One Word, WoW, I believed I couldn’t work on music once I severed the tenons in my left index finger, thanks for showing me I could continue my passions!! 😎🤘🏼🎼🎙🎸🎹🎻🎺🎷🥁🎵🎶
Wow ....thank you sooo much for this ....i have tried to understand how to work with garage band , but since my musical knowledge is very poor , so thank you very much . Most helpfull . All the best to you . Stay safe . 🥰😜🤩😛
I sort of kind of knew most of this but I would NOT have been able to put it all together like that. (I didn’t know about the techniques on the strings. Cool.). Liked the change from acoustic to electric for the chorus, too. And addicting in percussion to swap out the drummer for certain sections is great. I will definitely watch this again. THANKS!
Top instructor and being a studio musician, sound engineer, with your special touch of humor and great outlook differentiates your GarageBand tutorials from the rest. Thanks for enabling me to enter a new dimension in my musical creativity. And I agree, GarageBand is a fantastic tool with endless possibilities.
Thanks Dan, that was super helpful. Like others here, I had no idea about the 1, 2 or 3 finger-touch effect on the instrument strips. This video has really helped me re-think my music writing process too. 👍🏼
Hi Dan, I’m loving your style of presenting it’s really easy to absorb the great content. I’ve picked up some valuable pointers and I’ve only watched a few of your videos. I’d just like to pass on one tip I’ve learned along the way, when recording into a rack from the smart instruments you can queue up the Instrument prior to tapping record. So if your starting with a C chord tap it and then tap record and it will come in at the precise moment so you don’t miss any notes. 👍🏻 thanks again and keep up the great work.
Just found your channel Dan, and this is brilliant. Just watching your workflow and your very clear and concise explanations of song creation is inspiring. Thanks for this great content!
Holy smoking news! I had no idea after all this time that auto play was controllable by multiple fingers. I'm going to have to try all the fingers and all the numbers again now!
Thanks Dan! I really like that you use GarageBand. I'm just starting out recording and this is simple enough to understand. I like you teaching style as well. Great stuff!
I am new to GarageBand and this video has opened up the program for me. Dan, with your musical talent, your wit and your skill in using GarageBand you are very instructive and entertaining. I look forward to viewing all your videos and learning how to use GarageBand a most powerful musical tool. (BTW, I have been making music on a computer since the "Apple IIe" in 1981. Boy has it got FAR more simpler.) Thanks!!
GarageBand is a great tool for everything music and it’s an amazing app to create something from virtually nothing in minutes to a complete song. In addition from syncing the iPhone, iPad to the Mac is another great option as well
Wonderful, clear explanations, even just to teach how finger touch control works with various instruments, even before showing how to put a song together. Great Stuff beautifully explained. THANKS !!!
DAN. I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED GARAGE BAND TWO MONTHS AGO. YOUR TUTORIALS ARE PERFECTLY SUITED FOR MY JOURNEY INTO RECORDING. I HAVE SET UP A HOME STUDIO AND AM HAVING A BLAST WITH HOW YOU EXPLAIN GARAGE BAND,MUSIC THEORY. JUST DAMN GLAD I DISCOVERED YOUR BRAND AND THOUGHTFUL PRESENTATION AND YOUR SKILL AS A TALENTED MUSICIAN....NOT TO MENTION YOU ARE PRETTY DAMN FUNNY TOO BOOT. THANKS MUCH. DENNIS GALLAGHER
Never knew about the auto play function with multiple fingers. Always did one finger at a time. Thanks for this indispensable info, Dan! Your tutorials are too notch 👌🏽. Cheers. 🇺🇸🇲🇽
You can go in and edit the chords in the various touch instruments to add 7, 9, 11 chords. You can also do things like add an extra chord that isn’t in the key (Like E maj in the key of C or B major in the key of G, etc) in place of the little used diminished chord in each key. You could also get “tricky” and leave the basic triads in place but then add the note needed for 7, 9, 11, 13, whatever in the bass line or in another instrument and achieve the chord that way. Cheers
This is great! and the 1st video that I have seen that makes me feel like I can actually make some music in Garage Band that is unique. I'm just looking to make background music for my own videos.
thank you for your effort. now i can see how to move around in the ios garage band. it is much easier than the imac especially on the chording and pattern. next, will try and transfer the file on imac for better editing. the iphone i am using is super easy to create the melody. thanx again.
Hey man, loved this tutorial, and your accent it reminds me of a British tv show, cant remember which but it draws you in, please keep this type of content up.
You are so brilliant, why have I only found out about you now? I wish I met you like 10-15 years ago, I'd be a pro studio musician crankin' out tons of songs by now!
Garage band is cool but I don't know if it's the best tool, best free tool maybe. Isn't logic the older sibling of garage band and very affordable? I guess if you are into iPad only then it makes more sense. Good video. You make a great case for garage band because you know what you are talking about. One very cool thing about garage band is how much you can do. Great synth, interesting drum module, loops like crazy, on and on. I like your videos because it teaches me about music in general, which is always valuable.
Awesome thank you so much Dan! At 21:13 you talked at the same time as recording. For some reason all my tracks are linked to my iPad's inbuilt mic, so it records whatever ambient sound is going on. How do I stop this please? Thanks
Thanks man,.... Raj’s Indian girlfriend from Big Bang Theory maybe one of very few people who confesses to not liking any music lol,.... how do you know all these tweaks, do you work for Apple or have you attended any of their in store sessions?
garageband is better than any videogame. thanks to the talented dan baker, he's made it very fun for me.
Perfect Dan! That really helped. Quick and dirty in an understandable language. 🙏
One Word, WoW, I believed I couldn’t work on music once I severed the tenons in my left index finger, thanks for showing me I could continue my passions!! 😎🤘🏼🎼🎙🎸🎹🎻🎺🎷🥁🎵🎶
wow. Kept me engaged throughout the whole video. Awesome tutorial. Thank you.
Great video!
I use this software piece for more than ten years and still been able to catch interesting things in your presentation.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks Andy - that’s the thing with GB for iOS - it constantly reveals surprises...
Dan you are great presenter thanks
Dan, I love your videos! You are my personal teacher for Garageband! Thanks!
Cheers Luis! Thanks very much for watching...

Thank you Dan, learned some thing I did not know! Can you do major or minor 7th chords.
You can go in and edit the chords in the various touch instruments to add 7, 9, 11 chords. You can also do things like add an extra chord that isn’t in the key (Like E maj in the key of C or B major in the key of G, etc) in place of the little used diminished chord in each key.
