- In 1963, one of the major hit songs was written and sang by a nun. Dominique topped the charts! The nun was invited on the Ed Sullivan show and later her story was made into a movie starring Debbie Reynolds.
I love this Song since my 11 years old in 1962 in a Basic School in Dom Pedrito, Brasil, near the border of Uruguay. Que saudades!!!
we sang this song all the time we were wandering in the mountains of Bavaria
Number 1in Amerika for six weeks in 1963!!
A reminder of a more gentle, kinder and happier time.
this is a beautiful song I love it so much God bless you ❤️ ♥️ 🙏 💖 💕 💗 ❤️ ♥️ 🙏 💖 💕 💗 ❤️ ♥️ 🙏 💖 💕 💗 ❤️
Love, Love, Love.....May God bless us all.....
Brought tears,,,the first in 2021,,,Lord may we live to serve You
Dear friends, I got to know Sister Sourire in the early eighties. She was a good and sincere person. Sister Annie was also very honest and extraordinary, especially; together they both gave their time and attention to children in need. Many times I have been received with much friendship by Sister Sourire and Sister Annie in their apartment in Wavre (Belgium). She once cooked a meal (and I'll never forget this) Brocolie with burgers and some potatoes for me. I will never forget her and Sister Annie. Jeaninne and Annie were real people (as God wanted it to be). All their attention went to the neighbor and especially to the least fortunate in this hard society.
more people should pay attention to this
song! i doubt the
radio ever played it..
may god bless this
world , we need that
now more than ever!
I bet you had a great time with them.Im not Catholic but i like what I hear and what i don't but that song is really great
@@lindajanke6454 they did play on the radio I remember it clearly. My dad loved it.
I was 7 or 8, I believe, and my Sister, 13 years my senior, brought the 45rpm and played it over and over. She then learned it on her guitar and would play it for me. I had no idea what the words meant as it was in French. But regardless, it touched me deeply. Years went by and the song seemed to get lost. Flash foward to today,( 8/18/2022), and this song came back to me. Looking it up here on RUclips, I listened to 3 versions. Still, a beautiful, wonderful song.
God blessed all these sisters for giving us such a beautiful song of St Dominic .
Played and sung this song for my grandson when he was a toddler. It came into my feed this morning, and I asked him if he remembers. He said yes. He is 5 years old.
Wunderschönes Lied Habe es schon lange nicht mehr gehört Dankeschön
I remember this song from way back in the 60s. Very good memories. The good old days are gone forever, but not the great memories.
1963 had to be the most eclectic and diverse year for popular music ever! And the Beatles hadn't even put their stamp on it. Thank you for this great version of the Singing Nun!
so beautiful, it made me drop some tears....., a damn world of difference of what we have today..bad bunny "the best singer of all times" ....oh lord, we're really going on the wrong direction
#WOKEGOTTAGO
But with over 3 million viewers on this song I think it shows some hope for the future. Many people's hearts seem to be still in the right place! It is some encouragement for us all!
I was named Dominique because of this movie and grew up in the convent with the Dominican nuns singing this song to me.
What a shame!!....my heart is with you🙋🙋
Lucky! God Bless!
She is a Awesome singer I love it so much God bless you ❤️ ♥️ 🙏 💖 💕 💗 ❤️ ♥️ 🙏 💖 💕 💗 ❤️ ♥️ 🙏 💖 💕 💗 ❤️
Hello 👏 how are you doing today?
I love this song, Dominique. It’s very catchy.!
Ein wunderschöner Song 💞🌱 den ich viel in meiner Jugend gehört👂 habe ich liebe💞 ihn heute noch danke für das Anspruch volle Video🎥, 🌹🌹🐝
Need more songs like this and people like Dominique
The 60's was probably the last time I heard this tune played by Debbie Reynolds on television till now .
That is amazing. I'm 54 only heard about this song through her book Debbie Reynolds story. Her husband pop star singer' Eddie fisher' wasn't happy with this little songs huge success or anything else Debbie did especially on stage. She tried , tried, keeping it together. Eddie ignore her push her away with his hand. At dinner in front of company. Where everybody act like they don't knowtice but really do. Everybody Relieved when theyer our. Breath again cause narcissist are known for sucking all the air out of a room
My beloved and missed MOTHER used to sing this beautiful song at home! How I miss her, my GOD!... = Minha amada e saudosa MÃE cantava esta linda música em casa! Que saudades dela, meu DEUS!...
I used to sing this to my oldest grandson when he was little, his name is Dominic, he's 26 and he still remembers me singing to him lol. I remember watching The Singing Nun, it was usually shown during Christmas.
I remember hearing the song on the radio when I was a 9 year old boy back in 1963.
Beautiful song. I never knew they made a movie, and this Debbie Reynolds version of the song. I appreciate it more now. ✝🛐💗⛪
I (from Austria) too
Ditto! Just to show you that it was a worldwide hit, I was a 10 year old boy in India in 1963
I think this is the Mary Ford version. The Debbie Reynolds version doesn't mention "Johnny Lackland" (King John II) ruling over England.
@@davidsylvia8200 This absolutely is not the Debbie Reynolds soundtrack performance from the movie, but both the movie and the original soundtrack album from it are well worth tracking down, especially for those who would like to hear Sister Sourire's songs performed beautifully, in English translations.

I love this song. Mama bought this record and I would play it almost everyday. To the point I was learning to sing in French! I was born in 1954 and have sweet memories of the 60s. Thanks to the nun who made this beautiful song a hit. I'm sure the song was loved by all. I always think of mama when I hear this song.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Catchy tune can’t stop singing it❤😊
I love that song. I'm older then this song, but still I love it. We used to sing it back in grade school. Back then we had prayers and respect in school's. Not gun's or drugs.
you must be english
There is no such thing as gun's or school's. UGH. Lose that dumb-assed plural apostrophe. Why didn't you put one in drugs?? You should know better seeing as you're older.
@@Schmoityface Sorry you misunderstood. He told us , everyone, except you. You are absolutely correct :there are no guns or drugs in schools!
Count me in on that.

My parents had the record and I heard it many times when I was around 5 or 6 years old. But this is the first time I have heard it in English. Nice lyrics.
Too bad school children don't have inspiring & memorable music like this today!❤
A beautul song that captures the beauty of faith.
This sound is a beautiful peaceful messege I keep getting this pop into my life and see myself humming it like a bird
I didn't know that there was an English version of this song. I only remember the original French version when it played on the radio and TV when I was growing up. Even in French it was such a catchy tune and I loved it whenever I heard it.
This is the version I learned at school in South Africa...way back in the mid sixties....i just love this song.....☺ BaieDankie.
translater... Esta é a versão que aprendi na escola na África do Sul ... em meados dos anos 60 ... eu simplesmente amo essa música ... BaieDankie.
Yes, this song went worldwide and inspired so many. The Sixties had a great variety of music hits, unlike today.
This is a great song DR sang in the movie......a really pretty ditty

This song has a Led Paul/Mary Ford feel to this.Since Mary Ford is singing, it's very excellent!
Great music, great song. Tragic for the real, “singing nun.”...
Beautiful
Yes it was
I dont know what happened. Love this song
@@scottlitteral8661 "On this day in ’85, the Singing Nun (Marie Jeanine Deckers) took her own life in a suicide pact with her life-partner, Annie Pecher. Her song, the 1963 smash 'Dominique', sold over 1.5 million copies, winning a Grammy Award for Best Gospel Song. As a kid, I remember Deckers and her 3 fellow nuns appearing on Ed Sullivan… The song was such a cultural phenom that a (mostly fictional) feel-good movie was made of her life with Debbie Reynolds, and Sally Fields' ‘The Flying Nun’ was definitely influenced by Decker’s popularity. Deckers was a Belgian singer-songwriter and a member of the Dominican Order as Sister Luc Gabriel. An unlikely pop star, she wrote 4 albums of songs - many that were lyrically either ‘approved’ or ‘censored’ by her Mother Superior. She was not allowed to write any songs that were considered ‘sad’ and, of course, any topic that was controversial was forbidden. When she wrote a song in 1967 defending the use of contraception, the Church pressured her touring mngmnt to cancel an entire tour even tho’ she’d left the order by then. Though the royalty agreement between the Church and Deckers was never disclosed, apparently her diocese received her royalties w/o her knowledge… and later, when she left the order, she discovered $100,000. had been paid to the Church unbeknownst to her. To make matters worse, her label, Philips, pretty much took the rest - leaving her financially crippled. Though Deckers never ‘came out’ about her sexuality, she spent most of her life with her lover, Annie Pecher, and struggling with financial ruin, Church condemnation, a faltering career, and repression from society in general… Deckers suffered a mental breakdown. Shortly afterwards, she and Pecher took their own lives in their Belgian apartment. For those who discount the damage religion has done for centuries to gay and lesbian people… to those who are, right now, passing legislation to forbid young people from discussing sexuality or even saying the word, ‘gay’… I say, ‘f you’. To those (religious or not) who support with words and deeds the acceptance of the LGBT community… I say, 'thanks', and may whatever god you worship bless and keep you.

Im listening this for the first time and Im surprise! Very beautiful song I really enjoy listening to this!
I can't believe it, when I was a boy a nun sung this song in my classroom, until today I didn't remember this song. Thank you very much to get me many other remembers from my childreness. Seriously many, many thanksfulnes.
You survived Catholic School?? LOL Lucky you.
Sadly this Sister was screwed by the Phillips recording company (financially) and she lost out on a lot of money. And she also committed suicide in 1985 - it broke my heart.
Childhood... :P
@@markphillips281 that is very sad and tragic. I remember seeing this movie as a child. I also remember seeing the original Singing Nun on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Always loved this song all these years. Never knew the words until I saw this video from the movie. Thank you so very much.
I love this song because it kinda fits me, as I travel telling people about the Lord!! Thank you Jesus!!!!!!!!!
It fits me too that's why I used Mary FORD'S English rendition. I had no idea this song talked so much about people who just talk about the Lord.
Well the verse I read at the end was one of my favorite old Testament scriptures. "THEY THAT FEARED THE LORD SPOKE OFTEN ONE TO ANOTHER ..."
Blessings brother
Me too! lol
Ja , embrace poverty . Praise the lard !!
I've always loved Dominique with Debbie singing , seems dominique has been around me first with the singing nuns in French well what can I say Dominique is one of my patron saints along with st Patrick and st Joan of ark oh what the , I love em all !
Mom bought the original song when it was on a 45 rpm. It was a very good song and still is and the movie is really good, too.
I first listen to this music back in 1963 in Tokyo.
I remember that song. It was a really big hit around the same time LOVE ME DO by THE BEATLES hit number one on the top 40 WABC AM charts.
I remember this movie fondly as a child.
I love this version too with a country sound to it. Nice.
I grew up with nuns they were all heavenly like these
Never knew the English words, makes this song sound even better.

Eu tinha dezesseis anos. Olha eu aqui relembrando essa música linda. 😍😍
I used to play this song on the piano and sing with it. I had gotten my own clock radio in 1964 for getting the perfect attendance award along with going mini golfing with an aunt and a cousin of mine
In 3rd grade I got perfect attendance and they forgot to recognize me and I cries because I had even wore a dress that day. The next day my sweet teacher awarded it to me in our classroom and they all clapped for me...
Linda música. Tempos maravilhosos que, infelizmente, não voltam mais.

How strange, I used to think this song was in a foreign language😄
Then again we used to listen to it on a transistor radio, yes I am that old😉
Actually the nun who Debbie Reynolds portrayed originally sang the song in French and the original release of the song was recorded in French.
It was in a foreign language. What I did is use a version I found in English and I was happy about the TRANSLATION. I think it is one of the reasons it has gotten so many surprised views.
