- In honor of halloween I'm releasing a secret that might get me killed... LOL. If I show up missing please look for me. But the secret is that if I have cut and colored my aluminum I don't hand polish over what I've colored. In fact I try to avoid touching what I've colored with anything at all. Hope this helps some of you with the questions with when to hand polish and when to leave it be.

old video by now but man you always hit the nail on the head, your probably the only professional in the biz willing to tell the truth...great vid bud
I'm trying to keep it as real as possible. Yes I sell products but try not to at the consumers expense. Why use more or buy more than you need to.
After reading just all these comments. All I can say is great episode. This subject is a definite the choice what to use comes with experience using the product's.
Facts.
I need to find someone in my area who can buff out aluminum. I just got a brand new Kenworth W990 dump truck and I noticed that some of the aluminum has some imperfections and the Heritage dump body does as well. Great tips on the hand polishing, I've had to hand polish a few things already on my truck.
Where are you located??
@@EvanStegerMetalPolishing Fredericksburg, Va
Not all us can take the wheels off and machine polish all the time were on the road and can take the trucks home or the company doesnt let you work on the trucks so it's nice to have a nice hand polish
Agreed
I used Terry towels on my tanks and it scratched the crap out of them. Looked like I used 80 grit sandpaper. I know hundreds of people that only use microfiber as I did at first but seen your video and switched to Terry and it looks like poo now
Thanks so much Evan so informative
Glad you like it. Thanks for watching.
Only use it to blend shit in I can't get at.. your the man bro.. I pay attention to your videos
Truly appreciate that. Thanks for watching and keep killing it over there.
I stopped hand polishing after cut and color a few years ago due to taking away from the shine. When I want that extra pop I use the purple bar and flannel buff.

Truth.
I also have a few personal tricks for removing 100% of the hash marks leaving a picture perfect high gloss shine. Generally that only gets done on my personal stuff or the rare occasion a customer wants show quality.
I like to do that quick 2 step and that’s it I obviously do use hand polish on places that I can get my buffer into
Same. Thanks for watching.
The "secret" got a genuine LOL out of me. Working on paint, I do nothing by hand when compounding and polishing. Coatings are done by hand. A wax or a sealant - DA.
Thanks for watching.
I dont believe he's talking about paint.
@@ismaelcarrillo3956 No kidding. Why do you think I specified paint in my post? To add an alternate point of reference to the discussion.
This is true, however with a work truck that’s on the road everyday I find I have to do a maintenance rub once a month and the zephyr 25 is excellent it applies thin and wipes right off and really makes it pop again. You’re gonna cringe but to preserve the shine, Furniture polish yes I said it. It works amazingly well. I’ve used jet seal to protect it but I find it knocks too much shine off. I don’t know maybe I’m putting too much on I’ll try using less next time. But lemon pledge it works great.
To each their own and you are right. I am cringing over here. LOL Putting straight lemon oil on to protect I'm sure does protect but I also know that aluminum being a sponge soaks it in and makes polishing with a grinder 10x harder next time you buff. Lots of people in my area use wd-40 to protect and it makes my life miserable. Polishing over the top of that sucks terribly. Thank you for watching and commenting.
When in doubt ...buff it out...👍✋🏼 good stuff lol 🤣
lol thanks for watching
Awesome video and thanks for the advice, but I have a question; where could i take some classes to learn how to polish metal better?
We offer training all winter long.
100% facts I’m right there with ya
Thank you.
So true! I learned the hard way.
Those hard lessons can be rough lol. Thanks for watching!
Great information!
Glad it was helpful!
Hey bro do you have a suggestion for getting previously mirror polished stainless steel exhaust that I think has oxidized some and lost a bit of its mirror? Is that something i can clean up with a hand product and maybe a drill with cone pad? Its a header so pretty tight area to work in.
You sure the exhaust is stainless steel and not chrome?
What’s the best way to polish a stainless def tank cover , that has never been done . Thanks
Thanks for the video Evan. Looks like terry cloth towels you have there, is what what yo use when hand polishing? Do you prefer that over microfiber? Thanks,
On aluminum I only ever use cotton terry cloth.
Hey even thanks for your videos, wondering what your opinions are on zypher products. Mainly hand polish as I’m probably going to do a hand polish before first snow. First time I cut I hand polished, glad I watched this before I did the save after I colored the second time around.
They make a fine product. It isn't my go to product but it works for most people. I use the time2shine products I sell on goshineon.com/shop but that is a personal preference thing.
@@EvanStegerMetalPolishing So I thought your buffer wheels and your rouge's you use were zephyr brands? Or do you make your own or source from ouswhere? Im a new subscriber and really appreciate your videos you make. I live in New Zealand so I'm not sure if you ship your products over here? Hope you, your family and business is doing well for you. Cheers Tim
THANKS EVAN
Thank you
You should drop your web link in the description as well.
It’s in there. Goshineon.Com/shop
@@EvanStegerMetalPolishing Thanks brother next time I'm up your way Ill stop and have you polish my pete up.
Hi. Hey so the reason why I use polish is cause when I'm done with the bar's, I have black streaks like inside the rock chip or in a scratch. Without sanding how to I clean it without using metal polish ??
I just use a softer buff to finish and figure out the right amount of compound. Black streaks or gum spots come from the compound getting too hot when hitting the pits. Find that happy medium and that all goes away. Hope this helps.
I'll give that a try.
I agree
best
So true!!!
Thank you.
Thnx bro
No problem. Thank you for watching.
what polish do you use ,in places that buffer does not fit into? and has to be done by hand?
We use Luhmi and Time2Shine aluminum polish from goshineon.com
Hahaha .... I was hoping there was a magic potion in a bottle
We are all hoping.
The best you ever going to get is by West sanding and polishing
Never heard of it. thank you for watching.
Hand polish only to wipe off buff marks
If you’ve polished well you won’t have those.
Ooooooh Yeah
Thanks for watching.
Is there any difference between random obital and da sander
Yes Check out my video on the difference between the two.
Sometimes after I cut and color I will put time to shine aluminum polish over that. Do you think that will cut down on the shine? If so I will stop. It seems to take off any residue better than anything else. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
If you do and don't color after it can dull it a little but not bad.
Ever use Flitz?
Yes. Not a fan.
@@EvanStegerMetalPolishing Oh, interesting. Was it the blue paste and not the liquid? What made you dislike it? I find it quite good for my projects.
Its tried and proven once again I go to cost effective.
Me too.
Any experience with zephyr pro 40?
They've been in business a long time and make a fine product. I don't personally use it but it works. Lots of great products out there.
Lol. Fingers clocked at 921rpms
lol
bang bang…
Thanks for watching.
Hey Evan check out my chrome polish video on my gas tanks at work I don’t have access to machines and just a driver trying to keep my company’s equipment clean can u shoot me some tips on what to use on the tanks and than rims and fuel tanks please would be greatly appreciated will return the favor by picking up some stuff from ur shop and what can I apply the polish with Thankyou
If you are doing it all by hand I recommend our aluminum hand polish maintenence kit from goshineon.com/shop. It comes with the Luhmi which is an aggressive hand polish to do all the heavy lifting and then a time2shine aluminum polish to do the fine finishing work. Comes with all the pads and the towels also.
Evan Steger thanku for the reply
Evan Steger turns out there is a power tool in the shop so if I used the luhmis what wheel would I get for just like a one step type deal and also can u use that on dura brites as well
Evan Steger also do u any type training course where ur at
@@kylecooper4268 I do have a training course.
What about the zephyr pro40 wouldn’t it be a good idea to put that on to protect it?
You can but almost all bars of rouge that are used for polishing have heavy amounts of wax and protectant in them. The hand polishes strip most of the heavy stuff off to apply lighter less lasting wax or protectant. But that is all hand polishes not just specific to any 1 brand. Great question.
