  • Ian Hill retired his vintage Jazz bass decades ago and now exclusively rocks his signature Spector models. He brings along four of them and strings them up with DR Black Beauties strings. Two of the quartet use the BKB 50 set (.050-.070-.090-.110) and are tuned down a half step. The other two use the lowest four strings of a 5-string set (.065-.085-.105-.125).

    Ian is a bass player’s bassist. Solid low ender with impeccable timing.
    I read somewhere that he started out in jazz on upright.

    Totally underrated bass player. He was a lot busier and bluesier on the older stuff, but as things got more driving and riffy he had no ego about laying back and playing exactly what was needed.

      Then I'd suggest you buy yourself some proper headphones. Rage, Victim Of Changes, Love Bites (Yeah the Intro is Ian through a Synth pedal), Dreamer Deceiver, Heavy Metal, etc. Sure you won't "notice" it especially during the Painkiller period but just listen to those tracks without bass. Thin as sh*t.

    He’s the polar opposite of Steve Harris ,can hardly be heard on their records and extremely simple playing

    • @ognir66
      @ognir66 3 года назад +17

      You are completely wrong.
      He is far tighter and more rock solid than Harris could ever be.
      Plus he doesnt go
      E-D-C
      E-C-D in 95% of his songs.
      if anything, its Steve Harris who is the simple bassist.

    • @TheTrooperMB

      @Nairam Diam Ian Hill is one of the tightest bass player i've heard , to the point it sounds almost robotic! Steve Harris on the other hand is the opposite in the sense that he is humanizing the bass by playing on the get go with the feels , the simple mistakes makes it's charm and goes well with maiden I would say , more natural feel
