It's a metaphor for accepting his destiny. Throughout the show, Clark struggled with coming to terms with who he was. He wrestled with the idea that he was Kal-El, the last son of Krypton. Never knowing who he was or what he was meant to do. By the end of the show, he was fully realized. He had discovered who was. This is the moment where he truly became Superman. He never doubted what he was able to do or what he was capable of, he feared it like he did his destiny. The only thing he ever doubted was who he was.
This is also very clearly shown in the episode Crusade. Clark was completely taken over by Jor-El. He has forgotten his life as Clark Kent. He knew who he was then. He knew his destiny. In Smallville they couldn't have different actors playing teenage Clark and adult Superman because Tom Welling was a 25 year old playing a 15 when it started.
One of the many things I liked about the show was that it wasn’t rushed to show Clarke just becoming Superman n the hero we love. It showed his struggle n him growing into that hero. We saw him fail (many times) but also battle with his own judgment to be a someone that would be a hero n saviour. Yes it annoyed me that we didn’t see that suit n stuff but o also love this scene as we see his journey n finally him fly as he fully embraces his destiny
Yeah, but the Lionel from Clark's world redeemed himself in more ways than one. He eventually became a truly good person. Unlike his son, who, ironically, started out good, and ended up evil. Pretty interesting, I think. Their roles reversed spectacularly~
Lex was damaged from the moment he was born. From the mental abuse he suffered from his father Lionel all his life. Seeing his mother abused by Lionel. His baby brother Julian dying. Throw in the fact that Clark(understandably so) couldn't tell him his secret. Lex really wanted Clark to be his brother but unfortunately we all know how that turned out. The constant lies and secrets kept from him. It's no wonder why Lex became evil. To add onto that the paranoia that the prophecy of Clark's journey as well. Lionel like you said kinda redeemed himself. But by the time that happened, the product of his ruthless parenting of Lex came back to haunt him. Ironically the only person that Lionel truly loved would ultimately be the one who kills him. In Smallville, the most sympathetic character has to be Lex Luthor. Like I said, from the moment he was born he never stood a chance.
In the end, Lionel became the vessel for Jor-El's essence. He didn't turn good, Lex killed Lionel when he pushed him off the roof of the Luthor building, which was when Jor-El's essence used his body as a vessel. If you actually watch the show you'd know how the story goes. LOL.

"It might be easier to hate, buts its stronger to love." Clark Kent - two minutes later flies straight into Lionel under DarkSieds controls and obliterates him. "Way to go with the whole, "hope and love" stuff.

If he wasn’t so afraid of heights and have gotten use to being high off the grounds, Then he would’ve been flying throughout the seasons of Smallville and that’s what I was expecting to see
11 years later, it still makes no sense that the "fight" between Clark and Darkseid is just Clark flying through him, which "kills" him. Also, if they had made Darkseid a physical being instead of a "demon", and if the show had done a part three of the finale, I would have loved to see a real fight between them.

Many complained we d8dnt get that close up of him in the suit. That when it was close, it was just his face. Remember, for 10 years Clark was the hero, not superman. After him saving the planet, he was going to be known as superman, and Clark was going to get to be himself. By showing the close ips of his face, and not getting to see him in the suit, it was Clark's last chance to be the hero. Also, for once in a superman show/movie, Clark was the center of it and not just supermans alter ego.

@@daveofsteel5246 how do you know he doesn't want to just retire, work on the farm, and raise his family?
I would’ve titled this video “Clark finally flies of his own will”
Yeah it was a great moment in my life :')
Somebody saaave Me!
And in mine
It was nice to know the character as much as the actor. Truly appreciate it.
It was always about accepting his Kryptonian heritage. Once he did that, flight was inevitable.
If he would’ve accepted his Kryptonian destiny earlier on Smallville, Then he would’ve been flying throughout the whole seasons
Smallville hasn't ended for me years later, I still want to see Welling as the man of steel. Yes I cried at this scene but I am forever grateful.
He's coming back for the big DC show crossover event.
Watch Arrow he's in the big Crisis on Infinite Worlds Crossover as Superman and Clark
Along with Brandon Routh and the Supes from SuperGirl series
(FYI Welling is the best 1 there...he makes the other 2 look like twigs)
In Smallville they couldn't have different actors playing teenage Clark and adult Superman because Tom Welling was a 25 year old playing a 15 when it started.
Like the musical chords from the Reeve Superman movie as a kind of segue from his past to his future.
Not to also mention if that was indeed Marlon Brando as Jor-El.
I loved Smallville. I'm watching the first season again on Prime Video in these days.
"LANA!" zash....
Every time I see this finale I always go back and watch the first few episodes
Where is this Clark when Lex needs him? "I believe even in the darkest soul there is always hope." BULL!!!!
Clark just needed to have faith in his own abilities to be able to fly
And then the Arrowverse cameo undid all of it.
You always had the power within you!
No sh*t
I met John Glover once at Starbucks in the city, he was pretty cool and very nice
clark didnt kill luther, he was already dead. Darkseid granted luthor's last wish, which was to save his son "lex" than he possesed him
He killed Wes and Titan
this is epic!!!
One of the many things I liked about the show was that it wasn’t rushed to show Clarke just becoming Superman n the hero we love. It showed his struggle n him growing into that hero. We saw him fail (many times) but also battle with his own judgment to be a someone that would be a hero n saviour. Yes it annoyed me that we didn’t see that suit n stuff but o also love this scene as we see his journey n finally him fly as he fully embraces his destiny
smallville made me see that clark kent is superman even without his suit
My favorite show and best tv series finale ever
The greatest show to ever be shown
Yeah, but the Lionel from Clark's world redeemed himself in more ways than one. He eventually became a truly good person. Unlike his son, who, ironically, started out good, and ended up evil. Pretty interesting, I think. Their roles reversed spectacularly~
well one was possessed by zod and controlled by brainiac and the other was possessed by clark and was a medium for jor-el
LOL.
@@DerekThomasLirio Lionel even after his connection to Jor-El was lost ended up being a good guy. He tried to give the key that would “control the traveler” to Clark and protected him (or tried to) many times. He also left a warning after he died.
@@henrytruong2596 There's no excuse for becoming an evil monster, what we do and who we become is entirely our own doing, we always have a choice how to react to the harm done to us whether good or bad.
"Surprised? So am I"
Jacob Nagler sky high :)
Jacob Nagler “You’re flying? That’s impossible!”
@@varunhans819 I never understood that line. Royal pain obviously knew who Will's parents were, and therefore knew his mom could fly. If the powers are genetic, like the nurse explained, then it's at least possible for him to develop two powers.
To think... he went through all that... 10 years becoming the hero we know and love.... Only to give up his powers and stay on the farm.
Sheldon: Look at smallville it took 10 seasons to see a man who i knew could fly, fly.
Sheldon: When you get goat powers don't make me wait 10 years to watch you eat a can
i cried during this scene
danm i remember it like yesterday, as i watched the series finally live, it actually brought a tear to my eye.
best show ever
I shouted in joy when I saw this scene on TV.
Man I can't believe this perfect ending was ruined by crisis we went from a 10 year journey to becoming superman to never mind I wanna be Clark again.
@Cer El thanks I was hoping crisis wasnt canon since it completely retcon this ending and the season 11 comics
@Cer El actually it is cannon
This takes place at the end if the superman jernamy
@Cer El honestly I haven't checked out the s11 comics
The thing about the clip is the fact that earth 167 that earth 168 would be the earth ultra man is in
And it just makes sense to have it be there
He gave up his powers once the justice league was there and he has saved the world
And honestly, yes he sold the farm
But it dose not shock me that he brought it back
@@eeveemaster8902 too many inconsistencies to be canno to Smallville.
@@fandomking8939 i don't really think so
Its just a nod
Should've had The Touch playing when he's floating in mid air "You've got the touch, you've got the power" .
I love and find it ironic that the voice of Jor El was done by Terrance Stamp. He played General Zod in Superman 2. I love how the CW tips the hat to the previous shows and movies by using the same actors but as different characters.
Clark saw his greatest moments, Lex saw his dark moments. Daamnn. I miss Smallville
this was the best series that already come in my life
Always hold on to Smallville!
"It might be easier to hate, buts its stronger to love." Clark Kent - two minutes later flies straight into Lionel under DarkSieds controls and obliterates him. "Way to go with the whole, "hope and love" stuff.
Silent Gamer2015 just cause you stand for hope and love doesn’t mean you don’t have to fight sometimes to protect and defend that hope and love
Lionel was dead. That was just his body being animated by Darkseid.
He flew through his body. I didn't know you could kill something that was already dead.
they built Clark up as "never kill" he even told the Legion to "preserve life, at all costs, NEVER KILL, NO MATTER THE CIRCUMSTANCE!"
he see's a possessed Lionel and kills him. Clark, you got a phantom zone, use it man, dont be a hypocrite.
@@AzguardMike He didn't kill him, he just destroyed the vessel. Lionel was already dead. Why would he put a dead body in the phantom zone?
The greatest super hero of all time.
He already knew how to fly he was afraid of heights an he never wore the suit
If he wasn’t so afraid of heights and have gotten use to being high off the grounds, Then he would’ve been flying throughout the seasons of Smallville and that’s what I was expecting to see

Thanks for the fast upload!
Still better than these other cw shows.
Those were magical times when this show was on....
Remember that intro...
11 years later, it still makes no sense that the "fight" between Clark and Darkseid is just Clark flying through him, which "kills" him. Also, if they had made Darkseid a physical being instead of a "demon", and if the show had done a part three of the finale, I would have loved to see a real fight between them.
Gracias.
Clark luthor ya volaron sin ayuda :v
Man Clark has saved so many people with his life and met greater poeple to make a great team
After 10 years he can finally fly!
He should’ve accepted his destiny earlier
Wow this part all to remember got me crying on his journey till the end
This series would be great on a premium network. Like with a good budget and better writing.
Still gives me shivers
Anyone Else Got Chills from Crisis on Infinite Earth's,and Came Here..
awesome use of camerawork at 4:14 making clark look huge, showing the shift in power as clark gets the upperhand :D
The best superhero series of all time 😢
Many complained we d8dnt get that close up of him in the suit.
Hi, just finished the show I hope Tom is in infinite crisis, cuz like Damn him and Micheal brought me chills, and when the "uthor" fell off on the company building and lex losing his memories you can't but think smallville did the origin story some nice edits *in that part* it was great binging the show
*I hope to see y'all again after binging the show again in the future, cuz I know I will*
@Nathan thank you kind sir
He is confirmed for the cross over yay
@@mightynemesis94 ye Excited so is lois now we just need rosenbaum's lex
Smallville is actually meant for me, the boy who learned to fly for his destiny
That was about time!
I was so excitied when I saw this!
I lost many of these to watch. Long story but I still loved em all.
Came back in Crisis he still didn't dawn the cape. Ofcourse he became a civilian but still Mor-No-vu could've given him his powers back saying "Tomorrow requires The Man of Tomorrow."
3:10 - I love that the instrumental score ramps up here as the number of saves Clark is being shown ramps up as well.
He always can fly he just was scared of heights
If he wasn’t, Then he’d been would’ve flying throughout Smallville
Jor-El: Kal-El you must learn to fly!
Clark: The production has not enough money...sorry dad
At 2:15. OMG! I love that part! The music!! Everything!!!!!
PURE AWESOMENESS!!!
this scene is fucking
cool
When I watched this the first time I cried. Please let us see him in the suit on Crisis.
