Only haters try to say the Indian is starting to look like a Harley, Indian has been around since 1900, and they even had an Indian four in the 1930s to 1950ish. Motorbikes are motorbikes Honda, Yamaha, Indian Harly, Kawasaki, two - three wheels and you can only do so much with that, just enjoy the ride.

I think the new Chieftain this is a wonderful great motorcycle, which deserves to be talked about. This new one is amazing, and it gives you a choice over the classic Chieftain, which everyone can still buy, and continue to buy in the foreseeable future. I think the "new" face of Indian, or should I say, the "other" face of indian are coming from bikes like the Scout Bobber, the new Springfield Dark Horse, and now the new Chieftain. Definitely from the same manufacturer. and you see family similarities, a bit rough, maybe darker, bit more in the background, more quiet sort of speak. - And then we have the rest of the family, which also more resembles each other, being majestic, classical, magnificent, and sort of loud. When you see all the Indian bikes together, you see that they are all related. Forget the absolutely boring Harley comments, heck! even forget about the victory comments. it boils down to, If you are not familiar with design, then two cars like say 2018 Mustang and 2018 Camaro will look the same. And who cares? What is your point of reference? My grandmother does not really care about cars, for her they will look alike, and good for her. She is no "car man". On the other hand If you are interested in cars, or concerned with design, you will immediately see a difference. i m m e d i a t e l y! - Many people will have trouble seeing a difference between let's say a Ducati Panigale and, say, a Aprilia RSV4 RF - Its normal. They may have a certain interest in motorcycles, but they are not that interested. on the other hand when motorcycles are not something that really really interests you, It's a huge difference! - If you' are interested - or have a" trained "eye, or know anything about motorcycle history... It is another story. This new Chieftain? it looks great!

This is the most positive comments I've seen so far on the new look. While I can agree to a point where they look more "Victory" that also looks (to me and to quite a few on the Indian MC facebook page) too similar to a street glide. Add in the extra money you'll have to dish out just for the new model, add in $1500 more if you are one of those who are bored with a black bike, and they seem to have priced out too many folks in my opinion. Just a Classic "not black" paint and add the stage 2, sissy bar, and heel toe shifter and you're at $30k.

Man, I'm happy I love all bikes. Ride an 05' Softail with 81,000 miles on it (all but 4,000 by me in the last 10 years). I really dig the Indians, still like the Harleys, but recently have been scouring the internet for Victories. Always loved them too but man, they're going cheap where I live. People are panicking and shouldn't. If you liked Victory and bought one, keep it if you can. Don't sell it for something else. They're unique where I live and that's only one of the things I like about them (bottom of the list). I just missed out on a 2015 Gunner last month because I debated too long. The guy let it go cheap. Had some great addons like cams, exhaust, etc. Seriously didn't think he'd go as low as he did, but he did. Damn.

I like the choices Indian gives you. A lot of people like the old style big fender and a lot don't, younger crowd likes chopped down. I like both. You get to pick what looks good to you and that's a good thing, not a bad thing. They are not copying Harley, they are making scooters appealing to all, so take your pick and enjoy!

Victory was and will always be the best american make bikes ever made, they had style like no other, easy to work on and customize, and didn't leak anywhere it stopped not to mention performance. Polaris made a huge mistake and I hope they realized it by now. Me personally will never trust a company that lied to its customers like Polaris did.

I mean its the same price as a street glide about for the base models, and you're getting Indian smoothness and build quality. Plus I like the look of this one more than the street glide personally, especially in the little details. I think its good that they left the old chieftain available but I definitely prefer this more 80s style tourer.

Yeah that does look nice. There's just something about this new fairing though. I love the 'locomotive' look of the Roadmaster and 2018 and earlier Chieftains but this new one just looks a bit more hardcore to me. I really want to see the walnut in the metal.

Dazzle Яebel Rides - I see some Victory CC design elements. Softer lines on the fairing and sharper lines on the bags compared to the CC. Same seat. Someone suggested that it looked like some of 2018 Victory Cross Country drawings except for the “V” rear lighting. Hmmm...walnut, burnt or natural? :-)

I'm not seeing as much Victory styling in this as people seem to be stating? That said and either way, I love the new chieftain! I would get the darkhorse in black but that Dark walnut looks interesting. I'm a little surprised at the dark horse taking such a jump upwards in price matching the limited I think. In the past Polaris has "cheaped" their blacked out models so hopefully the gloss touches are worth it.

People do realize that the roadmaster still has the classic look as well as the chieftain classic. They will continue to make both. If you dont like the new streamlined look you can always get a roadmaster or the chieftain classic. I think its great that Polaris/Indian is giving their consumers more choices. And thats what its all about. I do not see an issue. My only concern is that the chief classic doesnt come in dark horse. Other than that I dont have an issue with what they are doing.

Frankly, I'm surprised and a little confused at the styling change to a "more modern, updated look".....Did not Polaris just close down Victory because a high quality, high performing *"MODERN STYLE"* motorcycle didn't sell well....??? The TS111 has always been a blast furnace to sit behind when riding, which rear cylinder shut down will not do a thing for. This is a damn gimmic on any bike, unless the bike is sitting in dead idle for a long period(which rarely happens when "riding"), the rear is still going radiate heat in the short periods its not firing... Hey, at least the radio might sound better.....

    • @oneslave3318

Polaris closed Victory because they were losing big money every year.

I own two Indian bikes. One 2014 Chief Classic and a 2016 Roadmaster, but the new design of the 2019 models goes in the wrong direction. Not Victory design prevails but some HD features are groving as cancer. There were some leak photos of new Indian concepts according Victory elements, but they were OK. But this 2019 lineup is disappointing. Why the highway lights and turn signals disappeared from the front fender??? Spotlight is ugly!!! Looks like an old BMW R100. Saddlebags and seats also get similar to HD. Overall I am not happy with that design philosophy of Polaris. My enthusiasm for Indian begins to vanish. Try not to disappoint you customers in 2020!!! Totally think the Indian brand is mimicking Harley. Especially, the new 19's Chieftain. I wish Victory was still around. At least it was it's own look. Indian is an ugly bike that cost just as much as an Harley, but not even close in terms of style, looks, and quality.

Looks too much like a Harley. Not buying it. I’ll go with 17 and 18 models. Only saving grace is the war bonnet.

Polaris makes a pretty crappy motorcycle, and without the traditional Indian fenders they are not even worth a second look. This will likely prove to be the death of Indian once again. They dump Victory for Indian, then destroy Indian.
