This is so facinating. I've had my rings sized before. I know how to make most types of jewlery except ring casting and such. Eventually I would love to learn how to do it myself. I believe every person should know how to take care of their jewelry if their going to wear it. They should learn how to mend it and clean it so it lasts the lifetime of the wearer. My husband has had a ring for a long time. The piece has made it through both world wars. My wedding ring was originally a lady's who's mother gave up some of her diamonds so that her son and her could get married during the great depression. To this day the diamond that is the center piece has baffled jewelers when they see it. They say they have never seen a more pure diamond before. It was auctioned off after she died and found its way in a jewelry store and my husband was the one who bought it. So, not only did it survive the two world wars but the great depression as well. The piece means so much to me. Unfortunately every now and then I can't wear it because I had it sized up to 4 1/4th from the 3 and 1/2 that it was because I gained weight. But now were getting my heath back on track and it can fit my pinkey again lol.

Skip over some filing. Where to start and where to end? What to do if adjusting?

that is amazing and beautiful work! I had my rings sized up (pregnancy) and down once and I noticed that the ring is so thin on the backside after it went back to its original size, it is a bit scary (nice sized heart shaped really good quality diamond with a border around it and two stones on either side spaced back from the diamond-recessed a bit to protect them). I would have rather paid to keep the thickness but I thought that would be done automatically. And yes, it broke at the solder and had to be repaired as it is so thin and it wasn't cheap to get fixed. I thought I broke it but could not reason out how. It is still paper thin and this was from a very respected fine jewelry multigenerational family-run place. I am not angry-perhaps a bit frustrated that I didn't speak up and I know I lost some gold in the process, but I will talk to the jeweler next time and let them know what I now know. Actually, hopefully find someone like you because hubby went all out and artsy to give me an amazing set.

Great video! Question, I got my yellow gold wedding rings sized up and ever since then, I always get a rash when I wear them. I stopped wearing my rings 😔 do you know why that happens? The allergy is on top of my finger, which doesn't make sense because they added metal to the bottom of the rings just like you did

Hi, just left my broken ring at the shop to fix it, also to size it up a bit, now just wondering won't it break again by stretching it up? It's silver and got really thin over years. They say that they only put a piece in the middle, I asked them if they can make it a bit thicker, they say they don't do it? But my main question is won't it break again by being stretched?

How do you cut and file the stock so that the edges perfectly fit the gap and doesn't pop out?

Nice technique. But can it be done on 9.25 starling silver with solitaire AD stones or any other imitation ring? Or this flame process will ruin the total ring if it's not pure silver?

What’s the first grinder you use to clean up the ring? The sides and all? I’m still Oldschool like my dad and we use files

Great question! The quality of the solder could be one issue. Many “off-brand” solders may contain a lower gold or silver content than stated. That aside, you want to make sure you are using a “HARD” solder when sizing a ring. Example: use 14Kt yellow HARD solder for a 14kt yellow ring and use 19 or 20KT Hard or Weld grade solder for 14Kt white gold sizing. It will also be a stronger bond and less likely to “pop” apart after sizing. Shawn
