The memories of my childhood in wildwood. The WONDER of everything. From borrowing 5 dollars from my mom to go play ddr or play in the arcade and just SO HAPPY IN THAT MOMENT. met a girl that changed my life. Spent time with my family. LOVED eating pizza and hanging out at the waterpark. Going on the rides. staying out on the boardwalk with just my sister while our parents went back to the room and we met so many new friends. playing the games on the boardwalk like ring toss, hoping to win a frikkan GAME SYSTEM! that was CRAZY back then. Back in the day when everyone wasnt addicted to their phone or computer. I think its time to go back in time. Goodnight all i love you!!!!!
In 1994, I was 24 years old. My family went to Wildwood for vacation. That's where all of Philadelphia went on vacation. Will always love going down the shore⛱🌊especially Wildwood,NJ🎪🎢🎡🎠🚌
You know what's so great about this clip? It's different. I don't know just different. Some clips are the same or different but this clip is different.
I grew up in Wildwood in this time period Yea it was nutts Especially the philly girls Walk down the street past the big rooming houses people would invite you for a beer Bars closed at 5am
It's scary to see just how much mobile phone technology has changed the dynamic of how people interact and socialize with one another. I grew up in the 80s and vividly remember the prominence of phone booths in public areas, but even back then people of all ages weren't too inclined to hang around them as much as people with smartphones today ponder over their own phones. It was usually people choosing a place and time to do it and then move onto something else, whereas now people are on their devices 75% of the time it seems.
They were next to the Douglass fudge pavilion (in other scenes like at 1:52 she is sitting on the railing in the pavilion). The phones are long gone now, but if you still find the exact location next the the pavilion, because the bolt holes that held the payphones up are still in the boards of the boardwalk. Also at 2:31 mark you can see the marbles platform behind the phones.
This video made me laugh. I grew up in Ocean County, NJ. I was in high school from 1989-1993, so this is about my era. Seaside, Wildwood, and Pt. Pleasant were all pretty much the same. More Philly people in Wildwood though. They should do a "Where are they now?" Video. That would be interesting. 😄
I met a Canadian girl one summer in Wildwood when I was probably no older than 13. At the time of writing this, I'm 42. Obviously, she was memorable. Any reason in particular that you know of that Wildwood, NJ would have attracted Canadians? Is it just a matter of traveling just far enough south to get a 'hot summer' experience, or is there more to it? @@BlackAbe007
This is really neat! I was 30 years old when this was filmed and my wife and I used to go here all the time and hang out on the boardwalk on all the weekends, from 1989 to 1995.
HaHA! I lived down in Wildwood 1982-1996 and graduated down there this brings back memories! I worked at morey's pier for a couple summers and the memories I had growing up and working in Wildwood are priceless! Wildwood was CRAZY when i was in highschool 1992-96 especially on memorial day weekends. I'll never forget all the cars and millions of people flocking to Wildwood on memorial day weekend.
This one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. I never do this, but I ordered the DVD right away and it just arrived. Can't wait to see the whole thing!
lol nah i was in wildwood for my first time in 1995 and i can tell u this looks pretty accurate...the way they speak, their sense of humor, its outdated. and a bit naive...its lovely. even though with the thinking process of people today they might dislike this, its unfortunate if you werent a philly native and looked forward to spending your summers in wildwood in the 90's cuz shit was poppin man...ill always miss it
the one with the shoulderless blouse is hilarious - she managed to hospitalise someone after being blinded by mace. & she also managed to kill someone who stuck a gun in her back...LOL! we all went to school with someone like that-everything was extreme. You had a headache, they had a suspected brain tumour; you had cramps, they needed a hysterectomy; you slapped someone, they murdered someone. RIGHT! The really dangerous girls were the ones that didn't brag much, they just went for you.
I go to Wildwood every summer for vacation with my family, and have done so since 2007. This will make my 4th straight year going there and my family loves it. I find it to be much nicer than Ocean City, MD.
I have fantasies - not those kind, head out the guttah! - but seriously, about going back thirty years to this time as a travelling DJ, and watching the looks on their faces when I drop "Bad Habits" from 2021 Ed Sheeran on 'em! Or some recent Dua Lipa
I worked there for 2 summers 1998 and 99, most of my pay went on booze and phone cards lol. I remember even then mobile phone technology still hadn't fully taken over and these type pay phones were in constant use. There were still cameras everywhere but only because people were recording their holiday. I had the ability to remember multipile phone numbers, codes, and extention numbers while quite drunk to phone home to Ireland lol. Not a chance I could do that now, Smart phones have changed everything.
I always take off after Labor Day to hit up the Jersey seaboard. I do it because the rates are cheaper and things not so crowded. The weather & ocean temps are still great, so it's the best of both worlds. It may be the abyss, but it has a lot of nostalgia for me, plus I have friends there and we have great times.
Lots of despair in the interstices of this video. Somehow I prefer Wildwood in the off season, but then the emptiness merely takes on a different quality. Either way, we have a glimpse of the abyss here.
@caprisonne47 Apparently the homicide rate in Wildwood went thru the roof in the summer of 94. They went from 1 every few years to I think she mentioned 3 just in this teaser vid.
I am the same age as these girls , used to go to Wildwood every summer from Toronto .. have very fond memories was there again in 2019 but its not the same …
So, I've heard other's say that Wildwood was popular among many Canadians. I remember meeting a Canadian girl one summer in Wildwood when I was probably no older than 13. At the time of writing this, I'm 42. Obviously, she was memorable. Any reason in particular that you know of that Wildwood, NJ would have attracted Canadians? Is it just a matter of traveling just far enough south to get a 'hot summer' experience, or is there more to it?
Does anybody else remember that one ride that used to be there? The one for kids, where they sit inside of a seal of something, and go around in a circle on water, and has a really tiny hill? Does anyone remember what it was called? lol. I remember going on it all the time, many years ago.
Can anyone tell me if wildwood is different? Is it the same or different every night...Can you meet new people; every night but, the real question is; Is it different? :)...Going there tomorrow with a buddy...Oggle some bikini's like we been doing for decades...~ sigh~ Wildwood is like a flash back to the 50's...If the 50's were filled with 3rd worlders and PR's from the Bronx and Brooklyn sporting tattoos and looking like they'll kill you...:)...Good times!
Depends on where you are overall wildwood isnt very nice as a whole but there is worse spots than others like north is definitely not by any means nice but it's worse than Crest which is probably the nicest part but still alot of crime in the whole city

If you watch the whole documentary, you'll see that in truth they were different stories... different girls. In all, I counted that she put at least three different girls in the hospital, and killed one. Thus... her credibility becomes much more believable.
Need some help, friends! ...Can anyone recognize exactly where along the boardwalk the payphones shown in this clip were? Block number, or East-West road name, or in comparison to something on the boardwalk still existing today (2024)?

Dave had better pick up that damn phone before she puts him in the hospital.
Weird to wait next to a pay phone

Very true
A few from NJ, but knowing Wildwood, most of these folks probably from NE Philadelphia.
I'm pretty sure those payphones are still there, right next to the Hot Spot by the beach entrance... So it's not that different.
No way those pay phones have been gone and most of this footage is nowhere near a hotspot.
i live in south jersey and work in wildwood every summer and there are no payphones there anymore, they took them out 10 years ago.
The beach section this was filmed is opposite Douglass Fudge between the Pavillion and... a Hot Spot.
Where exactly is that location? Block number or East-West road name?@@adamv2
