- In June of 2022, I travelled to the country of Georgia to compete in a 7-day stage race with Racing the Planet. We'd run 250 km while carrying all of our food and supplies for the week on our backs, and this 7-part series will document my entire adventure. It's now time to head to camp for the start of the race.

So when's Antarctica?
@@thebumpkin505 maybe one day!
When you think it's worth it, CC the member videos too! 🙏
Ah thanks for the reminder, I’ll do that!
Whoa, those dogs probably caused some pretty good adrenaline spikes. Awesome video series Jeff!
I watched this on my treadmill run and my easy zone 2 run jumped to zone 3 just from the stress of your situation!!! OMG!!!
Damn, that flag searching in the fog becomes more of a team building event than a race :D I really love how you all work together and nobody is driven by overambition. Hopefully the weather will get better in the next stages. As always, this series was well worth the wait, the video production and quality is top notch! Well done
I don't think I could run this race. I get scared by dogs really easily and this was terrifying for me
What a stressful first stage!! I admire your ability to stay calm and maintain a positive attitude and just work the problem!
ok this video seriously stressed me out for your sake, omg, between the dogs and the whole 'lost in the fog' vibe haha....
Hah, fortunately it gets better as the race progresses 😂
Totally! I was chased by a couple of mountain dogs in the Alps before and it was scary, but not anywhere near this intense!
All it needed was some tense, spooky music !
I really enjoyed how well you made us FEEL the situation you were in !!
You are one of the best story teller of the running community on RUclips.
Can't wait for next episode.
Those dogs were freaking me out! I don't think I've ever seen you look afraid in a race before, but the dogs were definitely getting to you. Real grace getting through that and dealing with the navigation difficulties!
The scene with the dogs is literally every single one of my runs. I live in Greece and it's exactly the same 😂
I'm in awe of your attitude and composure even amid obvious frustration
Ok I know dogs and that still made me nervous! They were just telling you to get lost, but still, like with angry people, you never know. The fog was cool it looked like another world.
This channel got me through covid, and it's amazing to see how it has grown. Well done Jeff.
I would have been shivering in my shoes around those dogs. Good for you for keeping your composure. Great video.
My goodness - WOW. Just wow!! Between the dogs and the flags I was frustrated just watching, I can only imagine how you felt out there especially being basically the start of day one. I'm sure you had a few choice words off camera LOL but well done (to all of you) for staying positive and making it through. I have had to stop following a few other channels as I feel like they have (what I'm calling) too big of a social media footprint in the races they are in. That is, the fact they are filming impacts the other racers in a negative way but I really appreciate your channel in this regard. You are always so incredibly respectful your "social media footprint" to those racers around you (in my opinion) is basically zero. Really well done on that. I'm sure it's often a huge balancing act. Can't wait for episode 3:)
Thank you! That’s definitely something for me to keep in mind.. can you provide an example or two as to what those negative impacts might be on other racers? Is it mostly just being ‘annoying’?
@@JeffPelletier Don't get me wrong you are nowhere NEAR what I'm talking about but some people are just so loud all the time and you can see racers/people around them looking at them like "Not this guy again" you know? I have been in some races where some social media person we just in everyone's way and acting like their experience (because they are filming) trumps everyone else. I'm a huge fan of how you handle yourself in this regard. Keep up the awesome work. Also - crazy they didn't provide a GPX file for the course out there in Georgia but maybe that was all part of the experience:)
This is peak trail running content. Your music choices are perfect. Next time bring doggie snacks
Such an unique series, mysterious landscape, protective guard dogs, marvelous narrative and your patience is just inspiring and motivating, thank you for sharing this beautiful moments with us, can't wait for next
episodes :)
I can say, i take my time to watch your videos. The places are amazing. In this particulary episode i almost want to run away from the dogs !!
Excellent display of the mental toughness a seasoned ultra runner is capable of! Very curious if you ever looked back at your heart rate log and checked what it looked like during the dog encounter. You handled it very, very well, and it appeared that any deviation from exactly what you did may have resulted in a pretty nasty attack. Bravo!
Very late to the party - awesome videos, as always!
I was so relieved when you found the flag going up the hill!
The dogs part was scary :) Those shepherd dogs get angrier and more aggressive in a pack, 1-2 dog is generally not so aggressive. Apart from the advice to not run away, I think the race organizers should have also said that one is not supposed to turn his back on the dogs when they come closer.
Ah I didn’t realize that. In fact, I assumed I was supposed to avoid eye contact. 🤷♂️
Oh man! This was definitely stressful! I can only imagine the frustration during the day… the dogs, the course markings. Goodness!
Great work. Very nostalgic for me. I spent ten days in Georgia, birdwatching, a few years ago. I hated those dogs. When we were over near Azerbaijan, in the far East, they had spiked collars to protect them from wolves.
16:25 straight out of a movie 🎥. Rewatching this episode.
This race brought to you by Roger Deakins
Your content is top notch. We appreciate the efforts you put in! Your attitude is inspiring.
Thank you for the effort and skill in bringing this to us. Personally, I cannot imagine doing this, but I respect those who take on this type of adventure!
I thought you were doing the Barkley Marathons for a second! but you've sold me on wanting to visit Georgia!
My dogs were on very high alert while I was watching this lol. My puppy was fast asleep and then bolted towards me barking when she heard that pack of dogs!
Holy Jeff this one is intense!! It blows me away that you can film even under this pressure and dogs. 🤘
I enjoy the running knowledge but I look forward to the serenity, nature and cinematography you bring to your videos.
Looked hard and very challenging.
Well done.
And photography is amasing!
You handled the dogs well.🎉🎉
I can't wait to see EP2 and more . Please bring for us more adventure and hidden gems . Thank you for your sharing and YOU ARE AMAZING !
Finally getting started on this series. Love being along for the ride.
Good God - what a nightmare! Kudos to everyone who made it through the first stage!
I've always wanted to do a Racing the Planet or Desert Race but I simply can not wrap my head about being in a calorie deficit for a week of hard running. 😫
The most amazing thing is that you actually shoot a film there.
these series' you do are always so incredibly detailed and enjoyable. i'm so excited that we get to enjoy another one! off to such a great start, as always!
Wow. Hard to know what to make of that. Equal parts stress, isolation and beauty when the landscape revealed itself. Thank goodness for RTH with the drone. And those dogs man oh man. Great document nonetheless. It can’t always be easy breezy I suppose.
Wow Jeff. That was super stressful. You handled it like a champ!
and we are off.. ❤
I really enjoy this serie so far. Man just seeing the dogs chasing you for so long made me nervous. Can't wait for EP3 :)
Excellent video series until now, looks like a magical place to run.
Aren't you guys running with a gpx file on your watch?
Unfortunately you cannot always count on the course marking as you showed in today's episode.
Thanks again for making this Jeff!
This video series is like vitamins to my adventuring spirit. I thoroughly enjoyed the music and sound bite choices.
Good on you for navigating your way through another challenging day. Cheers
Wouldn’t say the best ad for this race 😂
😂
Amazing filmmaking. The music and sound, editing, footage, graphics and storytelling is so good! Those dogs and the difficult wayfinding certainly had me a bit stressed. What an amazing adventure though!
Great video, thanks for sharing!!
Epic episode. It's really nice and heartwarming to see how this is a race but everyone is very friendly and open during time in the camp and you all come together to overcome the issues with the flagging 💜
Such a great attitude considering the adversaries! Great work and fantastic film! Looking forward to watching the adventures!
I am so excited for this series 👍😁
Fantastic video as always, really enjoyed, thank you 👍
Amazing as always, can't wait for the next eps
My god!!! Those dogs... I felt so stress for you. Good job to kept together your spirit and positive attitude with this difficult start in heavy fog👍
So wild!!! What a start!
Simply great!
Another great video 🙂
Wow, pretty stressful day that one Jeff. Those dogs were fierce!!
this is absolutely epic trail running 🙌🏻
This channel is a gold mine! Thank you for the content!
Count down begins! An incredible episode 1 🤗
The trailer is great 🧿💪🏻☺️
What a great episode, starting to get into the race mode. Looking forward to the next episode(s)

Fantastic episode! Can't barely wait for the rest of the of them 👍🥳🦿
Well done for powering trough that one, it looked challenging in many ways!
What an incredible journey and great storytelling. Eagerly waiting for the next episodes!
Amazing journey. The water, mud and dogs made for and incredible stage run
Jeff, as always, a masterpiece! Very much appreciate the time and effort you put into these series
Your truly incredible person and the video production is insane!!
Way to stay cool with those dogs! Top-notch videos Jeff.
Wow I was stressed for you and conditions were awful! Great series so far!
How good! Love your videos Jeff! Feels like we’re running right next to you. Definitely a bucket list race for me!
Amazing scenery, Georgia is a country to visit for sure, thank you for these episodes, can't wait for the 3rd episode!
Love love this series! The scenery is beautiful. Music choice is A+
Amazing Jeff, how you do all this AND run so well. Well done - looking forward to the next episodes!!
Such a good video, well done. Wife & I really enjoying this series - been watching it on our TV.
The dogs are an absolute nightmare 😨
Amazing documentary once again Jeff! And nice time on your stage finish haha :D blaze it! (medicinal only ofc)
Amazing video as always Jeff! Such good video and cinematic quality, wow! Those dogs tho, would have shit myself I think haha :D
Fantastic and inspiring video! And thanks for the CC! Waiting for Ep. 3 🤩
You bet! I know the captions are important for a lot of my viewers.
Wow way to handle and maintain your composure!! Great job!! I train dogs and you did fantastic!!
Great stuff Jeff. Very diplomatically handled too. I can imagine for such an expensive race to enter, at minimum I'd be somewhat peev'd that they didn't even have a pre-sweep in place - and also they should know once fog set in that morning to send someone ahead to put more flagging in place that it would be sufficient. 50-100m per flag is pretty ridiculous in such terrain - long grass! wtf would have still been very hard to follow on a clear day.
Salomon pack!!! Great choice, right? Beautiful scenery. Can't wait to follow the rest of the race!
Good video, like always. When I lived on Vancouver Island I always wanted a piece of clothing that had spikes woven in to it, which could be erected by pulling a string like with curtains. Running alone there freaked me out so bad.
Wow those dogs were intense!
wow! very frightening scene with the dogs, how did you manage to stay calm after seeing that they kept coming over you? Love your videos! Regards. Hernan
I don’t think I could have gotten past the dogs!
Yeah ive commented the cpl of days ago when i watched you & audree climb that rocky ridge mountain thingy ( sorry forgot the name ) and that was the only video so far since i have found your chanell that was a bit too scary for my liking but man , those Dogs had me quitting race the planet GEORGIA on day one ... felt for you mate .. and those flags going missing or whatever omg 😂 i was on a plane home right there 😮😮 .. well done .. absolutely love your videos , every single one of them ❤
man, 3 of those dogs, congrats for the calm.
My entertainment for the evening. Watched Ep.1 at an Airbnb this weekend on a tiny screen. Maybe I’ll string 1 & 2 together tonight instead and help pad the view count ha ha ha. Hopefully the next guest at that Airbnb also sees a bunch of ‘Jeff Pelletier’ recommendations to dive into as well. ;)
Perfect job and it is very exciting, looking forward to watch the next one! Greetings from Turkey, maybe you come and join one of our ultra trail events in Turkey..
Those dogs were scary!
Whew.. terrifying dogs. And I like dogs. 😮
Hi Jeff wow 😮tough start. We use to squirt dogs with the water bottle that shocked them 💦🤣🇬🇧Jc.
The dogs really made me nervous for ya Jeff.
This kinda fog and route where you can't figure out where you're going, maybe give Brekley a try next time 😜
Let's get this show on the road:)
Great series. Keen for an update on your pack after this series. Are you using the waist strap? It seems to bounce a little.
Awesome stuff Jeff, a few pieces of beef jerky will take care of the dogs............
That’s what I was thinking!
all the best for you from India ❤
Those dogs Jeff! Christ man!!!
