Volkswagen ID.4 - Crash and Safety Test

The 2021-2022 Volkswagen ID 4 received the maximum rating of 5 stars at the Euro NCAP crash test.
Compared to the smaller ID.3, the ID.4 hold more appeal for family buyers wanting more space, and potential owners will be reassured with high marks in child occupant protection, as well as for the protection of vulnerable road users and for safety assistance. VW also fit Local Hazard Warning as standard equipment on the ID.4.
TEST RESULTS
The passenger compartment of the ID.4 remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings showed good protection or adequate for all critical body regions of the driver and passenger. VW showed that good protection would be provided also to the knees and femurs of occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions. Analysis of the deformable barrier used in the frontal offset test revealed a small area of high deformation. However, the deceleration profile of the trolley on which the barrier was mounted showed that the ID.4 would not be an aggressive crash opponent. In both the side barrier and side pole tests, the car provided good protection to all critical body regions and scored maximum points. Occupant excursion in a far-side impact was rated as weak. The ID.4 has, as standard, a centre-mounted airbag which protects the driver and front passenger from hard mutual contact in the event of a side crash. Euro NCAP's test showed that the airbag offers good protection for the heads of the front occupants. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric analysis of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection.
In both the frontal offset test and the side barrier test, the ID.4 provided good protection to all critical body areas of both the 6 year and 10 year dummy, and scored maximum points in this part of the assessment. The front passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be fitted in that seating position. Clear information is provided to the driver regarding the status of the airbag and the system was rewarded. All of the child restraint types for which the ID.4 is designed could be properly fitted and accommodated in the car.
The protection provided to the head of a struck pedestrian was good or adequate over most of the bonnet surface, with some poor results recorded only on the stiff windscreen pillars. The bumper provided good protection to pedestrians' legs at all test locations. Protection of the pelvis was good or adequate at all points tested by Euro NCAP. The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system of the ID.4 can detect pedestrians and cyclists. In tests of its response to such vulnerable road users, the system performed adequately, avoiding or mitigating collision in most test scenarios. The ID.4 cannot detect pedestrians to the rear of the car and AEB-reverse tests were not performed.
The ID.4 has a speed assistance system as standard. This uses a camera and digital mapping to determine the local speed limit and the driver can choose to allow the system to adjust the speed automatically. A seatbelt reminder is standard for all seating positions. A fatigue-detection system monitors driver alertness and issues a warning if impaired driving is detected. Lane assistance warns the driver if the car is drifting out of lane and gently corrects the vehicle path. The system also intervenes more aggressively in some more critical situations. The AEB system performed well in tests of its response to other vehicles, with collisions avoided or mitigated in almost all scenarios.

I notice the side airbags even go off on frontal collisions which is uncommon but good that vw is doing that. Extra protection from outdoor flying objects.

If safety features would work as well as in an Volvo XC 60 recharge, yes. In an ID 4 it does not work 100 % as you can see. After dieselgate and rental options for car features (which you already played for) coming in 2014 I would not buy an VW even it would be the only car maker in the world.

If deployed with a rear facing child seat, the airbag would most likely snap it to pieces. Incorrect seating position of the front riders could also cause suffocation and injury to the rear passengers if an emergency occurred.

I don't understand why they even bother with the head on crash test anymore considering if a car does well in the 40% and 25% small overlap test it will by default do well head on. And head on collisions are far less common and less likely to cause serious injuries vs a small overlap were crash energy is concentrated in a smaller area.

Ein Elektroauto hat 2 Stromkreise. Einen 12 Volt Stromkreis (genau wie jedes Verbrennerauto) und einen Hochvolt-Stromkreis. Im Falle eines Crash schaltet sich das Hochvoltsystem sofort ab, das 12 Volt System aber bleibt aktiv damit Warnblinker und Lichter noch funktionieren. Dies dienst dazu das Fahrzeug bei Nacht möglichst zu beleuchten damit dich nicht zur Krönung noch einer rammt.

I've had the ID4 for a few days now and the car annoys me to no end. Yes, it's very fast and very comfortable and very spacious. The sound system is also fantastic. But it annoys me so much that I get out of the car stressed. I previously had a Peugeot 508 SW. If it had the chassis and the music system and the electric motor, it would have been my dream car. I feel unsafe in the ID4, it's also much too wide. Almost had an accident today because the ACC didn't brake automatically. Whether the car would have intervened at the last second is questionable. You can put a positive spin on a lot of things, but this car should not be sold. Perhaps nerds and computer scientists or similar technology enthusiasts will be happy with it. I don't like the car.

Ich hab den ID4 seit ein paar Tagen und das Auto nervt mich ohne Ende. Ja er ist sehr schnell und sehr Komfortabel und sehr geräumig. Die Soundanlage ist auch traumhaft. Aber er nervt mich so das ich gestresst aussteige. Hatte vorher einen Peugeot 508 SW. Hätte der das Fahrwerk und die Musikanlage und den Elektromotor gehabt, wäre das mein Traumauto gewesen. Im ID4 fühle ich mich unsicher, er ist auch viel zu breit. Heute fast einen Unfall gehabt weil das ACC nicht automatisch abgebremst hat. Ob der Wagen in letzter Sekunde eingegriffen hätte ist fraglich. Man kann sich ja vieles schönreden, aber dieses Auto sollte nicht verkauft werden. Vielleicht werden Nerds und Informatiker oder ähnlich Technik Begeisterte damit glücklich. Ich mag die Kiste nicht.
