Great walk and what a wonderful piece of music history. Baker Street is one of my favorite songs. I remember when it was released in 1978. The saxophone rif is one of the best. I was very pleasantly surprised. Thank you Paul.👍

      Thank you Daryl!
Yes, apart from Baker Street many other musical classics were recorded within those walls.
Glad you enjoyed this little Cotswold trip.
      Cheers!

Thank you Paul.🙂 A long walk on a beautiful June day. ☀️🌳🌿🌳🌿🥾🥾 Thank goodness for beautiful countryside and villages.☀️ Sometimes it feels like there is so much urban sprawl and pollution in England.

      Thank you Cathy!
I have just returned from Cornwall - and, yes, sadly, you are absolutely right! Although I still like Cornwall, it is a vastly different place to the one that I knew from the early 1980s (gosh I know I sound old!) - loads and loads of new developments everywhere - and the traffic!!
This was a most enjoyable walk though; glad you enjoyed it too!
      Take care,
      Paul

Hello Paul - greetings from Poland
What a delightful video. Through all sorts of different sceneries and countryside. Lots to see and learn about. The green green grass of home comes to mind when I walk with you. The superb weather made it even more enjoyable.

      Thank you Michael!
I was sorry to hear about your dog passing away (Ron from Parkinson's Walks mentioned it) but good to hear about the kittens though. It really was a lovely walk on a beautiful day.
I am off to Cornwall for a couple of days but not filming this time.
Hope you have a great weekend.
      Take care,
      Paul

      Thank you Faith!
Yes, I didn't show my frustrations with myself for the walking and map reading errors that I made!!
However, it was a very enjoyable walk.
I particularly liked the tiny village/hamlet of Taston and its treasures and legends.
      Glad you enjoyed it too!
      Cheers,
      Paul

That was a long walk - I’m so glad you got the bus back & didn’t have to do it again.
I had never heard of Taston- I don’t think we’ve ever travelled on that road. I know Chipping Norton but haven’t visited for a few years. Silly I know I always marvelled at the size of the WHS! We have one where you can’t swing a cat & theirs is ginormous!
That was a lovely walk highlighting such beautiful English countryside- thanks Paul.
P.s. I liked the wave to camera you did earlier on- ‘fraid I waved back!

      Thank you Diana!
It was quite long, but very enjoyable.
I didn't go into the WHSmith shop but it did look quite large from the outside.
Yes Taston is quite a small place - I'd have to look at the map again to see how you get there via car and road. I found Thor's stone really interesting.
Thank you for watching...and waving 👋!
      Take care,
      Paul

Thanks again Paul, another brilliant video. Was walking in the Chipping Norton area last week so it was good to relive my time there. Well done to Peter Parker for keeping the Charlbury line open. My understanding is that the infamous Dr Beeching axed his own line where he lived in Forest Row Near East Grinstead. Really like the concept of doing walks using public transport. Takes some planning but adds to the fun of preparing routes.

      Thank you!
I will return to this topic in the Cotswolds from time to time, as not everyone has access to a car, or can't or (like me often) simply does not want to drive on our ever stressful and increasingly busy roads. I do try to mention public transport options, where possible, when making all of my videos.
So important that The Cotswold (& Malvern) Line remains fully open and has become more popular in recent years.
      Glad you enjoyed it.
      Take care,
      Paul

Great treck through some wonderful countryside. Thank you. I remember doing a circular walk from Charlbury via Chadlington and Spelsbury - though without a map - so I stuck to the road. Chipping Norton is an interesting town to wander around and I remember the woollen mill just before it was converted into flats. Sadly, the rail link was severed years ago, but the town is within reasonable walking distance of Kingham - the bus service takes an hour and involves a change of buses, I believe. Still, it's nice to see public transport links in the area seem to be reviving, not least around Charlbury - though insufficient to make a noticeable impact on the volume of car traffic in my experience.

      Thank you Malcolm!
Yes, I think Kingham is about five miles away. Judging by the horrendous problems with traffic in Chipping Norton it could still do with it's rail link these days!
Unfortunately, I ran out of time to walk down by Bliss Mill - I would have loved to have seen it too.
Thank you for watching and commenting.
      Take care,
      Paul

the mill is down by the old station which was on the Cheltenham to Banbury railway. Just up the road is the worlds last steam brewery at Hook Norton. caroline

Yes; unfortunately I did not have enough time to cover that on my trip today.
There is another RUclipsr, Ron, from @abandonedrailwaya2470 , who has covered the closed railway lines in the area around Chipping Norton a few times now.
      Cheers,

thanks for that Paul. Also my modelling friend Bob Brown hasco-written a history of that railway line . Also Ronny Barker the Actor had a family antique business in the town and one of the leading electric arm chairs used to have a factory there. The farm you mentioned is just off the Chippy to Burford road about a mile south of the town. caroline

Hi Paul, that was a lovely walk, really enjoyable to watch.
Very interesting to see that stone, and that fountain too, tucked away in the woods. Lovely fountain at Spelsbury too, shame it's no longer operational.
Those alms houses in Chipping Norton looked in wonderful condition, I wonder what they are like inside?
The sound recording was excellent too throughout, well done!!
    Have a great weekend!!

I certainly enjoyed the walk here.
I did spend a while trying to get the sound as best as I could on this one. Thank you for your kind comments.
Hope you have a great weekend too - I am currently in Cornwall with my daughter but not filming on this occasion.
      Cheers!

One of the almshouses doors were open when I walked past - looked very nice inside from what I could see.

    Dear Paul.
You seem to be a lonely traveler each time you take a train. It is not the first time.
A humorous question: Is British Rail a profitable company?
Don't worry, it is the same here in Canada.
I enjoy each of your video

    • @westcountrywanderings
      @westcountrywanderings  2 месяца назад +1

      Thank you Clement!
The trains are usually very busy - it just so happens that I filmed it on the train from Cheltenham to Worcester - an earlier train five minutes before the one I was on means that this one is usually quiet - it is quite a rare event!
We have an odd railway structure in the UK - it used to be BR - British Railways but that was broken up in 1990s into a myriad of private companies. The main company that runs the trains in the region that I cover on RUclips is GWR, but no connection to the GWR of old. There is also South Western Railway that goes to Weymouth and Exeter from London Waterloo and West Midlands Railway that covers parts of Worcestershire and Herefordshire. To complicate things one station in Gloucestershire, Lydney, is managed by Transport for Wales! The track is looked after by a separate public body called Network Rail. However these private companies, nearly all foreign owned, are now overseen by HM Government! You couldn't make it up! There is room for much improvement but I still prefer train to car - our roads are even more crowded than our trains! Driving standards are abysmal unfortunately.
Hope that adds (a little!) clarity to a complex set up!
      Glad you enjoy the videos.
      Paul
