    I recently had a cable break in a gym using this exercise with an added olympic bar mass like that. Unfortunately I got my little finger between the handle bar and the floor during the impact and broke it two places. I also smashed my head into the floor. I do not think it is safe to do this. If the cable is worn, the one adding the most mass on the machine will become the more likely one to break the wire..

    These are cable crunches and also one of my favorite abs builders. In gymnastics I did hanging knee raises with a dumbbell between my knees and in wrestling discovered the machine crunch and these cable crunches. Great way to build muscle to take punches. I definitely recommend them.

    Hay Scott, as I was watching this cool video, I realized that for folk who work out at home, & who use those setups that use surgical tubing/exercise tubing that fasten to a door, they too can perform this exercise, & just need to add more tubes to increase the weight. Keep up the great work.

    Great video, always inspired by your techniques. Sometimes I do abs at home, could I utilize the same principle of this exercise by using resistance bands tied from the ceiling? I assume it won't be as resistive as that 45Ib plate you used, but would it be adequately close to a low rep, high weight ab workout? Thanks!

  • @paullasmith4975
    @paullasmith4975 Год назад

    I sometimes use a bridal pull down for my final reps. A rubber coated bar that I can hold with my teeth. Has a chain on both ends that can attach to a 45 pound free weight. Arching my back like you show adds stress to my spinal cord so I arch cat style. 🙂

    Good video. I like it because I see see on you what muscles are being engaged. I just found this vid on your website. I have to critique that with the added weight your back did not go into the curve as much as without the plate. Just saying because you stressed how important it is to get into that low back curve. The curve is yin to the pulls yang, creating balance in the movement. Great video.

    I can answer this question, & its actually a good question. Different things we do can effect our somatic nervous system in different ways, the somatic nervous system is part of our peripheral nervous system, which is divided into the autonomic & somatic, the later which is responsible for coordinating the body movements, and also for receiving external stimuli, but sometimes external stimuli such as eating, sex, exercise, etc can have unexpected results such as a hard on during exercise.
