I was so in love with this song when I veas 10. I guess I should say that I'm now 70. I immediately fell in love with it when she appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. I learned all the words though I didn't understand a single one. 😊 I still don't, but it's such a happy sounding tune that I like to hear now and then. My music brain usually has put a song in my head when I wake up. Guess which one was in my head today? 😂😂😂

The Catholic Church does not allow reproductive freedom. Women should not be having 15 children. The poorer people are, the more children they have. If they cannot afford 2, they have 12.

"Dominique" became a worldwide hit in 1963 and was the first, and only, Belgian number one hit single in the American Billboard charts.
It is remembered chiefly for its refrain, which goes:
Domi-nique -nique -nique s'en allait tout simplement,
      Routier, pauvre et chantant.
En tous chemins, en tous lieux,
Il ne parle que du Bon Dieu,
Il ne parle que du Bon Dieu.
      A literal English translation is:
Domi-nique -nique -nique went about simply,
      a poor singing traveller.
On every road, in every place,
he talks only of the Good Lord,
he talks only of the Good Lord.
The lyrics of the chorus of Regney's English-language translation are:
Domi-nique -nique -nique, o'er the land he plods along,
      And sings a little song.
      Never asking for reward,
He just talks about the Lord,
He just talks about the Lord.

I bought her album with lyrics to every song in French and translated to English. They were all very special and always remembered and close to my heart. The singing nuns were banned by the mother superior because she said they broke the vow of humility cuz they became famous and I think the mother superior was jealous of their success. They only wanted to spread the word of God by music and rejoice in the beautiful songs that delivered faith, love and peace. I was very depressed when they stopped her from singing and put her away in a far away mission and out of the spotlight. No one heard from her since. After that I lost my faith from the Catholic Church. I’m just a Christian now that believes in God. Bless the nuns that are pure souls tortured like slaves. Back in my time we used to sing altogether in the old church and all our voices were like angels in Latin. Mass was in Latin too.

Not so delightfull, because all the royalties for this song were, by contract, captured by the Catholic Church, but the Belgian tax authorities claimed the unpaid tax arrears from Soeur Sourire directly. Driven by debt, she sank into depression and poverty and ended up committing suicide at the age of 51...

This song was released in 1963 and topped the Billboard chart , the same year when another foreign-language song “ Sukiyaki “ by Kyu Sakamoto made it to number one .
In 1958 , “ Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu “ , better known as “ Volare “, by Domenico Modugno was the number one song of the year the very first year the Billboard list was made . This Italian song even won the first-ever Grammy “ Song of the Year “ , and it remains the only foreign-language song to have done so .

Yes, It used to be you could turn on the radio and hear a LOT of diversity... REAL diversity. This was not a "diversity" forced on people by social engineers using the power of government. It was a Diversity that grew organically on its own. (It is a difficult thing to relate to today. Younger people cannot remember what they never experienced.)
And then along came Elvis and the Beatles, and before you know it, rock music had mowed the others flat. Now what do we have? We have different music INDUSTRIES. Each industry has its own radio station(s) and stars, and award shows, and people who consume what we will charitably call music.

This song comforted the people of the USA as they struggled to come to terms with the assassination of President Kennedy.

I remember this rather clearly, my mother playing the record following the assassination, though I only vaguely understood what that was. I was five years old and decided I wanted to be a nun so I could sing happy songs like this one.

Wenn ich dieses Lied höre bedauere ich, dass Französisch nicht die erste Weltsprache ist. Dieser schöne Klang. Einfach wunderbar.

I am just blown away by the number of comments here. This made the Top Ten Radio when
I was 13 in 1963. Then there was Mason Williams with his instrumental piece, "Classical Gas" the Top Forty Radio was very diverse in the sixties. People think it was just Rock and Roll.In 1969 the Edwin Hawkins Singers a Black gospel group crossed over to the Pop charts with their big hit "Oh Happy Day." Then in 1972 when I was camping out on the Hawaiian Island of Maui, the Staple Singers (another Black Gospel group) made a hit with "Respect Yourself."

"Sukiyaki" (Ue o Muite Arukou) was another top hit of 1963, and one of my favorites, though I could no more understand the lyrics than I could those of "Dominique" -- I've lived through those same years you experienced.

I've always thought the song was about two people who were walking through a park. But it is about St. Dominic. But it remains a beautiful song

The whole song is related to a teenager whose name was Dominique...

C'est fou. L'histoire réelle de cette femme est dramatique.
