But years of "core work" only made my lower back and neck tighter (my lower abs never got sore). The lower back can inhabit the lower ab muscles, and then the neck takes over for the lower core - creating a vicious cycle.       @@justinaplaxton9900 hi there - I have archived the SPI course forever, so it is no longer available. I've also stopped teaching self fascia release courses altogether. My free videos on RUclips have helped a lot of people (as you can see from the comments section), but after 5 years teaching self fascia release courses I learned that most of the people joining my courses were dealing with chronic pain that they were unable to resolve with my free videos.
      Chronic pain really needs to be addressed at an individual level, because every person in chronic pain is experiencing pain for different reasons having to do with their fascia, their nervous system, their subconscious mind, beliefs, traumas, sports, injury history etc.
      Most of the people who joined my SPI course, for example, felt overwhelmed by the information, confused by their results in weeks 1 and 2, and frustrated that they weren't getting out of pain right away. I'm actually unaware of a single person who resolved their pelvic instability by using my course. While I did provide all the necessary information for people to do so, it took me 8 YEARS to aggregate and understand all of the information I put into that course and this is my profession. Pelvic instability is an incredibly complex phenomenon. Chronic pain is another complex phenomenon. Most people are unable to resolve these things on their own at home, even with step by step video guidance. This was true for me too - that's why it took me 8 years to figure this out for myself. I tried to get help, but none of the practitioners I went to understood this complex phenomenon or how to resolve it. So I figured it out on my own but it took a long time.

My actual pain in my back started after giving birth to my still born daughter, so along with the traumas I had already had in that region, I believe this was possibly the straw that broke the camels back (no pun intended!) But never once has a professional addressed the possibilities that you have and I really really appreciate you just putting the possibility out there that there’s a different way to look into.     My neck is tight for many reasons, but one is because I tense my shoulders, being on alert mode, not relaxed. Being tense signals the mind that there's danger, thus the mind creates a reason to explain the bodily sensations, and we're caught in a stress loop.

    Wow, you hit all my weak spots. Check, check, check. What a dynamic inter-relational body imaginiation of why my body is what it is! My neck ischronically tight and feels blocked, low back tilt, weak core muscles, being belted as a child and falling endlessly on my butt on hard ice on the skating rink. and the list goes on. I've been to a chiropractor many times and he couldn't figure why within seconds of adjusting my spine - from atlas to coccyx it would go right back out of alignment. He'd adjust it repeatedly and it would never hold. This helps me understand: it's the tight fascia and unprocessed trauma - both physically and emotionally.     I just had rectocele surgery and before the surgery, I had nearly constant neck pain. Since the surgery, not only did I notice the neck pain was gone, but my abs feel and look contracted. I've been doing all kinds of "core exercises" for years ( I did have undiagnosed rectocele during that time ) with no noticeable results. It is obvious the surgery corrected a posterior tilt and activated my lower abs which de-activated the neck muscle compensation. This lower ab activation did require the surgery to correct the spinal alignment of the pelvis but I absolutely understand that adhesions/scar tissue in the fascia can keep the skeleton out of alignment ( your tail bone scar tissue ) and I just love your work. I am a massage therapist and a yoga instructor and your information will take my work to a whole new level. Thank you so much!

    Not me finally realizing that all those times grandma said, "be careful, all those times you hurt yourself but think it's nothing, unfortunately you'll see the repercussions when you get older".     Wow, you are amazing answering so many of the same questions that I’ve had over the years I’m 73 years old two years ago I fell on my tailbone. I had five blood clots go up my leg and I couldn’t move for a month on top of that, I have scoliosis and poly myalgia. Oh my God it’s a lot but I sure do love your videos make me understand a lot more what’s going on in my body thank you so much.

    Wow! You’ve really connected the dots for me! I had a tailbone injury as well as other things on the list, and as I’ve been slowly healing myself over the years, I have seen these connections play out. I didn’t know about neck tightness and grip strength, which definitely affected my work as a jeweler for many years. I still have tight muscles in my hands and arms from the compensations! Thank you for what you do - I am so appreciative!

    I've been in three car accidents in the span of 10 years, along with two 2 c sections in the last 6 years.
    This all makes so much more sense as to why im constantly stiff and achey all over!

    Yes to all of it! Busted tailbone 2x ( Horse & Snowboard) and it's been brutal upper shoulder and neck issues. A physical therapist definitely mentioned the back curve and grip. This really ties it all together, Thank You! ❤

    Gosh! I've been using my neck to compensate for the disconnection deep within my pelvic region for circa 30 yrs. It didn't inhibit my movement massively but the root cause is still there to be addressed. I was getting to the connection between pelvis & neck but your video has really crystalised everything and I've gone from 2nd gear to 5th gear with your help, thank you Elisha ❤😊

    I had a chiropractor tell me that my neck pain/constant tension in neck/shoulders/upper body is related to my birth because they pulled me out with forceps. That was a big shock to my nervous system. So I literally hold tension in my neck/shoulders due to that trauma of my head being pulled to bring me into this world. It actually made a lot of sense to me.

    I've been dealing with concussion symptoms for a year and half and eternally tight neck and nothing has helped long term. But after watching this, I went to my osteopath and he was like, yeah, it looks like your sacrum is really tight. So hopefully we'll solve this mystery soon!

    I've also had the thought that my tight neck, which I already know contributes to things like burning eyes and tinnitus, as also causing lower IQ because of less blood flow. It just makes sense.

    I have most of the symptoms in your 1st sentence..
    I thought it was from a neck injury playing rugby at school in the 80s.
    Maybe it is.
    Still got the symptoms tho.
    Getting acupuncture atm.
    I too work out, yoga, surf.
    Paddling a surf board puts massive strain on lower back.

    Thank you that was really interesting and I can tick a number of the list of events which may have led to neck pain - I'm a horse rider, and damaged my coccyx as a child falling off, sexual trauma as a child, compacted vertebrae in my neck in my 20's, abdominal surgery in 2017, and bad posture when working at a computer etc etc. I am also a retired Military officer, so I am an "endurer' "no pain no gain" and now trying to undo the affects of that. - I am currently trying to release the tightness in my neck but also in my hips and pelvis area - so your video above was really informative - thank you again for your knowledge and inspiration x

    Your story sounds like mine in a few ways. I'm also on a TVA journey that is compensated by my neck. Sooo frustrating not finding solutions, but finally I think I'm onto something good with fascia.

      The body holds so much for us, always compounding what would otherwise be purely physical issues. In my particular case, my neck was involved in helping me "bite my tongue" and "shut my mouth" aka not speaking my truth, inability to set boundaries, say "NO" etc.

    Scar tissue in my pelvis is not something I've ever considered! Interesting theory. I've played many sports and I'm sure at some point in my teens I've fallen on my ass on the ice. In this moment my mind is saying that perhaps the reason I'm so good at staying up, not being able to be pushed over, and never falling when skating (as an adult) is not because I have superioir balance and skills (altho that for sure contributes), but from a fear of the pain of a repeat fall, and so my body contracts really well to protect against the fall. Dunno if that is logical, but my mind just suggested it.

    Super informative and helpful video. I have seen so many doctors and practitioners about my neck pain and tension, with no positive results. Elisha do you think hypermobility can be a cause of neck tension? My hips and shoulders are very flexible and my lower back is always arched. Since being a child I never seem to have engaged my core, rather compensating through misaligned postures. Thank you!

      Hi Alicia. Yes, as a hypermobile person myself, I do believe this can contribute to being injury prone and/or lead to compensatory muscle tightness. Having said that, I don't think there's a strong correlation between hypermobility and neck tension specifically. Since you've noticed your core isn't engaged, I think it's more likely that your neck has taken over to stabilize your spine due to a lack of deep core activation and/or a lack of intra-abdominal pressure (this is what happened to me, and I see this in many of my clients). There may be a connection to the hypermobility, but I don't think it's the major cause.
      Also, for what it's worth: in myself and many of my clients with this issue (I would say the majority, most of whom are women, but not all) there is also sexual trauma in our history. I know for me personally, this is the primary root cause of my lack of muscle activation in my lower abdominals, compounded by other injuries like falling on my tailbone.

Do you recommend any particular way to access possible repressed memories/trauma or identifying the cause of my issue (eg kinesiology)? I did have falls when I was younger, although none stand out as terribly serious. Since reading your message I have done some research that talks about the brain causing us to forget any incident or abuse that is too much for us to process, especially if it occurred during childhood, so this is a possibility too.

      @@AliciaFoxPhotography - my philosophy is that whatever we're ready to remember, we will. And it's best not to make up stories that aren't true, while also being open to whatever wants to reveal itself to us. My favorite way to do this is with the body, through feelings: when you do fascia release, feel your emotions, sensations, instincts, impulses and intuitions. Those are soul elements alive within our body ready to reveal something to us about our subconscious inner nature. Sometimes, people have emotional releases (with or without memories attached). Sometimes, people have memories arise (with or without emotion). The most healing energy we can cultivate is openness. Presence to "what is." 💛

    Beautiful. ... my core is like a mine field of truggerpoints. My xpiod process feels like the problem. Off to massage/ sport therapist tomorrow. Yes to 3 or 4 or more if the questions. My frien is an ostiopath and doesnt sat a lot.when i massaged lower rib fassia it helped my neck on the same side. I have my abdominal area tore up hopefully i will get some temporary relif tomorrow. Reki session last week and my pelvic area was so so.

    I definitely felt my neck straining in the test 100%… I have a question though: I often feel my hip flexors being used and even hurting during abdominal exercises - is that also related to PI?

      Hi Sinead - YES. The hip flexors can definitely get recruited during abdominal exercises. Although a lot of abdominal exercises DO engage the hip flexors as well, but they should be supporting muscles not the dominant players in those exercises. You said your hip flexors hurt while doing this, so it sounds like they could be feeling overworked and strained.

    12/2022: Hello, I am very interested. What do I see, not so much pain... I dont know if it stops me from functioning clearly but what I see./experience is this (not neck or arm pain)
    1. I cannot stand "bleeding brakes" on a car, aka lifting my head from a supine position.
    2. I got in a Natisus machine about neck and I "instantly" got the same "pissed off" feeling that happened when I bled the breaks. Stop the exercist and the pissed off immediately vanished. - This was maybe 20 years ago and I never...
    Even though I "know a lot" your video had a lot of info and I will have to listen again and try things to see if I can make the connection.
    Here'sn interesting note. Occasionally I get severe cramps/pain in my fingers, in between the first and second joints, not in the joints. stopps me form gipping ofr sure. What helps is doing arm circles, arms straight out, a circle of say 10 inches, and then in the other direction. I got for 40 in each direction. Nice easy fix.

    It sounds like exercise won't help. Only finding out the root cause ans addressing it will help. I don't see how an online course and group zoom calls could actually do that. Pardon me if this seems negative, but I'm being sincere... Love the information, just seems like its so highly personalized and needs direct physical contact and an online course and group zoom calls aren't condusive for it? But grateful for this info!

    Does this also contribute to standing up too fast and eyes going black or spotty?
    I have learned that if I engage my lower abbs and obliques, I can quickly reduce or negate the symptom.
    If I understand correctly, this would also apply to the blood leaving properly when bending over.

    This is something I'm really curious about: I'm most likely not going to be able to join the call tomorrow (I'm an early bird!) because of the timing, but I think I always had weak lower abs. No matter how much I dieted or exercised my lower belly is always a bit jelly - now, that isn't my main concern, but I wonder whether how we look and where we accumulate flabbiness can reveal something about the underlying structures.
    I have a memory about feeling awful pain to my left hip when I was a child, thinking it was growing pains and, ages later, during a women's health visit (for pelvic weakness and slight incontinence after childbirth) and the physio examined me inside and said the pelvic floor was weaker on the left side. My whole life I had a tight neck, and I tend to lean forward a bit and both my parents have as well. I tend to get pain in the muscles near the spine only on the neck.
    Years ago (in 2014) I hurt my right knee running. Nothing like a fall: it just made awful noises and hurt a lot. I was told to rest for weeks and as I lay on a sofa (that seems to tilt upwards and is too long for me, but I struggled to get upstairs) I realised both knees and ankles were really creaky. After I recovered, years later, I still couldn't get my LEFT knee not to hurt (on the outside).
    This is all a huge puzzle to me and I hope that whether I manage to join further calls (a couple seem to be at a doable time for me) or not I can solve the puzzle. I seem to work backwards but always stop making sense of things as I chase my pain towards my left hip. When that hurts, my left shoulder really hurts too (around the rhomboid, I believe) and I'm lost. Plus, if I can mitigate the pain in the left leg, the right pain in the knee that I felt years ago suddenly comes back! Mysterious!
    Sorry for the long comment! I think it's as much me rambling and exposing my findings so far. :) I'm hoping that the course can help me troubleshoot and find the right way to activate muscles that don't work and perhaps help friends and family too! Your biceps technique already seemingly stopped a migraine in its tracks for my husband, so I'm going to wear my detective cap and get along for the ride!

    I was wandering yesterday why my lower to mid back muscles were tensing so much from a different abb exercise that was just lifting the shoulders and head up a little.
    Why though would the lower back engage to compensate... Just to stabilize the pelvis/spine?

      A lot of my videos talk about the root causes of pelvic instability and provide self fascia release techniques that you can use to figure this out on your own. It is, however, a pretty complex issue that usually requires some sleuthing to identify prior injuries, compensations, lifestyle habits, sports etc that are creating the imbalances that lead to pelvic instability. And, it also requires that the muscles offline (usually the glutes and deep core) get activated again. This is the trickiest part, and unfortunately there are not a lot of people who know how to do this well. I spent 10 years looking for someone to help me, and in the process learned a lot that I now use to help others. I still haven't found anything to help me completely solve the deep core issues, but I have hope they are out there.

      Yes, absolutely. Any abdominal surgeries can lead to inhibited core muscles and the neck (and/or other muscles) taking over.

    Watching several of her videos, if she could QUICKLY get to the point and THEN tell all those great stories it would be GREAT. OMG exhausting She asks a *pointed* question in her titles but her acutely VIDEO rambles EVERYwhere but is anything but pointed and clear as the video title implies.
    👉 Could you in future, get STRAIGHT to your answer DIRECTLY acknowledging your specific question without just USING rambly STORIES to answer them. JUST ANSWER the question AND THEN expound on that with your stories. I've watched several videos intently and find myself straining in the middle of the videos and throughout listening to insightful information but lost in stories straining to actually hear in it the answer to the video title itself. I really believe people have just gotten exhausted following these and that you would have had a much higher viewer number over time if you addressed this. Actually i just realized you don't get to the point with a point of action because you're selling your services. i just don't see any action for us to take in the videos, just an offer to purchase her service. why not do both? 😢 click bait?😢
