    The Behringer Xenyx X1204USB is a fantastic mixing board for podcasting, Internet radio, and much more. In this video I will unbox a brand new X1204USB and compare it's main features to it's closest sibling - the Behringer Xenyx 1204USB. For a mere $30 difference in price you really want to step up to the X1204USB. The extra features justify the price difference. I'll tell you why.
    There is a lot of great info on the specs as well as reviews on each soundboard on Amazon. Check the links below to read more:

    Great video. i use the Behringer Xenyx 802 USB and want to upgrade.
    Just stumbled on your channel. I also use a DBX 266xs compressor/Gate. I like the fact that this mixer has the compressor built in. I also like the slides as opposed to the knobs.
    On another note, I just discovered an awesome and inexpensive mic for podcasting. The same mic used by professionals such as John Davidson, Crystal Gale, Jethro Tull and I even recently saw Jimmy Buffet using one in a concert. It is the Shure SM63 and you can pick them up on Ebay new for around $130.00. They sound as good as my Electro Voice RE20 and RE-27. I put my much more expensive Electro voice mics away and use the Shure now. The shure is used as a hand held interview mic and has virtually zero handling noise but, doubles as an excellent studio mic.

    Great video. I just got this board for our new podcast, but have never sound-engineered anything before! Do you have tutorial videos sharing your experience as a sound engineer? Or are there tutorials out there that you recommend? I hope you do, because your on-air persona is exactly what grabs and holds my attention. Thanks!

      I appreciate the kind words. I haven't made any tutorial videos. I'd like to, but unfortunately they're pretty low on the priority list. Hopefully someday. I'm sure you'll find tons of good tutorials that'll be helpful :)

    Great Video..I am new to podcasting and using the Behringer x1202fx...bought it used for $75 bucks? Now you're making me want to go get a x1204. Just watched your Round table...nice. so do you just shoot each show on the fly? You don't do any post production? Thanks! Mark

      Hi Mark. Thanks for watching and commenting. Sorry for the delay in response, you caught us in the middle of a move. Setting up the new studio now! I'm not sure that I'm tracking with the question (I'm tired) - the videos that we post that are excerpts from the full-length audio podcasts are edited in Final Cut Pro X. We add the lower 3rd, etc. and apply a little color correction in post. I do edit for quickness - so deciding on and editing down quick clips is actually the hardest part - and doesn't always turn out as planned. I hope that is the answer you were looking for. If not let me know, and I'll answer a different one. Ha! Thanks again, Michael

      ***** I have one more question that I hope you can answer. I have not been able to use this mixer for skype. Is it possible to be able to use the mic and have sound coming in via the usb at the same time? I have tried every button haven't been able to get it to work.

    • @Gctnetwork
      @Gctnetwork  10 лет назад

      What are you wanting to record to? I record to my desktop and use a laptop for Skype coming in to channel 5/6 or 7/8 with the audio from Aux 2 out (this is called a Mix/Minus) to the Skype machine so the Skype caller can hear the other mics. It will not, however, send system sounds, i.e. any sound on my desktop. I use an iPad with a sound cart app to play audio clips. The iPad goes into channel 7/8 and the Skype machine can hear that. Someday I'll do a video on my set-up :)

    I'm on my second X1204USB. The first one had a horrible high-pitched tone that I couldn't track down so back it went. The second one arrived and although it was obviously used, I decided to keep it.
    I did notice a difference in the color scheme of the lights. The first one have blue lighting while the second one has orange lighting. I have no idea which one is the newer model but I prefer the orange lights as they are much easier to see versus the fuzzy glare from the blue lamps. In any event it's a 'good enough' board for my humble podcasting setup.

    Great video it help me decide to actually get one for my podcast. But I have been running into a lot clipping with recording. We are a four men podcast (obviously we use four mics) at the end of the video you mentioned a compressor I've been researching but I can't figure out if this board is compatible with one. Do you know if this board can handle any compressor? Here is a link to one I have been thinking of getting. Again thanks for the video and any info will greatly appreciated.

    I just wondered if you could help me with a problem I have with my new Xenyx 1202. I keep getting a high pitched 'beep' when recording and playing back. I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of it. I am totally new to recording. Just in case it's relevant I'm recording via a condenser microphone. Your video is excellent, thank you for sharing it with us.

    Hi there great video! I just wanted to ask, I am film student majoring directing, but I have a major interest in sound design. Will this be a good asset for that? I've bought it, and waiting for it to arrive. I want to know, will it be good to use with my H4N and my shotgun mic to control levels of the audio? Is that possible? Creating your own sound effects with this, is that a good idea? Or is this too much? I don't want to do podcasts, or anything of the sort this is mainly focused on film, and sound effects/sound design/foley.
    My second main question would be what kind of cables would I need? I got the xlr female to male, a 3.5 to 6.2 the usb cable, but I mean say if I don't want to do it through the computer for any reason, can I do it directly from the H4N? and is there any other way? Would really appreciate knowing I've checked the internet hasn't helped much!
    Really would appreciate a response would mean a lot.
    Thanks,
    Don.

    • @ProfessorMichaelT
      @ProfessorMichaelT 8 лет назад +1

      No. This board wouldn't be any use. The recorder and a DAW (digital audio workstation) is all you'll need to start creating and editing foley.

    • @divinedonnie6132
      @divinedonnie6132 8 лет назад

      Thanks for your response Michael, are you able to recommend me a DAW that would be good for that? Will also be good for sound design creating sound effects? Thanks again.

    • @ProfessorMichaelT
      @ProfessorMichaelT 8 лет назад

      Divine Donnie I'm sorry for the delay in response. If you have no experience working with a DAW you should go the free route. Namely, the open source Audacity (or the built-in Garageband if you are on a Mac). It is a powerful little DAW that will help you to become acquainted with working with audio files. Once you get the hang of editing you can move on to one of the professional DAWs.

    Awesome video. Thanks so much for posting. I'm just starting up a podcast with three hosts, and this pretty much talked me into the purchase. Being that I'm new, is there any chance you might have a video showing how to set up such a rig for three hosts? I have a macbook and plan to use garage band for recording while also in hopes of having a live broadcast at some point. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

    • @Gctnetwork
      @Gctnetwork  10 лет назад

      Wonderful! I'm glad it helped :)
      I don't have a video explaining actual broadcasting/podcasting set-up. I hope to in the near future. But in the meantime I use Nicecast by Rogue Amoeba (www.rogueamoeba.com/nicecast/) to broadcast live to ShoutCAST servers. It also archives the recording at a high bit-rate. I actually use that to record the podcasts, then import into Garageband to edit. Nicecast is great because of the plugins; you can capture audio from specific apps, or the entire system audio. I've used this set-up for years, and plan to continue :)
      Hope that helps a little.

      I was using a Zoom H2n for a while, but started to use a sound board and needed a mixer to do it properly. ***** if that Alesis has USB you should be able to get a USB adapter for the iPad and record from the mixer while on the go. Pretty epic mobile recording solution!

      I got it to work, but they do not record on their own track, so it is all on 1 track, or 2 with a merge at the end. My issue now is that I seem to have a tiny bit of reverb, even though the FX are turned all the way down I cannot seem to get it to just record without it. We are doing a podcast and not making music so its not a nice sound.
