficult. It’s funny you mention early game horses because that’s exactly what happens on my scorched earth playthroughs, really good stuff. Keep at it man!
What I love about Ark: you are always learning new things....just found out yesterday that if you puts Hesperornis eggs in a cooker (like to make kibble) they turn in oil not kibble.
Another useful tip: if you are trying to transfer metal into a forge from you heavy lifter (argies or other) do this to get it done faster. Instead of transferring from the argie to your inventory (you can normally only hold two stacks at a time then you cant move), land your argie close-ish to the forge then open the argie's inventory and throw out (O key on PC, not the drop all) all of the metal stacks toward the forge. Then jump off and get to within reach of the forge then if you pick up all (F key on the PC) and you can pick up all of the stacks on the floor and into your inventory. You'll get all of the stacks within the area your weight stats won't matter.
Ok, for each cave the strat is: Baryonyx rush most Cave of the brute with thyla Aquatic ones with a basilo (or icty/cactus broth + lazarus chowder rush, tbh I prefer icty) And the 2 snow caves, one is pick the cactus broth and hope you can rush it with a ascendant pump And the one you can use dinos is basically rushing with a deinonychus if possible unless you have a dino who can tank all the bears, yetis and wolfs I’m not that good with caves but this is most of basics
Great video just wanted to add tbough, force feeding a baryonyx is the worst way to heal them, use the bary to kill groups of fish w the spin attack and watch as every time you do it they heal tremendous amounts of health in moments. It’s the killing and consuming that heals them. It’s 10x faster than trying to force feed them.
Another good thing to know, if you have food that spoils soon, you can stack the food to have a longer spoil time if you have more fresh food. Drop the spoiling food, pick up the fresh food, then pick up the spoiling food again. It will stack on top of what you have in your inv. Also I just discovered that if you attach honey to a fishing pole regardless of the amount of time left, it resets the spoil time back to 20 mins 😅.. Been playing this game for 6 years!
I wish there was a quick little update for all shoulder pets to have the sinomacrops inventory button also a little addon to the equus advice, you can actually lasso unconscious creatures as well :)
I knew about teh Parasaur alert mode but never thought to use it like that. Also, was vaguely aware of the weight reduction of shoulder pets but again, never thought to use them like that. Thanks! I would like to offer a tid-bit in return. For players riding a mount in dark conditions who need to use a torch for light but also want to use a weapon. Take your torch and put it into your mounts inventory, then drag it from there onto the mounts saddle. The torch will now be attached to the saddle and leave your handies free to weild your weapon of choice. 😁
Sinomacrops get a 50% weight reduction to items in their inventory, AND shoulder pets get a 50% weight reduction when carried.. in total the sino reduces its carried weight by 75%! Also, you can access shoulder pet inventory without dropping them, on PC hold R until the menu ring appears.
This guy convinced me to play (with a let's play) 4 years ago and 4 years later I have a lot of advice. Negative advice (what not to do) from experience and positive advice from this guy. Thanks for the supreme content!
Just stumbled across your channel whilst getting back in to ARK after a couple of years off. Really love your energy man, I'll check out some more videos
Eat Rare flowers as a great way to get fast passive / fleeing types of Dinos to chase you into pens for taming. Dimorphs are great companions in caves to shred things while you sit back and watch.
Moschops eggs also are used for superior kibble which i thought topped it off in moschops being op tame in early game. can easily help tame a argy with this
If I had to give new players a tip folders, making folders in vaults, smitey's, person etc. Can help keep things organized oh and to switch the j hotkey to literally anything else besides whistle all command it sucks to accidentally that button then your spending the next 30 minutes to an hour putting everything back
Long time watcher never commented before. I love your stuff. I'm a single player veteran. Hundred's of hours I even have some of my own tricks I've never seen anyone use. LOL How did never think of carrying a Parry around LOL!
I've beaten the island and never once thought to use a Perry's ability as anything but a guard dog. That trick to find thylas in the redwoods safely is ingenious. Thanks for the great videos!
Great video! Amazing still how much you learn even after playing for years or what you may have forgotten. Only thing I wanted to add is the fertilizer for crop plots, personally I think making a toilet is the best, but I don't remember what level you have to be at so pending that for some, but it's so easy, when ready to poo, you can sit, poo, flush, and repeat for as long as you need. Each flush gives you the fertilizer in your inventory.
Using the toilet creates fertilizer. I'm not sure if it was glitching but I was able to poop in the toilet repetitively until I had enough to fill up all of my crop plots in my entire greenhouse, which was quite large, and it was repeatable
I wonder if you can add tips and tricks for making things? Such as gasoline or jerky or veggie cakes things like that, even how to find the rare resources like sulfur, obsidian, salt, oil, organic polymer etc and also which tamed or wild dinos produce these resources etc. like tips and tricks that ark doesn’t particularly show or tell you so you would have to do research
Wow the tip about Sabertooth vs Direwolf when harvesting meat and hide is pretty cool (I only play very booster single player where every Dino kill gets me 300+ of both)
One thing I noticed about the moschop, if you get a female one early on they have a large egg they produce every once in awhile that's early kibble if you start a garden
When u can get a stego they also worth investing in for harvesting as you can change their stance to specialise. And if your building, Castorides and Doed are a must
Using a Parasaur to find Thylas in the redwoods is the tip I needed to hear. I've been wanting to tame one on my current play through, but they're impossible to find until they jump on your face. Then your only option is to kill it and miss out on taming it or letting it eat you.
Get yourself an anky (metal, flint, oil) and doedicurius (stone) as soon as possible makes gathering large quantities of ores in combo with an Argy super easy.
On island, rag, Val, crystal, center, and gen 2, you don’t need to irrigate crops if they are outside. I’ve found that it rains enough to keep them watered. Also, I love hearing someone praise moschops. They are my favorite dino and a must have early tame.
I really like Pachycephalosaurus as great early game tames. They have good survivability, their torpor attack is great, and they're easy to tame early on as they don't require veggies (i know equus don't technically require them, but berry taminig an equus is a super chore)
I have learned so so much from watching your videos. Almost everything in this video I have used and learned from watching your videos. My most recent use was the hyenadon trap. Very useful and now I have 3 decent level hyenadons. You are doing such a great service to the gaming community. Thank you and keep them coming!
Early fert, phiomia will create a mountain of poop with relatively little stimberries. That alone works, or it can be paired with an early trike to get huge amounts of berries and thatch to fill a bunch of compost bins.
Haven't played Ark in a long time and just now restarting fresh for the nostalgia of those early game moments. Great refresher here! My biggest tip for new players? Watch Phlinger's Ark Basics series!
maybe a random comment but I absolutely love what you do and I owe a lot to you as I learned so much from you. as conceptually you go with series, they are hard to just jump in when I see you upload. I can't really keep up with your content a lot but I love that you keep doing it and whenever I have more time to watch stuff I find myself here so yeah have a good day I guess :)
There are a lot of things that seem so obvious and yet newer players won't even realize they can do such a thing! After playing almost 300h with my friends, I still have so much stuff to learn! I'm taking things slow though, I'm not in rush :D Useful vid for sure!
Yeah, as far as caves go as long as you're going in slow and steady, they're not too much of a problem. the underwater ones are a pain regardless, but as long as you've got the numbers tame wise going in, you're probably going to be fine even in those. I still kinda like to cryopod a megatherium, but if it's a cave where there's platforming to do, i'd rather take a thyla or a baryonyx
Flying dinos are more tactical guerrilla tactics survivability. They don’t just stand there and tank hits. That’s what i like about pteranodons. Low stats, but can destroy high stat dinos, with tactical combat. But it depends on the skill of the player of course
Quick tip for doing caves... mouth your torch onto your tames saddle... that way you have light and a free hand. Ive been playing for 4 years but only founf that out by accident last week
Alot of caves are also prime material farming locations, quite often I'll go in with one or two farming dinos crowd.Have them farm up mats and then leave
One other thing I’ve noticed about Baryonyx is that they regen a ton of health just by killing fish-even without eating the meat. Tried it with harvesting turned off and still works. Spin attack counts too. (Using PS5 in case that matters)
Thank you verry much. I just put my spare armour and my spare munition into my sholder pet. And the trick with the argy and the Parasaur was also new for me. Really good video. You are the best. Greetings from Germany. 👋
My tips: go ahead and tame a low level creature if that's all you can find. Some creatures are worth hunting, but some are just tools and it's better to have a lame one than to not have one at all 2: pick up 3 to 10 Dilos early on as caravan guards. You can often knock them out by hand if needed, and their spit makes surprisingly dangerous fights winnable.
Been watching your videos for a couple years, seen all of your season 4,5 and 6 (currently only ep 122 is out on youtube) and the two things I could recommend to you is "early tame" scorpions. They are great for chitin, it doesn't matter what level you get for the scorpions, but I'd say around player level 25-30 look at taming 1 male and 1 female (two if you don't want to wait for breeding and raising). Breed them, claim the baby, throw food on it for it to eat while raising up (you don't need to worry about imprinting them), and you can go about your day. Do this near air conditioners and you have an easy steady source for chitin especially if you have a Megatharium. (For those that use s+ you can even get the hatchery to pick up the eggs so you don't have to worry about loosing them). Great for making cementing paste with paired with a "Tommy" Doedic for stone. The second thing is when breeding, if you have baby dinos that you like and baby dinos that you don't and need to send them on a trip to Giga Mtn, put all of them on passive and then they won't run away when something near them gets killed.
Don't forget about creating recipes. Also, if you need help collecting honey then use a queztal with a platform saddle and have a direbear ride on its back. Fly up next to the hive, get off the quetz and ride your bear over to collect the honey from the hive. Thank you Philinger and give us MORE KNOWLEDGE!!!
a video on torpidity. like one that explains the best damage to torp ratio when trying to knock out those fragile tames to what does the cave loot guns to do torp when you shoot darts. that would be my thought. you have touched on it a few times in the years we have been watching ya
Tame 1 pig, level food on it, force feed it stims. All the poop you could use. Level food because forcing stims lowers the food and could kill the pig if you aren’t careful. Also if you do get a dung beetle later use can use this method to load it with poop quickly.
I think you made this just for me hahaha jk of course but it was a huge help to keep me moving forward in the game I have only been playing since 3 months ago and have gone leaps and bounds with your videos and with how amazing they have been can't wait for the next one I have to say at this point your my number one favorite ARK content maker your truly amazing 😊😉
Spiders Use spoiled meat the same way and can be force fed it for infinite healing. Further more fish meat in their inventory spoils in like 5 seconds I believe. Granted I recommend only using them on servers that have Kracken's better Dino's because he gave them the ability to climb walls. Which lets face it was needed. If their attack was better they'd be the best dino in the game.
With the torches you can also attach them to your dinos saddle by putting them in the dino inventory then equipping it to the saddle :)
Brooo that’s so good

@@liamhigbee4308 an anky with at least 300 weight can carry about 6 stacks of metal (roughly 1800 raw metal).
So you want an argi that can carry at least 300 weight along with the weight your inventory will already will have on the argi.
Hope this makes sense.
Anky can collect metal beyond its weight limit so it really depends on how much weight your flyer can carry.
Just FYI, Moschops aren't the only Dino you can change what they harvest best. Therizinos have the level up harvesting stuff option also. 😄
Well this video is kinda for early game
@@fatpotato3512 very true. Hope you win your case.
Doesn't the moschop only increase the reduction of weight?
@@kristinfrostlazerbeams thank you friend.
@@therookie710 no, you can go to it and press a button and select what it gathers best. Rare flowers, meat, sap, all sorts of stuff.
Took me a very long time before learning you could attach a torch to a saddle like a skin.
Why a diplo out of all dinosaurs
@@isakkilkki the diplocaulus is the small, shovel headed salamander thing. It's like a portable oxygen tank.
@@isakkilkki because you can suck oxygen out of it
This is an excellent guide phlinger, while I do some of these things unconsciously while playing ark, this is really something for some of the newer people who may not understand how to be efficient at ark and find some of the pacing slow and difficult.
Add a whip for those out of reach items that spilled over a bit, and you are a fast transfer beast!
Ok, for each cave the strat is:
Baryonyx rush most
Cave of the brute with thyla
Aquatic ones with a basilo (or icty/cactus broth + lazarus chowder rush, tbh I prefer icty)
And the 2 snow caves, one is pick the cactus broth and hope you can rush it with a ascendant pump
And the one you can use dinos is basically rushing with a deinonychus if possible unless you have a dino who can tank all the bears, yetis and wolfs
I’m not that good with caves but this is most of basics
Great video just wanted to add tbough, force feeding a baryonyx is the worst way to heal them, use the bary to kill groups of fish w the spin attack and watch as every time you do it they heal tremendous amounts of health in moments. It’s the killing and consuming that heals them. It’s 10x faster than trying to force feed them.
This is great! I've been playing ark for a bit on and off since 2017 and a lot of these tips I didn't even think about, thanks for a great video!
Also... the torch doesnt get put away when you access inventories (yours or creatures)
I've been playing this game 3 years and still learn things from you that make this game enjoyable. Thanks for what you do!
Does that work on organic Polly on abb?
The whole 'access while on you' is Sino only
And they're pretty beastly. They're like a much better dimorphodon, and I love a dimorphodon. Sinomacrops is just superior
Pro tip; Reload your shotgun in third person (don't have to let the animation finish, just be in 3rd when pressing R). It reloads 6x faster.
Added this to my Beach Bob Academy channel in my ARK cluster discord. Thank you this is a great video!
16:39 My best and worst memories of Ark. Because I took my favorite dino into a cave. 🤣
Dear new players, take it slow, death is a learning experience, and avoid anywhere that remotely looks scary.
I've beaten the island and never once thought to use a Perry's ability as anything but a guard dog. That trick to find thylas in the redwoods safely is ingenious. Thanks for the great videos!
100% Quality! All of it. Every last moment. I have used most.
Tip 1 get a thylo.
Tip 2 get a thylo.
Tip 3 get a thylo.
Started playing about a week ago. Holy crap this game is addicting.
And if your building, Castorides and Doed are a must
I always bulks elevated greenhouses. The water works if it's below the crops and makes everything look so much cleaner.
Using a Parasaur to find Thylas in the redwoods is the tip I needed to hear. I've been wanting to tame one on my current play through, but they're impossible to find until they jump on your face. Then your only option is to kill it and miss out on taming it or letting it eat you.
snow owl right click is nice aswell
Came for tips, stayed for serieses
Biting Dino more meat, slashing Dino more hide… Walking away with such a simple but good tip, priceless!
I didn't think Patton Oswald knew so much about Ark.
Get yourself an anky (metal, flint, oil) and doedicurius (stone) as soon as possible makes gathering large quantities of ores in combo with an Argy super easy.
I didn't knew only one of these tips. The shoulder pet weight reduction one!
On island, rag, Val, crystal, center, and gen 2, you don’t need to irrigate crops if they are outside. I’ve found that it rains enough to keep them watered.
Also, I love hearing someone praise moschops. They are my favorite dino and a must have early tame.
Add Scorched Earth to the list for crops (confirmed for large but not sure for medium crop plots as large holds 50% more water than the medium).
I call them chops
I really like Pachycephalosaurus as great early game tames. They have good survivability, their torpor attack is great, and they're easy to tame early on as they don't require veggies (i know equus don't technically require them, but berry taminig an equus is a super chore)
Quick tip for the Baryonyx, it’ll heal anytime you kill any kind of fish, coelacanth, sabertooth salmon and piranha are all included.
Bionic Barry and Battle Barack thank you! They're good boys and deserve nice things.
@@kathleenwest1463 they and yourself are very welcome! Happy to help fellow ark players out!
Souped up Barry is my favorite Dino, and the way they just dangle their little feeties when they swim ❤️
I have learned so so much from watching your videos. Almost everything in this video I have used and learned from watching your videos. My most recent use was the hyenadon trap. Very useful and now I have 3 decent level hyenadons. You are doing such a great service to the gaming community. Thank you and keep them coming!
Doing a fresh vanilla play through and your videos help out a lot after being gone for a couple of years! Keep it up my guy!
Playing the on Scorched Earth right now, the flying parasaur trick is indeed a good way to find phoenixes can confirm
Thanks for the Tips and Tricks. I feel like I learn something new in this game every time I play it.
I'm taking things slow though, I'm not in rush :D
Useful vid for sure!
Yeah, as far as caves go as long as you're going in slow and steady, they're not too much of a problem. the underwater ones are a pain regardless, but as long as you've got the numbers tame wise going in, you're probably going to be fine even in those. I still kinda like to cryopod a megatherium, but if it's a cave where there's platforming to do, i'd rather take a thyla or a baryonyx
i started playing abt 3 weeks ago and i must say your abc videos helped me out a ton!! this video is also amazing. appreciate you Phoo🙈
you can use the lasso to drag knocked out dinos comes in handy when ya knock a land dino out under water
Flying dinos are more tactical guerrilla tactics survivability. They don’t just stand there and tank hits. That’s what i like about pteranodons. Low stats, but can destroy high stat dinos, with tactical combat. But it depends on the skill of the player of course
Great video. Been playing ARK on enough for a year but still did not know most of these tips and tricks
Another awesome video Phlinger! All your vids are a great help to me!!! Keep up the great work, love all your Ark videos!!!
Also, BE FRIENDLY! maybe you need help taming certain dino's or you need stuff, being friendly helps a lot.
Bro it’s been so long since so watched you. You were the first ark RUclipsr I ever watched it with s4
Quick tip for doing caves... mouth your torch onto your tames saddle... that way you have light and a free hand. Ive been playing for 4 years but only founf that out by accident last week
Thank you for this video mate was a huge help for me love what you do and love your videos
Longtime watcher, so most I knew from your other videos; however, the parry on an argy trick I had never seen. Pretty cool.
Awesome video! For someone who is new to ark I found this video very helpful. Will there be a "for science " series??
Alot of caves are also prime material farming locations, quite often I'll go in with one or two farming dinos crowd.Have them farm up mats and then leave
I just love watching your ark videos as I play along on ark some of the tips have been so useful
One other thing I’ve noticed about Baryonyx is that they regen a ton of health just by killing fish-even without eating the meat. Tried it with harvesting turned off and still works. Spin attack counts too. (Using PS5 in case that matters)
Thank you for the tips, I’m just getting back into this game after a 5 year break. I’ll go check out some of your taming pens
I never used the ramp into the taming pen, i just relied on fast building one before it could get out. That looks much easier.
I did not know about the Parasaur being able to find the phoenix's spawn locations, very cool.
Thank you verry much. I just put my spare armour and my spare munition into my sholder pet. And the trick with the argy and the Parasaur was also new for me. Really good video. You are the best. Greetings from Germany. 👋
Something i never see people do is putting torches on the saddle itself so you have a light source on your dino without having to equip it in hand.
Just what I needed for my play-through. Thank you! Uploading content of it if y’all wanna watch.
My tips: go ahead and tame a low level creature if that's all you can find. Some creatures are worth hunting, but some are just tools and it's better to have a lame one than to not have one at all
2: pick up 3 to 10 Dilos early on as caravan guards.
Or just go to gen 2 an buy 30k in under 15 mins
If you're playing story mode like he likes to do (beating maps in order) that doesn't exactly work out
Lol okay bro just saying I know all the trick to this game lol just need gen 1 alpha on official an I've finished the all bosses
Holy hell, I've been playing off and on since beta release and I just learned about shoulder pet weight reduction and the parasaur target feature. 👍
Good Morning Phlinger and Phamily!
Smeghead the Sabertooth...I love a good Red Dwarf reference!
a video on torpidity. like one that explains the best damage to torp ratio when trying to knock out those fragile tames to what does the cave loot guns to do torp when you shoot darts. that would be my thought. you have touched on it a few times in the years we have been watching ya
Thank you phlinger really appreciate the tips been playing for a few years and still didn't know about the bary lol
Love the videos man you've been my go to guide for ark for longest time now. Thank you!!!
Always bring sleeping bags into caves as checkpoints
