20:29 Love the inverted flight, bet the pax loved that!
He even went inverted on the runway. Now that's hard to do.
one shot at 25:40...
Well, if you were directly above him, how could you see him?
Out of all my channel subscriptions. These videos are the ones I look forward to the most.
For sure
Thanks
Weaving through the clouds slowing down and making logical decisions is the experience shining through. PNG is not an environment for risk takers or short cuts when flying. Loved the double inverted bits
Just proves that manual control is essential. Knowing the aircraft is critical. Well done Ryan.😊
Unbelievable, gate agent, ticketing agent, cargo, maintenance, and PILOTIN’, he is a major airline himself.
Woohoo MAX POWER!
Greased it. Your explanations are outstanding!
Such a great start and the view!
GREAT flight Captain. Those Kodiak's are really the prefect work horse for your environment! !! !!!
Great flight Ryan - very knowledgeable!
Thank you
Ryan you do great videos
Know exactly what you’re doing- flew mostly Fokker jets plus the infamous Dash 7 for their PNG National flag carrier there for a total of 20 years. I’m sure you know this tip but.. I used it all the time ( this from a level flight situation) …”am I going to make it over that ridge line in the distance ??.. “ answer.. if you are gradually seeing more of the country beyond the ridge-yes, carry on you’ll clear it-if less- no you won’t - quite obvious I know but I was bemused by how many new-to-PNG pilots thought it was a pearl of great secret wisdom I giving them lol. Great videos- a lot of editing and other work to produce each one I’m sure. Great work.
nice flight! thx Ryan
Ha! Love the little funny clips and the inverted camera view
Great video! I’m watching as I’m flying from LAX to LAS on a domestic commercial air carrier. I wish I was on board with you. The view is much better in your seat. Greetings from in between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
I watch the videos every Sunday. I finally subscribed. I like the upside down humor in this one (I guess it was intended). Thanks Ryan.
Welcome. just missed it in editing
@@MissionaryBushPilot You should do it more often. Keeps everyone on their toes. I got a chuckle.
@@MissionaryBushPilot giving us the authentic southern hemisphere experience!
For a couple of seconds, I thought I had done something to cause that on my PC.
Thank you, Ryan. Stay safe.
Amazing, thank you! Always enjoyable 👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Ryan,
Interesting flight to Wewak , brings back memories of ducking & weaving amongst the clouds. You where very informative, thanks for another great video. Stay safe my friend.
20:28 Whoa, suddenly I'm seeing things as they truly are !!
Ryan you are absolutely right it’s always good to know and understand the capabilities of your Aircraft, great video as always, thanks mate
Cool! Thanks for the max performance takeoff. 🙂
Excellent flight again Ryan! I always look forward to your flights. Takes me back to PNG again. Keep it up!
Great seeing you doing the max takeoff. The flights are so scenic, brings back many fond memories……thanks Ryan regards…..Roger
Just received your book and went cover to back! It is a great addition to your RUclips videos giving a more indepth look at the runways and communities you service. Having been in the Peace Corps 1965-67 in Borneo, Sabah, stationed 18 miles out in the jungle I can relate to these remote areas. Absolutely a GREAT book!
Ryan you should be flying major airline.
I was impressed the first time you went inverted and amazed when you went inverted on the ground !
I must have missed those clips
@@MissionaryBushPilot lol......I was thinking you should have had your passengers hold their arms up to make them look like they were hanging upside down.
@@ted2704 🤣 That would have me rolling on the floor!
Also known as weightless Wednesday (in the HEMS rotor world 😅)
Good morning from Minnesota USA! Great episode!
Enjoyed the walk through of issues, flying and operations.
Haven't flown in quite some time (raising a family got in the way), but now retired and will make an attempt to get back in the left seat again. Really look forward to your videos and got my son hooked so hopefully this might give him an urge to get up. Thanks for sharing how the "off the grid" people live. Stay safe and may God keep flying with you!
Very Nice, Thank you once again. Going to check out the link WW2 Video. God Bless!
I like how Ryan is just calculating the ticket prices while flying like a bus driver would do at the bus stop. 😄
Single Pilot Cockpit, fighting alone all at once with complex aircraft, clouds, terrain, ATC, loading, ticket service ... True professional!
Thanks
Great video, as usual from you 😊.
Thanks and God bless you and your family.
Thanks.....
Maybe I missed it, but I always approach climbing mountain ridges at a 45 degree angle. Makes it way easier to bale if things go wrong.
Fantastic video very educational and engaging look forward to seeing more
That’s the best simulator set up I’ve seen.
Pretty expensive too
Really enjoy your vids. The Upside down part was kind of freaky. Keep up the great work. It is much appreciated.
I love your channel man. I am learning so much from you. Thanks man! I am working on the CFI rating now! With your videos, I am sure to be a better pilot overall!
great to hear
Enjoyed the flight. I almost always learn something new from your videos. 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another greased landing. Ryan makes the difficult look easy on all his flights.
Thank you Ryan. I look forward to sunday's. :-)
When ATC says “watch terminated” is that the same as “ATC service terminated”?
The focus and seriousness you maintain while flying… it’s impressive… thanks for sharing and some beautiful video as well.
Thanks a lot!
Ryan, just curious if you know for what reasons some of the souls onboard fly to that location? I know that’s cheap but wouldn’t think they could afford that very often without a very good purpose. Heck I couldn’t afford it myself here in the states.
Really nice vid. I was also in Papua for EBC but sadly I never flew with NTM.
I understand that flying in PNG can be challenging, how often are there aircraft mishaps, CFIT?
Hi Ryan, I've been following your channel for a little while and really enjoy your content, it's opened my eyes to a new part of the world, so thank you! I also replicate your flights in MSFS flight sim as I'm sure many others do. This one is REALLY tricky! The performance is off a little I think, from the real aircraft. I made it over the mountain on 3rd attempt with inches to spare. Followed by a stall and crash. I'll keep trying but I won't give up my day job. 🤣
Yeah the flight sims don't ever get the performance of the planes right
Awesome flight Ryan!! Loved that Max performance TO!! That Kodiak is sure a sweet airplane. Have you ever flown a Kodiak on anphibis?
No I've never flown a plane on floats. Looks like a fun experience though
@@MissionaryBushPilot
Yes I was thinking about how the performance is affected on floats like it is on all aircraft. The Kodiak is an excellent aircraft either way in my humble opinion 😊
A super interesting flight trying to to out-climb the climb rate of the granite, Ryan! I wonder what angle of bank is required to achieve a Kodiak max-rate turn under yellow temp power settings?! Probably close to 90 degrees? Not done with fare paying passengers on board, I might add! I used to always enjoy CPL max performance takeoffs and Vx climbouts in the little Cherokee 140 bug-smashers, barely climbing like an elevator! Too long ago now... Cheers, David
Inverted flight @20:25
Hi Ryan! awesome video, i have a question, why you don´t retract the flaps on the climb to reduce drag?, i think if you clean the airfold you will gain more altitude in minor distance
Beautiful airplane!! Your passengers must be accustomed to high descent rates , 850 -900 would cause some aches for my passengers. Great job!
👍👍👍
Sporty Ryan ;-)
An absolutely great video! Love how you talk us through everything that you are dealing with. We can learn a lot. Keep up the good work.
Hello Ryan. Could you improve your CG (more to the center) if you move your passengers to the forward seats? Have a Safe Flight. ✋🏻
He said why he wanted the CG toward the rear - to help the nose get off the ground easier.
I could, but I wanted more of an aft CG so the weight is off the nose wheel in the tall grass. It also helps with rotate on sloped runways to have an aft CG
Looks like you got a good bird it will get you over the hump
Kids, there are three ways to do things, the right way, the wrong way, and the Max Power way.
Dad, isn’t that just the wrong way?
Yes, but FASTER.
plenty of runway left
Hey Ryan, great video as always ! I was just wondering why you're climbing at Vx instead of Vy ? Since it takes you a few minutes to clear the obstacle would'nt be better to climb at Vy ? thanks in advance for your explanation. Fly safe !
Good question. The reason it because I was trying to fly in a straight line and clear the ridge. So Vx gets you the most altitude in the shortest distance, that's why I chose to go with Vx
Finding a weight and balance discrepancy after you've already taken off. 😐😅🤣
Thanks for talking through your thinking. Do you have an instrument rating??
Yes I do have an instrument rating
Hi
Do you have libereis for MSFS2020?
I am wondering what sort of helicopters jobs do compared to the fix wing
We fly helicopters to locations that it just isn't feasible to make a runway due to space or how long it would take to make
@@MissionaryBushPilot what helicopters are you guys using Robinson heli's i would be guessing
I'm not sure, but I don't think that Kodiak is rated for aerobatics.
is a difference of VFR minimums for VFR only and IFR rated pilots?
20:29 Oops! Editing fail
Nope, pure skill!
i can't find the airstrip in msfs. does anybody know the icao code?
Notwithstanding the app's programming, I am very uneasy that there is no cross-checking of weight accuracy when kg and lb are used together! As an ex-C130 pilot, I had an issue in a combat zone where urgency was needed, the load was manifested in lbs but actually in kgs therefore it was almost 2.5 times as heavy. Fortunately, it was not a max weight performance take-off but the aircraft's performance was not what was expected but the C130 coped. At our destination, we had the load check weighed and it was confirmed kg and not lb.
you would think it would be a problem, but kg and lbs are just a number. We weigh everything in kg, so when we put it it, it's automatically kg. When we fuel, we have an app that convers our lbs to liters. It's really not that hard and in 9 years, we have never made the mistake of putting someones weight in lbs when it was supposed to be kg.
22:18 Hi Ryan,
That bombing run; was it in B24's??. I think while researching I came across such an inland approach probably from Morseby?. In fact they might have started from QLD and refuelled/topped up in Morseby?.. I tried it in I think P3D flight Sim at the time. It was doable but quite exciting. 🙃😁

@@MissionaryBushPilot Thanks Ryan, B29's ? I forget.An amazing achieve
ment. 💚

$300 for a single ticket one way for a hundred miles seem alot, how much does a person earn there?
So that"s 20% upside down then ?
I have a job, you sir have a career.
How does temp and density affect you at that altitude , performance wise ?
I really only feel DA in the warm afternoons in the mountains higher than 5000'.
What is the ticket price?
$300
65 pounds each? Tiny people! Did you mean kilos maybe?
meant kilos
Does the Kodiak have a Turn & Bank Indicator or is it "seat of the pants"?
The bank indicator is on the heading indicator. it's a little magenta line that comes out and shows you when you are in a standard rate turn
:-)
You always make me nervous when you confuse pounds with kilograms...
It's just a number put in an iPad, designations mean nothing
No need to start pulling stunts for youtube ... Or are you planning to become a Kodiak sales person at Daher? ;)
I wouldn't go as far as saying a max performance takeoff and climb is a stunt.
$300 for a one way ticket is a bit steep for these people particularly considering their median income is around $1200…
Believe me, I know. it costs $950/hr to operate our Kodiak here in PNG, so it's not cheap for us either.
Way to honor war veterans dude.
Lame AF.................you couldn't even take the time to provide basic details.
I don't know the basic details....but you can watch this short video about some details ruclips.net/video/alEUtlqx5xo/видео.html
Stop missioning innocent people. Just leave them alone!
What's the price of a ticket, from those two places?
All the best

It said somewhere in the video, I think it was around $300
