Part 2 has been delayed first by DJI releasing new firmware just as I was about to upload it on the 6th December which made it very out of date. So I reshot all my image tests and filmed then new footage for the new features. Just after finishing the filming, I caught COVID-19 which has floored me for the last 10 days. It is slow progress but I am working on it again. It will be worth the wait. :)
You are one of the very few channels where a 30 minute video feels more like a 15 minute video and keeps me engaged the whole time. Great job Philip :)
This is such a beautiful review!!! Exactly what I wanted to see. Thank you very much. You must have had such a hard time syncing all of your voice with the footage together. Can't wait for part 2!
Thanks! Yeah syncing isn’t fun. In part two I ask them to put in a time of day freerun timecode which would be helpful for that and for finding your shots :)
I cannot wait for part 2... I cannot tell you how many reviews I've asked in comments to talk about thr different shooting modes and the different frame rates to see if there's aliasing or quality loss and proper comparisons between h265 and pro res. man you are the first person I've seen actually talk about what matters... I must have asked about 20 content creators i swear. Thank you for this.
I'm late to the party by about two months and Part 2 is already out, but I have to admit that the trailer at the end has me more hyped and intrigued than any film trailer I've seen in months, hah.
As always a absolute masterpiece Philipp, it’s getting to a point that the only reviews I’m personally looking forward to watching are yours. Can’t wait for part 2!
Thank you for clearing up the ProRes workflow issues. So in theory, with two M3Cs, 8 to 10 batteries, a generator or huge battery bank, a fast computer, LOTS of secondary storage, and an assistant to handle the data management while flying; an operator could in theory sustain a full day of ProRes HQ shooting. As you say, frankly, ridiculous.
Thanks for a beautiful film, an in depth and considered review, that must have taken you weeks of hard work - it was worth it. Looking forward to part 2 👍
Thanks for a great and thorough review Philip! Really looking forward to part 2. I just want to add my issues with the Mavic 3 in your comment section, just in case DJI listens to your input and maybe even read the comments (I really think they should). 1) Why does the Mavic 3 have such a crippled and limited gimbal pan (+/- 5 degrees) compared to the Mavic 2 Pro (+/- 75 degrees)? For me, that gimbal pan is extremely valuable when filming moving subjects and making them look cool. Plus it's safer and easier to fly forward with the gimbal panned far out, instead of flying sideways'ish trying to accomplish the same thing. This one is for the "How to make simple things much more complicated" books. Sigh… 2) With the new controllers, it seems we lose either way. To use a bigger screen to control the app, like an iPad or something, we have no other choice but to use the RC-N1 controller, which has fewer buttons, dials and wheels, and is too basic compared to the old Mavic 2 Pro controller. Then, if we choose the RC Pro instead to get a better controller, we are stuck with a tiny screen, and cannot connect for instance an iPad to control the app. I know we can connect an external monitor and get an HDMI feed out, but we cannot control the app by touching the monitor. Not a good solution. Sigh… 3) Not being able to chose other ISO values than 400 and 800 when in D-Log. I know people keep repeating that high ISO combined with low light and log footage is a bad idea since you can get noise etc, but I want to make that decision myself, not have DJI make it for me. Noise reduction in post usually isn't that hard. Sigh… 4) Why the FLY app, when they already have the much better GO 4 app? Sigh… 5) Why no enhanced color display when shooting D-Log like the Mavic 2 Pro has? Sigh… 6) The non-swappable SSD in the Cine version like you talk about. Sigh… By the way, it wouldn’t surprise me if the so called “SSD” was just a micro SD card soldered to the motherboard, since the weight difference between the regular Mavic 3 and the Cine version just happen to be the same as what a micro SD card weighs… 7) I’ve spent quite a few days in DaVinci Resolve comparing ProRes to the other codecs, and I can’t really see much of a difference between them (in normal ISO and good light), even when pushing and grading the footage quite heavily. I expected a much larger difference between the codecs, especially with the much higher bitrate and the ridiculous large file sizes of the ProRes. 8) I have seen test footage where the propellers of the Mavic 3 can be seen almost as a “color vibration” on the left and right side of the footage when flying at certain angles to the sun, like in this video by Darren McHardy (you can clearly see it from around 4:55 in the video): ruclips.net/video/X3YpjiYcCkQ/видео.html To me, this seems quite concerning… Could it be the bright color of the propeller tips that reflects light towards the camera lens? 9) The plastic toy-tele-camera. Sigh… 10) Releasing a drone now, without a C-class marking. Sigh… I could have added more than these 10, but I haven’t got the time, since I need to make more popcorn in case you publish part 2. Cheers, Eivind
Cheers Eivind I cover a fair amount of what you talk about in part 2. The gimbal can’t pan because of its size, a real shame. There was ISO higher in the pre-release version but it went with release firmware. I shot stuff for part 2 at 6400! Being forced to use the over sharpened and too contrasty normal mode for lower light is not good. The gamma assist for log will come back. I had it and again lost it with new firmware. I’ve seen a screenshot of the January firmware and it’s deffo in that version. The SSD is is an SSD. It’s too fast to be something like a micro SD. it can write 5.1k 50p ProRes Hq after all! The basic controller is a mistake on a drone this price. Interestingly the iOS app has the ability to change the exponential values of the sticks but the android one in the RC pro doesn’t. One other thing is if you look at the file directory of the Rc pro it says DJI Go V5, not DJI fly!
@@philipbloom GO V5...? Wouldn't that be nice, if they not only fixed a lot of stuff in firmware, but also surprised us with a brand new and even better GO app! Wouldn't fix the basic controller, but... I had my finger on the "buy" button of the M3 Cine the same day they launched it, but after a few initial reviews, I was leaning more towards the Fly More Combo. But after having watched part 1 of your review, I'm actually thinking about keeping my M2P instead. Even though the M3 seems better in so many ways, some of the bad points of the M3 is close to being deal breakers for me. My boss (I'm self employed, so that would be me) says I can have a brand new Mavic 3 Cine or whatever as a pre-Christmas gift, but I think I'll wait until the big DJI M3 firmware update in January (and your part 3, hint hint...) and see what's been fixed or not.
The choice of app annoys me. With the fly app we lose waypoints, the ability to adjust saturation, sharpening, contrast, turning off landing protection, the ability to tap to grab focus (apparently it's either manual or continuous, no button to grab focus), the ability to alter joystick exp, and add to that the loss of tripod mode. Why DJI? Just give people the choice, it's supposed to be for more advanced pilots, people who want control.

I agree with you about the M2P, although DJI have taken the M2P off their retail list according to their website at least and won’t be issuing any more updates it’s still an incredibly capable aerial platform for photographers though I do worry about what the implications maybe for the Go 4 app.
Always worth the wait for your reviews! Not only do your in-depth reviews help me to make informed purchasing decisions, I also ALWAYS learn something about cameras, filming, or cats I didn't before!

Man, I gotta say, I’m loving your videos. The information, along with the video footage and music just makes for some seriously amazing videos. Your awesome voice helps as well. Great job and greetings from Florida.
Extraordinary, as usual. I share your love for "low and slow", so we need to march on DJI with pitchforks and torches DEMANDING the return of tripod mode for ALL DJI drones.
Thank you for all of the hard work on these videos! Huge appreciation for the invaluable work to help out people making the right gear choices for their projects
Any kind of review you do is not boring at all, its like watching a short movie always watching it till the last minute👍 your video’s are on a next level🎉
Philip, this is the best review I have ever seen. I admire You :)) this is really best work and I started even think about it why it is so good. I mean not how You did it but just why You did it. As far as I understand that market I don't expect someone paid You for it soo much. It had to be just Your passion to make it. Your time. Your enormous engagement. This is just amazing. Thank You for that.
Your reviews are always extremely well balanced Philip, and very enjoyable to watch. Thank you for the pleasure. Looking forward to part 2. Regards, Jay
Thanks for all the efforts that goes into this video, your 19 takes on this one scene really opened my eyes to how professionals dwell on nailing their shots exactly. Love your reviews and masterclasses.
Really weird watching this got me thinking about jumping on the Overland to Richmond and having a pint by the fire down at The White Cross...Superb review, and analysis re: the internal SSD, so well thought out.
Thank you for pointing out the overlooked issue of offloading your data directly from the drone due to the internal SSD. I've been saying this since it was announced, but no one else really tests out a product quite like you do for their RUclips review. I am glad you took your time with this video, and produced the most detailed and the most accurate review of this very expensive drone.
I didn't think this would have been such a problem because I assumed that they would allow the drone to charge and transfer via USB c i guess i was wrong..
As per usual the accustomed King of reviewers has has never lets us down :) - thanks sooooo much and well and truly worth the wait Philip. I cannot believe in this day and age they have non removable media in a unit like this - doesn't make sense? - Looking forward to Part 2 :)
First time finding your channel as I am looking to get the most out of my M3. Amazing review and story telling. You really are an artist and I will be following for Part 2!
There's so much yin and yan going through my mind between the Cine and standard version. But surprisingly to me, the deeper and deeper I go (with help from people like you!) the more I lean towards the standard version. Now THAT'S a conclusion I certainly didn't expect to come to when I started this journey!
A beautifully filmed review. I expected to half watch and half listen but really enjoyed your style and story telling. I had a Mavic Pro Platinum, then sold it for a Mavic Air 2 and now waiting on the 3. On to Part 2 and looking forward to seeing what you've learned.
I have never seen a review of this magnitude. I’ve watched quite a bit on this And other drones. This was very well planned, articulated and well rounded from start to finish. It kept me interested through the whole video. Great job sir
Fantastic work! I’ve been watching reviews of the 3 since it came out and your have the most engaging, entertaining, and informative of them all. I’m still debating wether the cine is worth it. Looking forward to part 2!
Stunning review - as ever - and thank you for giving us all of the critical information that we need to know about this drone. 42 minutes and 19 takes of the opening shot shows us all we need to know about your commitment to the cause. Amazing dedication 👏
Thanks for your honest and clearly unbiased review, Philip! I've been pretty happy with my Mavic Tuppence and honestly don't see any reason to upgrade, especially due to the hugely inflated price of the Mavic 3. I'm looking forward to part 2!
I was supposed to go to the gym. Some things just have more priority. 28 minutes of well worthy entertainment for setting that aside. As always Philip, Thank you for making another great video. 🙏
Great review and very entertaining. As I wrote to you before u are one of the few last remaining truly honest people doing reviews out there . Much appreciated . can’t wait for part 2
Wonderful footage to go along with your thoughts. Particularly the close-in parallax stuff. Nice! Appreciate the thoughtful take on the latest from DJI. Still struggling with my standard Fly More (2nd combo after replacing the 1st)
I am annoyed that i watched half a dozen reviews from 'you-tubers' which was a huge and annoying waste of time. This is what i was after, a proper review by a proper film maker. Thank you
Wow as usual what a stellar production! I do want to make mention that in nearly every shot from the drone I see a slight stutter particularly noticeable in foliage. I wonder if that is a writing speed issue/sensor processing problem.
1:32 Utterly outstanding... 14:40 Hilarious... (and I share your pain...) 21:40 Absolutely! I did this when flying over the Icelandic volcano :) 24:15 On the non-Cine models, you can charge the battery whilst in the drone via the USB C (but of course you can also take out the micro SD card...) 26:55 - Keeping it under 900 gms was a key requirement for C1 classification (one day!). A truly brilliant review Philip. Thank you... Cheers, Ian
Thanks Ian! Yes you can charge via usb with the cine model too. You mean charge one battery in there and the other two in the cradle? Sure. I only need one for offload. I’ve also done some tests and if I offload to one of DJI’s very expensive 1tb SSDs for the ronin 4d I can offload 1tb in 20 minutes. Of course I then have to offload that but at least it’s off the drone! What a faff!
@@philipbloom Good that you can charge one of your dead batteries to power up the drone whilst also downloading from the SSD; a slight bit of faff and time reduced.... On an aside, I do wonder how many TBs of storage you have......... :)
@@IaninLondon No, you can't. it's either charge or offload. That's why I have to charge a battery first, so 90 minutes before I can offload, which is frankly ridiculous! You should be able to get enough power from the USB of the computer so you can offload without any battery power. e
@@philipbloom Ah, that's very poor! Completely understand the frustration. When I was in Iceland flying right over the volcano, I was swapping the SD card with each battery as I genuinely put my chances of losing it around 1 in 3..... As it was, all good. 👍🏻
Shooting aerials from helicopters for years, during rehearsals the pilot and I would usually first establish "Number One", "Number Two" etc. These were positions in space that defined where the camera ship would be at a certain point during the shot. In other words, waypoints. We really need waypoints. Safer, easier and photographically superior drone operations would result.
So much to learn. When I watch your reviews I always feel like I'm in a Philip Bloom masterclass and failing terribly. However, I always move on inspired to be better. Thanks for all the insight!
The best review as always and can't wait for part 2 - How has the rest of RUclips not highlighted these seeming obvious issues? Killing a battery just to download footage ( if you've even got one charged after a flight) seem bonkers.
Dear Philip, I'm an autistic writer yet neither a photographer nor a film maker. I'm an amateurish amateur so to sayy, looking for a camera drone and due to that reason looking into various drone reviews. I also looked into some of yours before and my most favorised so far had been the one where you put a camera drown in the laundry mashine. But that was just for the stunning effect. This review here was the very first that did not bore me. It was the right balance between a professional camera man language and comon speak language and I enjoyed your "pixel counting review" - as you named it - very much. I did not saw part II yet but I'm that excited to get that seen as if I would be by reaching a cliff hanger in an extremly good written book. This review teases adiction to your reports. Well done. Very well done. Sincerily, Stefan, Kiel, Germany.
Thanks Phillip! Part 2 gets darker, in more way ways than one. Hopefully both these reviews will show DJI what they must fix. Sadly the ProRes HQ problem we are stuck wit.
@@philipbloom I’m with you 100% on Part 1, and I’m pretty sure I’ll be with you 100% on Part 2. It was a big hit to my wallet this month, so fingers crossed they do fix it all, luckily I went for the non Cine version, I just couldn’t justify the Cine, neither the price nor the difference in quality you get.
Bloom, I just want you to know that I have no intentions of purchasing the M3, pro or otherwise. But I have to tune in because this is as much Art as it is a Review. Thanks. Always a pleasure.
Impressive walk&talk&fly there, Phillip. One comment. You state at the end that the h.265 and PRHQ look very similar, but that the ProRes will hold up better to severe grading. That’s of course what we’d expect… and assume, but in practice are you really seeing that? The tests I’ve run with pretty strong grades look near identical to me. Less noise in the H.265, but not really less detail, and color that looks identical.. no obvious breakups in areas you’d expect to see them. (That said, some higher speed flights I’ve seen have bad Long GOP artifacts. )
Thank you for the first part. Very informative as usual. You confirm what I already suspected: this is not a drone that I will buy. As things stand now, with all kinds of travel restrictions, I'm more tempted to get another Phantom 4, a Pro, saving a lot of money and utilising all the batteries and other gear that I already have. I like the image and video quality and features of the 4 Pro. It's easier to spot as well. To me, that's an advantage. If I want stealth, I have a Mini 2. Still looking forward to the second part.
Great review, as always. Looking forward to part 2. Thank you for highlighting the issues with the SSD, seems to have been forgotten about on the 36235 other reviews!
Thanks Edward. I saw a couple of people mention it wasn’t ideal but didn’t see anyone go through the full nightmare workflow and data management from flying to offload. Its frankly ridiculous! 🤓 I don’t get how nobody at DJI flagged these things before production. The moment I got the specs sent to me, before I got the drone, I said that surely you haven’t put in a non removable 1tb SSD?
@@philipbloom it certainly does mean very careful planning of shots to reduce amount captured. Hopefully they will be able to offer ProRes 422 / LT with a firmware update , at least that would make it a little less painful. Still undecided which version of the mavic 3 to get so bit of a moot point for me at the moment.
I loved this review. I never sit down to watch anything more than 10 minutes since I get restless but this was a very captivating piece of work. Pity DJI couldn't figure out or held back on removable media for Prores but maybe we see that in a slightly tweaked Mavic 3 Cine S a year and a half from now. As a total noob to the drones, I am eagerly waiting for part two to see if the Mavic 3 is the "best" option for me or saving a bunch and going with an Air 2S. I think for the media I do, 80% stills and 20% video for RUclips that the normal Mavic 3 is for me. Thank you, Philip.
Thank you, that’s a nice compliment. I really think you should look at the air 2s. It’s my drone of the year. It’s less than half the price, small and a great image. You should check out my review on it :) part 2 will be out middle to end of next week :)
@@philipbloom Thanks Philip! Definitely leaning towards the Air 2S after watching your review, do you think you'll make a dedicated video or facebook post comparing/TLDR'ing them together? You fit that very rare intersection of someone not afraid to say something critical about a product AND actually having the knowledge and experience to back it up. It's a literal golden nugget on this platform.
Hello…. Excellent review from a true professional….question….how are you able to fly so close to trees and through openings in the trees while at the same time talking? That is a skill I don’t have… Regards. Ron

The best quality reviews on the planet.
Love the review as usual. Looking forward to part two hopefully soon 🙏🏻
This coming week…just need some more info for DJI before I film my last pick ups
Sudden excitement rush when I see your Mavic 3 review in my feed. I've been trying to get one for the last two weeks. Waiting for the part two!
When I saw the storyblocks ad, I could not resist anymore. I hit the like button.
Geez mate I bloody love your reviews. Completely unique and a marvel to watch.
Really weird watching this got me thinking about jumping on the Overland to Richmond and having a pint by the fire down at The White Cross...Superb review, and analysis re: the internal SSD, so well thought out.
Thanks Russ! Being a warm jacket for The White Cross!!
Thanks you Mohammad. That workflow was the first thing that I thought of when I heard it was an internal SSD. 😞
I didn't think this would have been such a problem because I assumed that they would allow the drone to charge and transfer via USB c i guess i was wrong..
A really good review Philip of the M3. Looking forward to part II :-)
Thanks Blake :)
There's so much yin and yan going through my mind between the Cine and standard version. But surprisingly to me, the deeper and deeper I go (with help from people like you!) the more I lean towards the standard version. Now THAT'S a conclusion I certainly didn't expect to come to when I started this journey!
D Log works, and is much easier to work with than Pro Res.
The best review of this drone by far! You're the only reviewer to point out the absurdity of using a built-in SSD.
A beautifully filmed review. I expected to half watch and half listen but really enjoyed your style and story telling. I had a Mavic Pro Platinum, then sold it for a Mavic Air 2 and now waiting on the 3. On to Part 2 and looking forward to seeing what you've learned.
Another masterpiece by incredible Mr. Bloom!
A great review combined with a great filmic experience as always! Can’t wait to see part 2!
I have never seen a review of this magnitude. I’ve watched quite a bit on this And other drones. This was very well planned, articulated and well rounded from start to finish. It kept me interested through the whole video. Great job sir
Thanks :)
Finally a review of yours where I’m not in a rush to go out and buy it… we’ll, at least until part 2 anyway.
Wow - loved it. Can't believe the h.265 noise levels - looking forward to part two already!
Fantastic work! I’ve been watching reviews of the 3 since it came out and your have the most engaging, entertaining, and informative of them all. I’m still debating wether the cine is worth it. Looking forward to part 2!
Thanks Jordan!
Looking forward to the release of the full set of Bloom Hair Mist filters
Just buy some hair spray! Procedure detailed in my last Air 2S video! 😂
Super! Thank you, I like this slow but intriguing narration, and honest attitude. Thank You!
Stunning review - as ever - and thank you for giving us all of the critical information that we need to know about this drone. 42 minutes and 19 takes of the opening shot shows us all we need to know about your commitment to the cause. Amazing dedication 👏
What a cliffhanger! Great as always
28 minutes review, PART 1! lol
Keep it up, your videos are always interesting and a lot of fun.
Thanks Anthony!
Finally someone took a good look at the pointlessness of the internal drive.
I'm waiting for part 2 ;)
I’ve been waiting for this review! Thank you!!
Really fancy your show, mate! Can't wait for part 2!
SUPERB VIDEO!
Merci :)
Always a great day when we get a new video especially when you know part 2 is coming soon! ❤️😊
Great review and very entertaining. As I wrote to you before u are one of the few last remaining truly honest people doing reviews out there . Much appreciated . can’t wait for part 2
Thanks Demetris :)
Excellent as always Philip !
"there is another solution, buy a second 3." - Philip Bloom is the fucking best.
Only review that talk about workflow when work with Cine version. Thank for a great review.
Thank you! Yeah the workflow ruins the cine version 😞
haha I love that I get a ton of actually helpful/useful information and then comedy at places like 15:08. I feel like you just get me!
Philip wow this is a great documentary. Perfect in every way . I forgot this was a Mavic 3 review LOL
Thanks Ray :)
Sitting down to watch this now. Been waiting over three years!
Sorry it took me that long to make! 😂
@@philipbloom Yeah that or DJI took their sweet old time to launch the mavic 3 hahahaha
The most seamless Storyblock integration I've seen
Stunning work, as always. This was more exciting to watch than Scorsese's latest flicks. Can't wait for the sequel!
Love how your reviews are like documentaries.
Thanks Pia. I always make a huge effort with them. :)
Wow, this is one of the best armature videos that I have seen. Great Job! Great footage, and great colors.
Philip isn't no amateur! He's as professional as they come :)
The best review as always and can't wait for part 2 - How has the rest of RUclips not highlighted these seeming obvious issues? Killing a battery just to download footage ( if you've even got one charged after a flight) seem bonkers.
It’s frankly ridiculous! 😃
That rising reveal of the city shot is incredible. 🤯
Entertaining and informative as usual! Thanks Philip.
Dear Philip,
I'm an autistic writer yet neither a photographer nor a film maker.
The camera analysis was really useful. Particularly the focus/macro info. Thank you!
Loved every second of it Philip 🔥
Brilliant review Philip, just as always!
Wow! Just wow about the effort you put in.
Why would i even start a channel when there are people out there like you.
Crazy
Hello Philip, when do you come with part 2, love your review, as always top!.
That Storyblocks segway is superb.
thank you Shaheed!
thanks for this absolutely fantastic review. i love the way this video was made. I'm really looking forward to part 2, but save it for tomorrow ;-)
(That said, some higher speed flights I’ve seen have bad Long GOP artifacts. )
all in part 2!
the best drone review on youtube great music too
Thank you for the first part.
I don’t get how nobody at DJI flagged these things before production.
Epic! exceptional review as always!
Awesome review! I’m coming from the inspire 2 and having a hard time justifying the cine version with prores. Excited for part 2 🙌🏼
Hello…. Excellent review from a true professional….question….how are you able to fly so close to trees and through openings in the trees while at the same time talking? That is a skill I don’t have… Regards. Ron
Thanks! Just lots of practice! :)
