i like how you're so forgiving about both controllers and see right through their flaws and look more on the positive side what makes the controllers great compared to other reviewers, great review video
I just got the victrix two days ago and just came across this video lol! Absolutely perfect review IMO! Especially the fight pad button spacing. That's absolutely the only critique I personally have. I used the Astro C40 on PS4 and the victrix is the closest I've come to that same comfort and feel. Loving it so far for COD and SF6!
This review was exactly what I needed! Do I want a fight stick? Absolutely, YES! But these options give me a more price conscious choice, which is exactly what I need until I can save up the coin for a fight stick. I believe I’m leaning towards the BFG, thank you so much for this and all of your content. Keep it up Chief!
So recently I bought me an Arcade Stick (which I really wanted to try out) and I have the Victrix Pro Controller too. I still want to play and practice on the Arcade Stick, but I may lean towards the D-pad controller. It is also very hard to choose and stick with because those type of sticks and controllers are very expensive and it’s very hard to see which one you want to stick with. Like I wish I can try out everything to see what fits for me, you know.
I had two Fighting Commanders break on me. The d-pad started to crap out and the buttons kept getting stuck. I switched to the retrobit USB Saturn pad. So far so good
For players who use pads like these, how do you hold the controller? Do you rest it on your lap and tap down on the buttons so you can do commands like lariat? If you hold it in your hand, how do you end up doing the lariat?
You could also map a a macro button to do the lariat for you. One button lariat is strong. I hope that helps, I don't play much on pad at all for so my advice is limited. Either way, I hope I've helped a little.
So TLDR: Hori fight commander is great for its price. Could be more comfortable. Very good for fighting games, but only usable for fighting games. BFG pro is a great controller all around. Very comfy, more weight, very modular. Exceptional for fighting games, but can be used in other types of games as well. Get the Hori octa if you just plan on playing fighting games. Get the BFG if you also want to play other games.
Late but the issue of repeated buttons can be fixed with victrix app, that allows you to separate fightpad r1 and r2 from actual r1 and r2 button, making them completely independent.
So I put my eye on the victrix controller some time ago, but it is kind of expensive, I really need to be 100 percent convinced it is worth its cost, and I have seen so many mixed opinions that I just don't know
The only option it lacks is a 6 button layout with rubber a membrane instead of the micro switch. A dpad with microswitches would be a good option too.
Thank you for the review. I own the DSE but I LOVE my elite 2 so you know I had to pull the trigger on this one eventually. Yes I can use a brook for my elite 2 but it would make it wired only and I can use my fight stick for all that. Yes it’s not the best and yes no Bluetooth but I own the DSE for all that so I knew what I was getting into. I can say I feel more comfortable playing my fps games and when I play SF how I can swap out to the six button layout and having a d pad where the stick normally is made me appreciate this controller even more. Yes the six button layout should be like hori fight pad yes back buttons and triggers can be improved I think if Victrix makes a new version of this controller it can end up being “The One” with more 3rd party pro controllers coming out and the price being high it’s hard to find the right one but I can say this if you already own a DSE, if this ever goes on sale or you are a big fan of the Xbox layout I would definitely recommend you give this one a shot
People are always conflicted. Becuase I have the Octa and it plays amazingly but you have people that don't like it and Victrix as well. Everyone has a preference

With the hori, the shoulder buttons are too close together which causes accidental button presses; unless you have teenee tiny hands.
Both controllers have software for individual button remapping. Just download the software on the PC you're editing these videos on and plug them in. This means that on the victrix you can change the R1/R2 buttons on the controller to L1/L2 and the L1/L2 buttons to R3/L3.
Thank you so much for the information my friend. I guess I overlooked that feature. I appreciate the comment and you helping the community have all the information they need. Keep pressing them buttons!
You can buy the hall effect upgrade now I believe, which should eliminate drift entirely. If you're just using it for fighting games then drift wouldn't really be an issue.
This form factor looks so good for emulation as well, not on classic fighting games but games for the n64 aa well as the sega saturn. If only they had a version that was inexpensive like the hori but wireless as well.
I hate how they need to bind L3 on the analog and on the shoulder button. And no, you can't unbind them even when you plug it on pc and try to edit it.
Interesting, I find the octa dpad to be probably the most comfortable dpad I've ever used. If it was more reliable I wouldn't have replaced it with the BFG. I wish hori made a pro version of the octa, with no dpad issues or at least let us swap it out easy.
@@waynehiggins7950 it had the potential to make reliable inputs, and I liked the mouse click buttons, but the dpad was too stiff and was never reliable for me. The 8bit do Sega Saturn style controller has been the most reliable pad for me, on par with dual shock 4, maybe better. I can actually light dash into EWGF with it until my old hands and brain start getting tired, and it's only about $35 dollars
I still don't understand why they discontinued the original fighting commander. It was great, relatively cheap, compact and had a great dpad. Also, given how great betop thorn's circular dpad is, the updated fighting commander from hori could've just been the same product with a swappable dpad. I feel like they missed out on making the perfect fightpad, which is just the original fighting commander with a few tweaks
On common controllers like the ps4 and ps5 I often found myself going through controllers, some of the time due to mini tears in the rubber that sits beneath buttons which would cause buttons to stick and become loud upon releasing, or the analogue sticks would wear down and I'd get stick drift. I like the look of the Victrix but i question the price in fear of it reaching a point like other controllers where im hitting the same issues with the degradation of buttons and sticks
If you check out the unboxing video of the Victrix, you'll see that it has micro switches for the buttons on the 6 button lay out only. That alone well have better longevity than regular pads because the PS4/5 pads all have that rubber membrane you mentioned. The micro switches don't rely on the rubber to send the button back up, but the micro switches have a different was of sending the button up. Victrix has also mentioned recently about selling just the stick modules so they can be replaced that way. I hop this helps and thank you for the comment and supporting the channel. Keep pressing them buttons!
@@ButtonClubFGC Thank you for taking the time to reply, this is exactly what i've been looking for in a controller and you've helped confirm my decision, excellent product reviews.
I got the hori fighting commander n I gotta tell you it’s great! But as a pad player the Dpad KILLS my thumb n I’m not an analog guy so yeaaaa…time for a switch
I dont understand why controllers are just getting worse? Why is it such a struggle to have a pad with accurate diagonals. Both of these controllers are terrible. Dropped inputs, bad diagonals...
And the shape and weight is getting worse and worse, I am just unable to find a valid replacement for my gen 2 dual shock 4 controller, every other newer controller feels awful right away the sec I touch it.
I have the Hori FC Octa it’s trash the dpad is so bad and painful to use … I went back to Sony dpad because it’s nicer and more comfortable dpad i can do the combos better. In the past I did also try Nacon pro controller it was also bad the dpad was also trash.. I don’t know about V-BFG I think most pro controllers are trash
the Victrix is the best general controller you can use for fighting game but there is better pads only for fighting games the Betop C3 is one sixths of the price but you will only use it for fighting games and its way better then any other pad controller
The repeated R1/R2 on the Victrix was the biggest issue for me. In order to fix, I had to download the companion app and remap the controls and also remap my controls in the game to get all of my buttons and then DI, DP on R1/R2. also its just super expensive... I do like the modularity of the various buttons and configurations
Not showing all of the modules for the BFG such as the different length analogue sticks, or the fact that you can turn the left module upside down so the d-pad is on top of the analogue stick, was a major L for this review. Not to mention the fact that you can rebind the buttons in Victrix's software, so you can make the right top buttons L1 and L2.

Check out its own video if you’d like to see the full breakdown- I guess you missed that part in this video when he says that. ruclips.net/video/ZfGQ-5szmoQ/видео.html
The only reason I'd choose the BFG over the Hori, is if you REALLY need the modularity for games other than fighting games imo Love the content as always, keep up the amazing work gentlemen!
The Octa sucks IMO. Try the PS3 or PS4 "Pro" versions with the long left handle, adjustable dpad angle and sensitivity. I have so many different Hori Fighting Commanders and the PS4 Pro version is the best, even the older design that is used for xbox and nintendo switch (and also PS3/4) is still better than the Octa. I think Hori have made a mistake not continuing the older style fighting commanders for PS5.
I've had the hori for a year and it's been really good, I'm curious about the victrix, but yeah, the hori suceed at his work: it is, in fact great for fighting games.
This reviee does nothing to discuss the responsiveness that you feel in gsme from the d pad alone. Stupid review...that is the single most important aspect of a fight pad. Then, the shoulder buttons being buttons as opposed to travel time presses. The vitrix has travel time in the triggers and a t shape d pad. Very much a hot or mix with most people. Hori....has buttons, and a better d pad.
If you watch the unboxing videos, I go over all that. The Victrix has short throw trigger options that I also went over in the unboxing. It's far from a stupid review, I just didn't want to be redundant in the case of people who had already seen the other videos. Maybe you should check them out so you can be more informed about the features of each one of these controllers. Either way, thanks for the comment and supporting the Button Club channel. Keep pressing them buttons!

The dpad on the octa drops diagonal inputs on the regular. Very sad, because it’s otherwise awesome. But losing precision in a fighting game is pretty much a deal breaker
I've had the octa for a few weeks now and I haven't dropped any diagonal inputs once getting used to it. You may just need more time with it or it's just not the controller for you.
