The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Supremes is a treasure that will be forever stored in Music History 🎵🎷
AMEN!!!!!!!
I swear....watching Motown clips can take you down a rabbit hole for hours before you know it
It happens to me all the time....🎵🎶💥 It crosses me over into the Twilight-Zone😎
OUR WORLD IS TRULY EMPTY WITHOUT U FLORENCE BALLARD, THE TRUE SUPREME & MARY WILSON. REST IN HEAVEN
Wow I was born in the 80s and never got the hype but now being grown and actually appreciating music and diff decades I see the impact. These ladies were the sound of the United States during that time. WOW. This performance was great they were having fun!
I can remember being so excited when The Supremes were on Ed Sullivan. Mary, Florence and Diana were all so beautiful and talented that you couldn't help falling in love with them. My world is certainly empty without Mary and Flo. May they rest in heavenly peace.
As a little girl I always looked up to The Supremes. The voices, lyrics and out right glamour was mesmerizing.
This is live Back in day when people could sing.
Rest in heaven Mary...our world is empty without you 💔 🙏
@D M sure is Mary Wilson co founder of the Supremes you are truly missed. RIP BEAUTIFUL LADY 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
VJ you sure have that right ,,,RIP Mary
Don't forget FLORENCE may they BOTH RIP
She was definately the best mover of the group, and one very classy lady.
Love your post!!! Mary truly reigned Supreme!! 💅💅💅
I think all of Motown was stunned when this one didn't reach #1 (# 5 in Feb, 1966) I love this song and wish it had reached the top spot.
R.I.P Florence Ballard & Mary Wilson. Two beautiful girls who made music so legendary in the 1960s.
This song just takes me back. You just couldn't wait for the next new song from Motown to come on the radio. What a golden era.
Mary and Florence, woman of elegance. Love you two, both are shinning over us ;supreme fans.
Dave
RIP Ms. Mary Wilson. Just 2 weeks ago I was binging on The Supremes and was so happy at seeing such talented women as they captured worldwide attention. I am so devastated at the loss of Mary Wilson. She always brought so much energy to their performances. 😢😢
100%
Florence Ballard looks Stunningly beautiful and I can hear her above DR and Mary Wilson looks gorgeous too. RIP Mary Wilson in heaven with your true sister Supreme Florence Ballard singing in heaven 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The world is a bit emptier without you, Mary. RIP Mary Wilson March 6, 1944 - February 8, 2021 ❤
Their best song in my opinion...
Those were the days. They were quite magical. 🌹 RIP Mary.
The extraordinary talent of this group. And Barry Gordy's marketing genius to make this style of music more palatable to the mainstream.
Ray Bloch and Ed Sullivan's orchestra really replicated the Funk Brothers arrangement very well.
Miss Ross truly has a gift that lifted young America in the 60's, your voice is truly inspiring.
AMEN
@chakur25 why are you lying? It's so much more to all of this. You're choosing the default story that everyone has been using for years. You have to do your research.
@chakur25 I know you're not being confrontational no worries. The default story is that Diana was just an evil witch from the get go and that she purposely slept with Berry to get ahead. There is so so so much more to the narrative than this.
@chakur25 way too much to type lol
@chakur25 flo has the potential to be like Aretha but of course didn’t given any chance
The Supremes walked me through the teenage angst of puppy love and so many crushes. They'll always be number one to me!
I was a kid and had heard them on the radio plenty of times, but this was the first time I saw them on TV. I loved all three of them!
Th close ups of Diana Ross really show what a gorgeous woman she is!! WOW
2:25 incredible how that smile is missed by thousands who have never met her.
Rock on Diana, Mary and Flo!
I love how they do this. A person trying to be happy and put on a smile, though they are in misery without the one they love
I remember watching this Show when I was a boy.
Another Great Supremes Song 🎼
RIP Mary Wilson
some impending doom is all i feel when i hear this song, that bass boom boo boom boom bo bo boom so brilliant..
***THE SUPREMES*** THEY SOUND SO GOOD !!! AND LOOK SO ELEGANT.....ALWAYS FASCINATING. !!!
You are 100 % correct !!!!!!!!
God Rest Your Beautiful Soul Mary!! R.I.P.
What a fabulous woman that Diana!
Rest in peace Mary.
Songs of a pre teens world 😊
Thank you Mary and Flo :) and of course Ms. Ross the Boss.
Ooooh, I like that dance break! They worked it out!!
I just love it, wow this is so wonderful.
This is one beautiful song, one of my favorites.
my favorite song of them in the most beautiful performance ever of them. The supremes did their best effort doing this performance.
The surpremes looked their best at this time
@@mattc2094 I agree so why did DR and BG kick Florence Ballard out
@@georginahawcroft8044 it’s a shame Florence was ousted
@@mattc2094 Yes it was for DR I don't like her anyway. Her and BG wanted Florence Ballard out it wasn't fair what those 2 did to her.
There is something haunting about this song
Its the bridge. Amazing band
There is no one like Diana Ross respect to the Boss..amazing am blesswd to hear her God bless real talks❤🎉
The music from today never get this style and this class
One of the best singers ever!
Flo’s hair looks so good on her! 🔥
They rocked it with full soul!
So odd to re-catch this great performance for the first time since after Mary passed, having watched it many times before, and reflecting on realizing that both Florence and Mary on the stage there are now both gone. 😔
DESDE CHILE 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱 HAGO SABER, QUE FUERON PARA MI THE SUPREMES. MIS ÍDOLAS.

Yes indeed, they were and remain might fine ! It took a while for Ed Sullivan to accept them but gradually he came to his senses and i do believe he actually and understandably became quite enamored ;-)
Wow, I was 27 days old when this aired. Born into good music.
Rest In Peace Mary Wilson
Another great song
I love Ms. Flo's hair like this 👌❤️!
Florence Ballard looks absolutely beautiful here far better than DR
All three of them girls Rocked!!!! 💯 💞
@@LindseyWoolsey well I think Florence Ballard was the better I don't like DR anyway.
@@georginahawcroft8044 please listen to Florence Ballards entire interview a year b4 she died....and you'll see She blamed Diana Ross none at all....She said they were like Sisters and they Grew up together....Young. So get over the Jealousy and Unessary Hate Ppl have Loved to have for Ms Ross. She's a Living Legend. I Loveeee Flo. Was once Written she carried herself Most Supreme like...however the TWELVE number ONE'S 💥💥💥 were chosen by the People because of All three of those girl's Talent....With Diana Ross on Lead!!!!! 💞 💯
@@LindseyWoolsey no I won't get over anything. Who's to say Florence wouldn't have been famous had she not passed away. Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson were far Supreme simple. Next time I won't dignify you with an answer.
Its amazing to se all of this talent and riding past Motown a million times. I can still feel the energy in Detroit!!!
Magical sounds from the greatest female groups in music history...
YOU ARE 100% CORRECT....THEY HAD SO MUCH CLASS ......WOW
They're incredible. Soulful. Love it.
Soulful? More like cute. Martha and the Vandella's were soulful.
@@sarnahudane4583 awww wow. Thank you for the correction. (Sarcasm)
Ed Sullivan loved The Supremes! He had good taste!.
I am always a huge fan of the Supremes. Seeing the lasting legacy in rock music history of these 3 young Black girls is incredible. The Motown days were the greatest days, and I say this as a White guy.
WOW, FLORENCE BALLARD and DIANA ROSS KILLED IT , THOSE 2 ALWAYS STOOD OUT , they were so POWERFUL and DIFFERENT it showed the CHEMISTRY that made Surpemes become THE SURPEMES, each had such strong PERSONALITIES it made them SOUND AMAZING,, and far different then the REST .. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
My world is empty without you babe.
Great Motown music and a truly fab performance. Wow !
[ agree 100%........what a show.....WOW !!!
2024❤❤❤❤❤
I LOVE THE SUPREMES ❤️❤️❤️
Anybody agree that Flo was absolutely gorgeous?
Flo Ballard is beautiful gorgeous pretty lovely. When I was in my twenties I meant a young girl friend of mine sister she could have been Florence Ballard's twin. I was in deep ,she had my nose wide open. I'm native American however I look Caucasian every black guy in the neighborhood was jealous. She was ghetto. I discovered you could take the girl out of the ghetto but he can't take the ghetto out of girl. I know she was in love because she never attempted to use never requested anything except my company, wit her fine self. Circumstances caused us to go our separate ways. The song bring me back what it was to be wit her touch her lover love. She sang beautiful voice great dancer Lord have mercy I can drive myself crazy thinking about her her name is Lynette.
She was radiant!!!!
I think all of them are gorgeous 😊
Radiant drop dead gorgeos @@dhendrix6638fine as wine beautiful pretty all that. Looking at her I think of one thing Lord have mercy !
I deeply agree at it
Love it as much in 2021 as I did in 1964. RIP, Flo and Mary...much love to you. ❤️🙏
Best-selling American group of all time.. I dig this sped-up version!
Falling in love music
LOVE is KEY to all humanity ............
This is a great group. I was sad when the broke up
Motown will live on forever....love the sax 🎷 on this
What a fabulous performance of one of my favorite Supremes songs
Respect.
I thought I’ve seen them all but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this one!!
No, you have not seen them all. There are more!!! I want "No Matter what sign you are" "In and Out of Love" "The Happening" "Always" "Love is Like an Itching" "More" (which they perform, after Love is Like...) "You're Nobody (perform with Ed Sullivan). so much more!! ;-)
@@design17 Yes I do know that there is more and I'm waiting for those as well! But I don't remeber seeing them perform my world is empty without you :) I can't wait for the Irving Berlin medley one
ojeda99grace The only Ed Sullivan performance that hasn’t been seen yet is at the end of the Irving Berlin Special when the girls come out with the other guests of the evening and sing Happy Birthday to Irving Berlin.
I wish there was more close ups of Mary & Florence , they were absolutely gorgeous in these clips !
Mary was always the dancer of the group :----)
I’m so glad this is on RUclips again!
Me Too!! I Loved this Performance
Git it Ladies!!!! Very well done!!!! Bravo!!!!!! 👏 💯 💞
One of my favorites. Just look at the style those ladies had. Some ladies and I would sing a few of the Motown songs on talent shows. Beautiful dresses yes and those shoes.
They were fashion icons.... glad they were showing white audiences how beautiful black women are
Beautiful women come in all shade. And it's great when all races of people can see that. Thank you for the reply. It's appreciated.
@@pbenson56fran you’re welcome... I would loved to have seen the supremes live, back in the day
Ed adored the Supremes, that's why he had them on so much, beside the fact they were the best & hottest girl act around!!!!!
RIP Mary :'( Touching song
My fav song by the Supremes
Such a good song
Classy ladies
Truly our dream girls.
My Mom rests in peace, she loved The Supremes id listen with her, singing along! This is rare i dont listen to the music till recently. Thank u
It’s wonderful music... glad it brings back special memories... would have loved to have seen the supremes live back in the day
Matt C
They were spectacular live in concert! I’m sorry that you weren’t able to have seen them. Maybe you were too young or not even yet born? I was fortunate enough to have seen the original line up twice. The first time I saw them, Diana brought me on stage to sing “Where Did Our Love Go” with the group. I then saw the line up with Cindy three times. Their performances were something we had never before seen or heard as they blended show tunes with their iconic hits. The camaraderie on stage was fun and, despite the hard work involved, the ladies had a blast with their audience.
The baddest
I love this song!!
Diana Ross has a hauntingly beautiful and sadly emotive tone in this song and sings like an ol' soul. Her soul music was always sophisticated, and she sings so clearly. She does not over sing like a lot of Black artists do and make it out to be a gospel song when not, but she does not under sing like a lot of Whiter artists do and are dry.
WOW!! That was a GREAT summary--you nailed it!! BRAVO!!
Powerful.
Back when you actually needed TALENT to be famous and successful.
What incredible harmony!!❤🎶
One of the best songs ever and I will miss Mary Wilson(76) as she was the best ! DOD:2-8-2021) God Bless Mary Wilson.
Florence's vocals were the backbone to the groups harmony. You can hear the difference after she left the group. That deep richness of the group's harmonies was missing.
So true
Agree 100%--she was the powerhouse engine that really made them great!!
Most SUPREMES RECORDINGS after REFLECTIONS ONLY FEATURED MISS ROSS, background vocals were session singers THE ANDANTES amongst others.
@@mjc5509 why wouldn't mary & flo be on studio version?
YES. And Diana Ross and Mary Wilson KNOW that. Mary has spoken on all the adjustments she had to make with Flo's departure and I've read in a few Motown biographies how Ross complained and how she really wasnt confident about Flo leaving because she knew everything about the Supremes was going to be affected.
Yes!!! The original name and members I love them this way!!!
@Alain Quartermaine Yes before Diana Ross and The Supremes
One of my faves since i was a teenager. And im a mileniun child:) amazing band aswell. Diana had it
Que hermosa voz tiene la chica, !!!!! Las tres hacen excelente sincronia de voces...the supremes lo mejor de lo mejor... I love it
Paint it Black brought me here. The Stones got that vibe right here.
Such details
One of the best girl groups of all time. They got the dance moves down to a science. They all look like such seasoned entertainers
They are wonderfully talented.. even 50 years on... so sexy and elegant
It's SOOOOOO instantly clear that from the get go, Ms Ross was an absolutely STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL SUPERSTAR. She quite literally POPS in 3D through the one dimensional TV screen.
A music from heaven that kind of music must be revived these days.the music of today is so dark k pop all about heartbreak and all about covers drugs and sex.
Keep them coming!!!!!
Ed Sullivan was the man !
