How to Upgrade Your RV’s Cabinets

Is it time to update the cabinetry inside your RV? This project can be as simple as cleaning or as big as painting all of your cabinetry. Here are a few ways you can upgrade your RV’s kitchen space, no matter your budget or timeline.
Small repairs. If you’re looking for a quick, easy way to spruce up the dings and scratches on your cabinets, you can use Sharpie or wood stain markers to make minor repairs. Simply color over the scratch with your marker and wipe over it with an alcohol-based wipe to blend it in.
Clean. Refreshing your cabinets with a thorough cleaning is another way to bring them back to life. Depending on what they are made of, you can use wood cleaning products or even degreasers like dish soap to revitalize your cabinets.
Replace hardware. Updating the handles or knobs on your cabinetry can totally change the way it looks. Since most residential cabinetry hardware is larger than RV hardware, you’ll want to make sure to take the correct measurements before buying new hardware.
Paint hardware. If you’re looking for a less expensive way to upgrade your hardware, you can paint it instead of replacing it. Sand the old hardware thoroughly and then use spray paint with a primer in it to update the color, or prime your hardware and then spray paint it.
Glass panel updates. If your RV cabinets have glass paneling that you want to change, you can easily cover up this section with a variety of materials like canvas, wallpaper, burlap, and more. You can also remove the glass paneling and replace it with a material of your choice.
Paint cabinets. If you’re looking for a bigger project to tackle, painting can completely revitalize your cabinetry and your RV’s kitchen space. When painting cabinets, remember to follow these tips:
- Remove cabinet doors and hardware before painting.
- Put hardware in labeled plastic bags so you know where it goes.
- Label cabinet doors to put each back in the correct place.
- Sand all of your cabinetry thoroughly and wipe it down with a degreaser before painting.
- Use a paint sprayer or sponge roller to apply one coat of primer and at least two top coats of paint.
