Lemme know if you wanna see more of these and spare a like if you could, especially since this is a late night upload which the algorithm normally doesn't like. 🙏

Also denying grabs. I can do it on read but idk how pros always tech grabs . My biggest downfall.. if u want that is! Otherwise appreciate the content
I skipped out on the 3D era of MK, so I really didn't have any attachment to those characters going into MK1. I think the reboot has been mostly successful in reinventing them and making me appreciate their inclusion. Havik, in particular, has such cool, unique animations that he's a real standout among the entire roster.
he was definitely that in Deception and Armageddon too, he had taunts to break his neck in those games and a lot of weird moves beside that like breaking his legs to shoot a fireball. he's probably one of the most faithful characters to the ideas in the move set of his original incarnation imo

Big buttons and armor, Havik does seem like a character I might also enjoy because of those traits. I also like the idea of running the Sub-Zero kameo to help his otherwise poor defense. Alongside the ice armor and freeze combos, he'll even supplement Havik's high health by +50! :3
Havik is probably my new favorite fighting game character rn, just the idea of a guy who beats you with his own limbs is awesome, and he looks really fun to play. (Also I really like how you slow down the footage when demonstrating combos, it really helps explain them and I wish more youtubers did this)
I was waiting for this guide! Been playing him since release and ironed out the flaws he has to something fun and workable. Cyrax is easily my favorite kameo with him though I haven't tried Sub yet. The biggest damage combo I've done so far is about 50% two meters. The combo is: Neoplasm, F4, Dash(full or micro), Neoplasm, B22, EX- Bloodbath, Cyrax Kameo, Neck Snap, Helping Hand, J24
Havik seems "off" at first, especially with that slow arm rip and no traditional reversal, but once you accept that he's playing his own game outside of the norm and you adapt accordingly, his strengths really shine. He takes some adjustments, but he's worth it. He really is the weird boy of the game, and as a day one Havik fan from Deception, I wouldn't have it any other way.
He's not playing his own game. He's just good at basic footsies. That is the definition of "basic bitch." I was hoping he'd be something special, like a freak pick. He's really just a guy, though.
GUYS! if you tap block just before 2 in the b2 string, the range of the attack is NOTICEABLY further, and the whiff punish potential is greater. think of the input as b~block~2. this makes certain BNBs much easier IE: b22~bf1, b22~bf2MB(hold b) for a nice unblockable launch setup and 46% dmg. I like to do unblockable launch, dash, db1, b22~db4MB
Yes, can’t wait to watch all these guides! Havik actually seems fairly straightforward. Given his weirdness I figured he wouldn’t be a good beginner character, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
I've been playing Havik almost exclusively for the last week or so and he's so fun. It took me 2 or so days of losing almost every match, but once you make him work he works. There's a lot of tech in this vid I hadn't even considered and that's awesome!
Appreciate this guide bro! Your vids have been a god send. I've decided to main Havik in this game and I'm having a ball with him honestly. He's a weird juggernaut boy and I love his kit.
I got this game kinda late, heard most people hate Havok, kinda liked how bizarre he was so I picked him up and now its seeming like hes much better than most.
Been using Havik & Mileena exclusively the past couple weeks. Havik took me a lot longer to understand. I thought he was pretty bad at first but now understanding him more. He’s very good, I still don’t think he’s as broke as upper characters. But definitely amazing, he can be a struggle character though. He’s very weird to play & I think takes more work than most characters in the game. I love what they’ve done with his gameplay. Rip backwards knee break projectile & corpse taunt (I know his unblockable is called that but it’s not the actual taunt, it’s the neck break taunt) though. Sad those aren’t in his kit from Deception. Very happy with the representation of the 3D characters. Since I grew up on those games & glad nobody is really weak in this game per say. I think they did a good job bringing back the 3D characters, though I miss Havik’s very calm & soothing voice. I wish they kept that instead of just making him having a generic scream like voice because he’s an anarchist. I preferred his more creepy, calm & calculated voice over this. But love his gameplay! I really hope they give us his Deception look someday.
Ive been playing havik day one and the kameo ive paired him up with is kung lao and its only for the low hat. It helps his zoning as you can summon low hat after his high projectile and they both hit at the same time, meaning the opponent cant duck it anymore. Low hat is also great in his pressure since he his strings tend to end in overheads. Essentially a 50/50 thats guaranteed plus frames even if they block correctly. Not to mention that in the corner, he can do armor breaking set ups with the low hat. The only thing is that kung lao isn't great for helping him get bigger combos, but i find low hat to be worth it.
Cyrax helps in anti zoning. He goves you combos off your backthrow. For a bar of meter also gives a combo on forward throw. His spin attack does not just give combo potential but gives insane pressure also. For example, string into Haviks torso spin... super unsafe right? Not with cyrax kameo up. Safe pressure that chips for near 8%. Not trying to say cyrax is better than another kameo, just saying his kameo provides a lot more than just combo damage.
I definitely see the strength of cyrax. There's a reason why people say he's one of the strongest. I just enjoy the play style kung lao gives havik. It allows him to play in a very different way, one that's focused on always having plus frames in most situations. And low hat had ridiculously fast cooldown. You're almost always guaranteed to have low hat at the ready
i personally run stryker kameo with havik as it gives a very nice threat of low as so many of his strings have overheads. and the low also gives you enough advantage to set BF1 which is very nice for helping with armor and stuff. or setting the EX to catch em off guard. grenades dont help you on the combo side as much as other options but i consider that a fair trade. also just having the cop working with the anarchist is funny to me
Huge HAVIK fan since I played deception on the GameCube as a kid. Love playing as him now, love his weird timing and overall chaotic nature he brings to the game Edit: frost is a good kameo imo for HAVIK :p
I finally finished the story mode yesterday. I kinda see why they had him locked tbht lol. Besides that, I started labbing him and trying to find set ups. Thank you for your aid as always. May the law of entropy continue to korrupt us all
Havik main here, I got some tips. 1 1 arm rip combo is a GREAT mixup. Also, after you string your combo with the close projectile, use Darrius to reset the combo mid air (; If you are quick enough, you can get an arm rip when opponent is mid air.
Important addition, Cyrax can up copter the opponent during bloodbath. The timing is a bit tight but you can get a full air string follow up for quite a bit more damage. Also scorpion can create some pretty nasty combos for him if you’re willing to lab them.
Wow man. I like trueunderdawg too, but I haven’t even started this yet and I just know it’s gonna be so much more in depth and informative. He didn’t even say anything about the arm having armor. He was like this slow move and you get one hit of armor this move sucks lol.
I really miss a little bit more nuanced 1 hour guides 😅 But that’s me. Thanks for great insight, really had trouble fighting against him, this video helps to understand and counter the character. 😊
Havik feels really weak if you try to play the game the same way as the other characters, but has some pretty funky sauce. He truly is the weirdo archetype of this roster. Probably the first weirdo character I can think of in an NRS game.
@@rooflemonger If you can figure him out he has the frame data of a top tier. He’s just not a big damage or combo character unless you lab out a kameo set up. Also if you complete 112 or f122 they knock the opponent incredibly far away, and depending on the opponent you can put the opponent far enough they can zone you out. Fought a Kitana the other day that did nothing but throw fans at me lol. Following up on bf1 pop up is not easy compared to other character’s pop ups. Bf2 whiffs in juggles (yes I finally figured out to hold back and it’s still dropping) frustratingly often, and db4 drops either completely or before the last hit. He’s just pretty rough to get the hang of but I can see him shining in the hands of a specialist, but he’s definitely a character that you have to dedicate to. Most characters have skills you can transfer as you find certain strings or specials that give clear combo routes. Havik you kinda have to have labbed it out ahead of time. Frustrating when I can play any other character and kameo-less hit 30-40%, then able to save my kameo for utility. I probably just don’t jive with the playstyle.
@@rooflemonger Apologies for the essay but it’s just a few of my frustrations stemming from long hours in the lab, going into kombat league, and feeling like I have to work so much harder than if I just played Baraka.
I love the big tips and tricks videos but on the other hand more short form videos are fantastic as well. More videos for more character basics and help = more better… sometimes… still love those big tips and tricks videos though
I've been loving what I've played of havik, but I still struggle with calling out the ambush kameo at the right time so I've yet to explore the cyrex copter combos, but it's something I'll definitely be learning now
@@rooflemongeri agree he is way stronger than most give him credit for. The weaknesses that he has... if they buffed those areas he would be easily overpowered then. Really the only matchup that has felt desperate for me is Havik vs Baraka. Baraka plays at a very similar distance and his moves just seem to beat havik most of the time in neutral. My guess is that his armblades probably dont have a hitbox... i dont know for sure.
@@rooflemongerI think he’s just missing tweaks to his base kit to give him an edge, a lot of his tools that could be considered good are fairly easy to negate once u lab him. I’d say he only gets really good when paired w the right kameos, and even then that can be said for any character
10:18 Disagree about using meter primarily for projectiles. Ideally you’re using that meter mostly on ex roll for those big damage sequences, or EX arm rip here and there to catch someone with that 22% damage counter attack when they get a little too comfortable pressing you.
I’m a havik main and for my kameo i use tremor. it’s good cus i can use metallic when they are far away and use neoplasm and his rock throw and they would either block low and get hit from above and can start a combo or block high and get knocked down and gives me a chance to rush and add pressure between me and who i’m fighting and gets me an upper hand to keep them down which is good for him. and i can use his aftershock to start air combos or help me with ground combos. His Crystaline I just use to help me when i get low on health and to help me keep distance
Hey Rooflemonger, will you be making any videos on how to counter specific characters? I'm watching this video not because I want to play Havik, but because he gives me more trouble than any other opponent I face online. I just struggle very much with understanding when it is my turn against him. I definitely have picked up on some of what he's doing after watching this video, but I really think videos specifically focused on punishing certain characters would be awesome to see!
Haviks my first main and even tho I've played other people when kompleting story mode, he doesn't feel weird to play. He does have less kombo routes by himself tho, especially in comparison to fighters like Smoke, Baraka, Mileena, Johnny Cage and Kenshi.
I’ve been a Havik main since early access release, and I feel like they did him perfectly. Any weakness he has a Kameo can fix imo. The only real weakness is his lack of a fast mid but I think that would be too much
@@rooflemonger Oh for sure! I’m used to MK11 fast mids but I learned to adapt. His F4 has deceptively good range and learning to back dash then using B2,2 is where it’s at!
@11:55 "There's almost no way you could stop this armor from going off" Reiko throwing star projectiles break it because they're considered many projectiles in one
Let me ask the chaos realmers. I've been playing around with Havik/Lao. In addition to a safe low to mix with his plentiful safe overheads, Lao teleport allows Havik to cancel the 4th hit of his torso spin. This immediately puts him in front of the opponent where he has advantage. So, before, you'd do spin but lose out on oki. Now, you get way better oki off of it. I don't know what buttons to push though. His Back 2 is his best mid, but it's too slow. I was thinking Back 22 into Lao Hat is safe pressure on block, +2, then I could start my 1-1 stagger game. Unfortunately, wake-up mash beats it. I could start with 1-1, but it can be duck punished. Havik's lows don't really impress me in close combat situations, but maybe F4? It's 3 frames faster than Back 2 and I can get a full conversion off it if it hits. Down Back 1 works on most characters (especially since people don't use kameo reversals on wake-up yet), but I don't know if I should be doing it every time. Maybe so. Maybe Back Forward 3, but I always assumed the animation for that projectile is too slow for close oki situations. But I might be missing something, so thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.
I'm not super advanced with him, or the game in general. But often I just db1 a few times (even meter burn it sometimes) to get them to stop mashing or reversals on wakeup. Then I'll start going for 11 / b22 shenanigans. And if they start ducking 11 I just do db1 again. Basically I just throw rock a lot.
A tuber that I watched back in the day would mention that if you have the potential to get beaten by wake up Mash, just take a step back and continue pressure because the moment that you're taking a step back they will be wiffing their Mash
@coltonlavely4162 @Acusumano25 Good advice from both of you. I think DB1 to conditioning is the play. I also think step back or repositioning every now and then is a good idea, especially since Havik has the range to do that. Doing a back dash into DB1 to mess with their timing seems like a good idea. The only issue is that sometimes Lao puts you in the corner. This can be circumvented. With experience I'll know how far I can go before Lao does that. In the meantime, if I have the bar I'll just meter burn DB1 or jump to get out of the corner. Thank you, both!
Just to add to the db4 move, the ex db4 is a mid the normal version is a high , so you can do things like b22 throw if they like to duck the throw then you know you can do b22 ex db4
"Hey, who's this Havik guy?" "Ah. He's the lord of chaos. His fighting style centers on ripping his own head and limbs off and breaking his own bones for the lulz." "Whoa sweet! Sounds weird! How does the play?" "Good footsies."
i have been experimenting with Frost and Havik, she's definitely a lot worse than sub zero tbh but i just like her more as a character and all the little deadly alliance references in her move set
Fair warning, the "bully" move is 59 frames startup. This is enough for some characters to do their fastest hit confirm strings, see what happens, and block it. You need to learn some options to cover this as well. It also has a juicy recovery on top, letting them fully combo it easily after evading it if you do it in the midrange.
@@rooflemonger Might not be the correct terminology, I dunno. What I mean is with just a little bit of space and walking back, it can be easy to bait and punish.
@@rooflemonger sure but u can’t combo from a sweep. You can with this move. Also it can be sorta staggered with the double low it offers. I main havik and the low is a pretty valuable tool when I use him. Not his best string but definitely has its uses
Kano is good balance between Cyrax and Sub. Good neutral, chip, pressure and damage. Sub has better neutral and damage, Cyrax has better pressure and chip, but Kano is best of two worlds. No defence tho, pure offence.
Feel like u missed out on sareena synergy with havik. Forward r1 fixes his zoning Back r1 let’s him get high damage She has a reversal as well And her setup with haviks unblockable is nasty not allowing them to break.
hey roofle did you see the reddit post about player 1 advantage in this game? what are your thoughts? do you think it would be interesting for you to look into it / make a video about it?
Havik is one of my mains and his biggest problem is he gets combo scaled bad..they need to fix that..and that unblockable does not need to be 2 bars..I see why they made it that but with his shortcomings it doesn't make him too strong..hopefully they buff some of that but I worry where he just won the last tournament

That grab low string is as gonna connect everytime
I know this is a tall ask, Roof, but these are great and can you please do Kenshi or Smoke next. I beg 🙏
more in time is all I can say
I'll keep my eyes open. Thank you for your videos, you're doing God's work
I doubt it will be for a while since she isn’t the popular, but I will be very excited for ashrah guide
more in time
I've been loving what I've played of havik, but I still struggle with calling out the ambush kameo at the right time so I've yet to explore the cyrex copter combos, but it's something I'll definitely be learning now
Havik is definitely a weird character, feel like he’s lacking a little but it’s so satisfying to win with him
Legitimately? I think he's one of the better characters in the game. There's so much upside to him
Couldn’t agree more. Feels like he dosent really have a “game plan” or obvious go to strategy
@@BozClawtHis obvious go to strategy is dumping meter into the unblockable neck break set-up to get 40-50% for free every time.
10:18
Disagree about using meter primarily for projectiles.
Recap: if you want to destroy the enemy with random bullsh*t,havik is your man
Hey Rooflemonger, will you be making any videos on how to counter specific characters? I'm watching this video not because I want to play Havik, but because he gives me more trouble than any other opponent I face online. I just struggle very much with understanding when it is my turn against him. I definitely have picked up on some of what he's doing after watching this video, but I really think videos specifically focused on punishing certain characters would be awesome to see!
if someone winds up being a clear-cut villain in the next week or so, then I will make a video on how to counter them
Haviks my first main and even tho I've played other people when kompleting story mode, he doesn't feel weird to play.
The only real weakness is his lack of a fast mid but I think that would be too much
don't consider lack of fast mid a weakness in this game. Almost nobody has fast mids, its a bonus you get, not a standard.
@@rooflemonger Oh for sure! I’m used to MK11 fast mids but I learned to adapt. His F4 has deceptively good range and learning to back dash then using B2,2 is where it’s at!
off topic but can you please use this stage for other characters guides too. i really like your breakdowns. looking forward to Reiko and Lao guide
please do a guide on scorpion
check IGN, I did their scorpion guide
I always think of Chef John from Food Wishes when I hear your voice lol. Different cadence, but the tone is there.
people been saying that for close to a decade now
Another banger vid! Can we get a Kung Lao? I feel like people are over looking him
I did not expect the havik guide next, got caught by suprise
@11:55 "There's almost no way you could stop this armor from going off" Reiko throwing star projectiles break it because they're considered many projectiles in one
nope they don't, its still 3 hits. It would have to be the EX stars
Can you do Shang Tsung next?? Love this series, thank you so much!

Havik have some secret techs with his combos
@coltonlavely4162
@Acusumano25
Good advice from both of you.
I play Havik with Frost got some would kombos from it too since most his attacks with her be treating it like ambushes
HAVIK MAINS UNITE
Havik is such a weird character to have in this ultra realistic style and doing these insane animations.
You can combo break the neck snap
dude please make a movement guide, no matter how hard i try to dashcancel im never as smooth as pros
"Hey, who's this Havik guy?"
"Ah. He's the lord of chaos. His fighting style centers on ripping his own head and limbs off and breaking his own bones for the lulz."
"Whoa sweet! Sounds weird! How does the play?"
"Good footsies."
i have been experimenting with Frost and Havik, she's definitely a lot worse than sub zero tbh but i just like her more as a character and all the little deadly alliance references in her move set
You wouldn't use it midrange, like, ever. Its something to do when you are already on top of them
@@rooflemonger Might not be the correct terminology, I dunno. What I mean is with just a little bit of space and walking back, it can be easy to bait and punish.
Haviks forward 4 is also a note worthy button
it really isn't, it kinda sucks
What makes u say that? It’s a safe low with good range and decent speed
@@john_frankford7450 15 frames, slow. Much better off going for sweep.
@@rooflemonger sure but u can’t combo from a sweep. You can with this move. Also it can be sorta staggered with the double low it offers. I main havik and the low is a pretty valuable tool when I use him. Not his best string but definitely has its uses
If your blocking low with his 50/50 against his F1-2 you can let go of block but the gap is supper tight. It is possible tho.
Kano is good balance between Cyrax and Sub. Good neutral, chip, pressure and damage. Sub has better neutral and damage, Cyrax has better pressure and chip, but Kano is best of two worlds.
No defence tho, pure offence.
Are you gonna add expanded versions of your IGN guides here chief?
IGN paid for the scorpion guide so its theirs, I relinquish the rights on the video.
d4 is prob punishable by certain specials, like reptile charge and reiko tackle. gotta be ready tho
I need the sub zero guide!!!! Tkssss
I think there’s a bug on his neoplasm? You spam it back to back repeatedly and you have a chance for it to fly off stage instead of the opponent
I think I'm going to main havik and Baraka.
I hope General Shao is next
more characters in time
@@rooflemonger I love all the characters in the game so waiting is no problem
Feel like u missed out on sareena synergy with havik.
Forward r1 fixes his zoning
Back r1 let’s him get high damage
She has a reversal as well
And her setup with haviks unblockable is nasty not allowing them to break.
hey roofle did you see the reddit post about player 1 advantage in this game? what are your thoughts? do you think it would be interesting for you to look into it / make a video about it?
Havik is one of my mains and his biggest problem is he gets combo scaled bad..they need to fix that..and that unblockable does not need to be 2 bars..I see why they made it that but with his shortcomings it doesn't make him too strong..hopefully they buff some of that but I worry where he just won the last tournament
