I became pen pals with an 17 year old Irish girl when I was 12. She worked at Pierre’s on the Boardwalk in 1990. We lost touch, and I didn’t think about her for 20+ years.
I worked at Mariner's Arcade circa 95'/96' and my exposure to foreign nationals (Mostly Irish) there as co-workers ultimately me to become a world-traveler. I even ended up living in ireland for 3 years. Great memories/experience.
Wildwood also isn't the same without the classic dark attractions like Castle Dracula and the custom Hunt's Pier attractions. Castle Dracula opened 1977 and burned down Jan 16, 2002 and some artifacts survived thanks to Eric Princz who worked there in 1985 after coming from Brigantine Castle which closed by 1985 and burned down Sept. 1987. He sold some of the artifacts to castle fans. There is a push to rebuild it by some former employees and visitors, and Angelo Nickels. It would probably have to be rebuilt in a different spot. The Splash Zone water park owns the former castle spot now.
I remember in the late 80s and early 90s, there were MANY Irish workers down Wildwood. They were always so pleasant and nice! Nowadays they hire Asians and Mexicans. Robotic, disconnected personalities. It’s not like how it was back in the day.
