- Jamming with a cassette backing track - those were the days, unless of course you wanted to change key, tempo or rhythmic feel...
However, with GarageBand, you can do all that and more, using your iPad or iPhone as the ultimate practice tool.
Also in this video is a bit of blues guitar soloing, with an overview of solo structure..
The backing track created on this video is also on my channel (or at least it will be in a few minutes!), here:

A real gem. 4 years old now and as relevant and useful as ever.
Thank you... very generous with your information. You’ve got a ton of talent and you’re so likeable mate - you make us all feel like we can do it, and that’s a gift.
Dan, your tutorials are not only useful but inspirational. Many thanks for your great contribution to the working and oftentimes struggling musician.
I happened across your channel earlier today and have started digging through your back catalog. I'm a hobbiest who fancies himself a multi instrumentalist with an under-used home studio, and your content is amazingly helpful and inspirational. I don't comment on RUclips videos but I'm hoping to help bump you up on the ol' RUclips Al Gore rhythms. You got a new subscriber; I hope you keep the tutorials coming!
Masterfully done sir.
Blimey - The Blues start to finish in 12 minutes. Excellent!
I am nearly speechless...your videos are consistently outstanding.

You have a gift for explaining things in a simple, straightforward way that was easy to digest the first time around. Thank you again. I of course liked this video and subscribed too so I can go check out whatever else you may have graced the interwebs with. Hope you are well and having a great day or evening as the case may be.

Nice Video. Thanks for the tips. I'm just leaning and having fun right now. I'm a senior citizen with the hart of a teenager. I love R/B and Jazz. Doing it on my iPhone 6s. I'm a subscriber. My first two songs are on my RUclips channel. Made them for my friends to get a kick out of them. I'm working on getting better at it. 🍺👍
Nice. Thank you.
Thanks Darrell!
Thanks a lot
Hi Sir,any possibilities sharing any of your garageband projects ..really one to dig how it was done also a joyful season. Thanks a lot
Or.... you could make them and put them on You Tube and I could play to those! Thanks Dan!
Thanks Dan
Mr1Sundaymorning no worries! Glad you enjoyed the video...
my god, i have a ipad for years and never used !
thanks
It’s so good, this GarageBand lark!
I'm getting back to guitar. This is exactly what I wanted to find! I already have the iPad. Now I'm wondering if it will play this through a bluetooth speaker.
Nice! Should be fine through a Bluetooth speaker...
Great! Can you import a backtrack from a completely different source and still rework it like that?
Amazing DAN, Thanks ! What Key/mode you were soloing on?
Hi there, I use mixolydian here, on whatever chord I’m on. A mixolydian , d mixolydian, and e misxolydian. Essentially it’s a major scale but with a flattened 7th degree. A major is A B C# D E F# G# A, so A mixolydian is the same but with a G instead of a G#.
Thanks for the video. just an observation but as a complete beginner, I can't see exactly how you are doing each task i.e creating loops etc. Are you assuming the participant already has this knowledge?
thanks
Hi there-thanks for watching and sorry for assuming knowledge-I have made many other films on iOS GB, and I hope that one of those may clarify.
Can I install RUclips backing tracks on GarageBand
I just want to record my guitar on GarageBand using RUclips backing tracks
Can I install ANY BACKING TRACKS ON GARAGEBAND BESIDES GARAGEBAND BACKING TRACKS?
Why are there no markings on the velocity sliders?
that was brill. how to output sound from ipad?
michael robbins I plugged the iPad output into my recording equipment for making the demo, using a mini jack to two phono RCA jacks.
Thanks for watching!

And always remember to shut off the metronome!
Yes: the dreaded metronome! Gets under one’s skin....
I want to play like that😠
Easy show me.
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to uncover jazz backing tracks try Jadonite Guitar Blues Buddy (just google it ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my brother in law got great success with it.
IReal pro is good too. I do restaurant jazz guitar gigs with it
Not for a beginner I guess
I reckon it can be for a beginner, especially if you just want drums and simple bass with held chords. On GarageBand, one can specify any chord type with the smart instruments, and then using auto-play to create the necessary rhythms, either with straight or swing feels..
music without musicians these days,,started in the 70"s when every pub had a band playing, then came the disco, and the DJ now there are top10 music without any musicians getting any work,,its all programing, cheating in my world,,but then when i learnt (with twisted disabled hands that didant even open) we had to work songs out from the record..music is dying now, half the greats wouldant get anywhere now as they didant look sexy enough, song writers have no value now either,so "real" music ended by the end of the last century
