I found the gladiator comparison needlessly confusing. I don't need to know how important a belt is to a gladiator if you're talking about the theme. Tell me more about why the theme is important.
What’s funny is I think he had a much better metaphor (cars), but he wanted to have this “battling/fighting” metaphor and so used a gladiator - which is maybe the worst metaphor ever since gladiators never had consistent armor. They sometimes even fought naked. 😂
I did a quick search and found that MF Doom altered his mask to mimic the mask used in Gladiator. Saw that note a few different places, so it seems likely... or at least plausible.
I always ask the following questions before outlining the story: Who is the protagonist? What is their goal? Why do they need it? Who/what is standing in their way? What are the consequences if they don't achieve their goal? Where does the story take place? Who's the antagonist? What is their goal? Why do they need it? What's standing in their way? What are the consequences if they don't achieve their goal?
Who is the protagonist? The People What is their goal? Survive until death arrives Why do they need it? It is nice to be alive as long as possible Who/what is standing in their way? Lack of skills and luck What are the consequences if they don't achieve their goal? They die sooner than later Where does the story take place? Building Who's the antagonist? No one specific, but sometimes people sacrifice others to prolong their life. What is their goal? Survive until death arrives Why do they need it? It is nice to be alive as long as possible What's standing in their way? Lack of skills and luck What are the consequences if they don't achieve their goal? They die sooner than later
Ah, you understand everything l have always known: good quality armor matters. I have loved suits of armor since l was a kid. I have studied many different types of armor through out history, so l know how effective and what kind of Life saviors these things were. Now when l heard you name every piece of vital armor and explaining them one by one makes me smile and feel good about the coolest thing l know. Thanks for the video👍💪🙏
A model is a model. The problem with all of them is they mix story and storytelling elements. And if you want to make a go of the screenwriting thing, you have to be able to decipher between the two, or it will take you too long to learn how to decipher industry notes and, more importantly, take you too long to learn how to identify problems in your own scripts and know how to resolve them. If anyone just follows a model and don't know why things work the way they do, they just toss up their hands and think, "Well, I followed the model, so it should be working... I guess everyone else just doesn't get my script." But 99 times out of 100 the story is broken.
Greaves ARE shin guards. What your gladiator needs is arm guards. Must be built like Popeye. That time and place are the greaves is a bit of a stretch. The belt / theme is a bit underdone. For example, my story is an exploration of how different people react to foreign cultures, which is what ties everything together. Within that are lesser themes like escaping danger, finding acceptance in a new community and it is these latter conflicts that will probably end up on the cover, but the resolution is not the solution to these two conflicts, but the realisation that the power to resolve them lies within, not something to be awarded like a medal. And I am not hearing anything that complex in your exposition.
But if you lack coin, connections, crews, clout, computer code, control, corporate communities, and opulent opportunities... it won't matter what product you've created. If it ain't seen, it won't succeed. No exceptions.
funny, that's what i'm reading just now. tbf, a movie works differently from a novel. Less time to tell a story, mainly. But you can have multiple protagonists in a movie, too, I think.
add buts. A guy went down to the bank to rob it. BUT a beautiful woman started talking to him about spiritual evolution. He decided to take her to dinner that night but he had to rob the bank to get the money to pay for dinner. I’ve read “Save the cat” and Snyder actually explains very well all the elements in a detailed way. Your intro was a very good hook but at midpoint started to fall all apart. I think comparing two stories: a fail and a win would be more informative to understand the 9 elements.

Yeah, convoluted.
Same here 😞
According to the thumbnail, it looks like one of the things must be MF Doom.
It does definitely look like the MF Doom mask. They were probably inspired by that scene from The Gladiator.
I did a quick search and found that MF Doom altered his mask to mimic the mask used in Gladiator. Saw that note a few different places, so it seems likely... or at least plausible.
Had to point out, Greaves are the shinguards. Vambraces are the forearm protection.
If John Wick was a Gladiator, he'd be played by Keanu Greaves.
Always good stuff Jake. Thank you .

@@theq6797 Those answers are incredibly vague.
@@matthewlavagna6080 Yeah, that is why I don't outline a story.
@@theq6797 Sorry, I don't understand. Why don't you outline?
@@matthewlavagna6080 Because I don't need an outline to create interesting story. Why do you outline?
Well this got off to a nice start :)

I follow syd field's paradigm, is it good?

This one a little obvious. Storytelling 101.
what's the sheild?
Thats MF Doom!!!
Great video! Thanks!
You're welcome!
I think mystery is missing from this. A story needs a reader to want to know what is going to happen, a problem, or question.
I understand your point, but to clarify, mystery is a storytelling tool... not a story tool. For this, I was focusing on story elements.
Why can't I have two gladiators in one story? What if they fall under one common theme?
Intresting video. Keep making great videos

Great use of metaphor to explain the use of story structure 🎉🎉🎉
3:25 - you need to read "War and Peace". Also, this video is convoluted. Ditch the metaphor and get to the effing point.

@@missAlice1990 It's what is usually meant by an 'ensemble cast. "A Bridge Too Far" off the top of my head.

The gladiator thing made the video less useful
So just watch Gladiator?
