I have already had a flat with my ID.4. Unfortunately it was on the sidewall and not repairable. I now have a non original tire in that location. I now also carry couple of cans of fix-a-flat as backup insurance.
The tire mobility set shown in your video is well hidden and I can find no place in the owners manual that shows its location.
Finally what is your opinion on run flat tires? At 75 years of age I've served my apprentice ship in changing tires and the like. I'd like the option of limping into my tire dealer and having them deal with the problem.
    Thanks - R Ball

Nice to know. Noticed I had a tire losing pressure when pulling off the highway to charge. Got the air pump out and connected it to the 12v outlet in the trunk and realized the outlet isn’t hot wired. Then jumped into the driver’s seat and pressed the power button on, but it went off every time I got out of the seat. Frustrated I just drove the car down the road with a soft tire to a tire repair shop and made it just in time before damaging the tire. I’m pretty sure the owner’s manual says nothing about holding the brake pedal down when pressing the power button. Not impressed with the ID.4 owners manual. Not too impressed with the knowledge my dealership has about the ID.4 either or VW offering some kind of resource for owners to go to. I will see if this really works about holding the brake pedal down while selecting the power button on to keep the power on when leaving the drivers seat when I get home next week.

Doug, thanks for the question. I don’t have access to the car anymore. Mac Volkswagen sold it. Not sure where your located or where your Volkswagen dealer is.I am sorry for your experience. I am making these videos for Mac Volkswagen In McMinnville Oregon. I can recommend them. If your not to far away. I can confirm that the car stayed on once I pressed the break and the power button at the same time. I was by myself when I made the video so no one was in the drive seat. I hope this helps out. Happy to answer your questions.
I’m sorry about your experience with the owners manual. I have 9 other videos on the ID4 I go quite in depth on things like Bluetooth, climate control, and navigation. Feel free to check them out. Here is the link.

You are a dealership. Use the sealant can to show how it should be done.

I did think that was ridiculous. Basically that part of the video was pointless. Using the sealant is the trickiest part and he didn't show us how to use it.

I am sorry, but a spare tire and wheel, even a 'temp' one is a necessity. The inflation pump and sealant may be fine for simple core tread area nail puncture, but useless if the tire and/or wheel is damaged by a curb, pothole or debris.

Can you believe it? Mine was removed the day I bought it. I live in Albania, I bought the car in Swiss🙁

No individual readouts of the pressure?

    • @macvolkswagentv7476

The 1St edition of the ID4 did not have individual readouts of tire pressure. I don’t know if they changed that in 2022.

That is because it doesn't have sensors in the wheel. It monitors for a difference in rotational wheel speed to identify a tire that has lost pressure.
This way you don't have the inconvenience of having to buy costly sensors for a set of winter wheels, or replacing sensors when the sealant has been used or batteries die after 10 years or so.
Pros and cons of each way, but German automakers have always favoured this type, and now some Asian automakers are doing the same.
True it costs the automaker less because they already have the required hardware and logic in place for stability control systems. But many car owners find it preferable too and are ok with using a gauge to check their pressures periodically.

You forgot to mention that you have to leave your key fob on the driver's seat.Orherwise the pump will not work.

Technically you cannot rotate the tires because the front tires are of a different size than the rear.

Thanks for the comment. You are absolutely right. Good catch and thanks for pointing this out. I did not even think about it when I made the video.
The 2021 Volkswagen ID4 1St Edition that I used to make this video has 235/50R20 front tire and a 255/45R20 rear tire
I suppose you could still swap the tires from one side to the other every 5000 miles, but you should not rotate them.

It’s a common trend now with newer cars not including a spare tire, & targeting younger buyers who don’t know how to change one. Some hate it, some don’t care 😬

It seems ridiculous in this day and age that ID4 doesn’t have a TPMS display for each wheel. My past ICE diesel cheating VWs had TPMS display 15 years ago. Pity the video could not show the vital piece about howto use the sealant. It’s cheap and nasty not to have 4 wheel TPMS display, and an inconvenient hassle to get out of car on a wet day and check pressure of four wheels to diagnose leaking wheel. Dirty too and unsafe.
