    The Xbox Series S gpu is somewhere between a gtx 1650 super and a gtx 1660 super, so its performance would be more or less on par with the regular gtx 1660. Not bad for a $199-250 console. Not bad, actually...

    What most people are forgetting is that in unreal 5.1 it’s not just the new graphical options improving it it is also the fact in unreal 5.0 the lighting was crap. In 5.1 it is 10x better.

    The series s has next gen detail and draw distance, lower res, but a higher and more stable frame rate. Because fortnite is now using UE5.1 I would like to see sfs. With that we may see 1620p~4k on series s. Nanite will definatly improve performance on series s in fortnite as it's digital mesh shading basically, but like I said with the series s in other videos on ue5, series s is only benefiting off of the engine it self, this is still not the full power of the XSS.

      Does nanite only effect lumen? I wish the series s has the full ray tracing experience at 30 fps for all I care. I literally bought the series s for 2k gaming at 60 fps and 1080p at 120 fps.

      @@UncleRuckus-codeblack No nanite is it's seperate thing in rendering, it dose not effect lumen at all. And when it comes to Ray Tracing, it's memory, this is where SFS and bcpack compression will come in, also because devs code like it's last gen on next gen consoles, dev waste 2~4 cores on rendering task because they don't use the dedicatide decompression block within the xbox series s and x, which can also effect performance.
      So the verdict is, 8gb is to little for raytracing at 1440p even 1080p in some casses, that's why I said they need to use sfs and bcpack for games as it multiplys effective memory by 2.5×~3× on adverage and bcpack compresses assets by 2× on adverage.
      If you did not know 2/3 of asset data is not needed, that also takes up memory as well, sfs and bcpack also speeds up effective bandwith speed as well.
      Sfs culls out needless memory and gives what is needed for the gpu, and on top of that bcpack will compress it, therefore multiplying effective memory and speed.
      And that's why you can't see full raytracing in fortnite on series s, devs will start to use these features within the velocity archictectrue and the gdk soon in 2023.
      The gpu is not running at full power because of the development pipeline, and bandwith importantly, and the gpu not sending asset data to the cpu in time, on top of the 2 to 4 cores wasted and putting to much strian on the gpu. Sfs and bcpack on top of the decompression block within the console and correct code, it will correct all of these issues.

      you can say thanks to how this game is coded.
      Not that epic did a terrible job but the source code of the game isn't targeting next gen .
      But the implementation of Nanite and [[software]] lumen is good.
      The series s is built from the ground up to be dependent of the velocity architecture and mesh shading.
      Fun fact nanite as for base mesh shading.
      Still.
      I would like to clarify several points .
      As you know this game is coded to make sure even potato with an antenna can run it.
      Here is the fun bit for series x and series s.

      He is there to make sure the cpu doesn't waste precious cycles transferring data to the gpu which would in turn make the gpu somewhat slower. As the gpu depends on cpu instructions to actually perform anything.
      Those cycles could have been utilized to process more effects, ai,....
      Here
      Direct-storage gets rid of that pipeline.
      Vulgarly speaking direct-storage boost cpu and gpu raw power.
      Why do I say "raw power" when it's a software feature.
      Simply because direct storage doesn't degrade anything to gain performance.
      And he does so by making the gpu somewhat independent for some task .
      Since the gpu doesn't need to wait for the cpu to send some data, it can perform them on it's own.
      Thus Making the gpu work faster.
      And as I said earlier direct storage saves cpu cycles.
      There is another big benefit in combination with decompression block or for pc ( the gpu)but I will talk about it later when relevant.

      Allows the cpu to not perform active decompression which takes 4 zen2 cores.

      I know it works for texture but not sure if it's also for assets . So I won't assume thing and mislead you

      Vulgarity summarized,
      Sfs is software feature that tells the gpu to scan the scene Frame by Frame to look for what textures are actually displayed and at what distance
      To allow the gpu to call the perfect amount of texture and miplvl ( texture resolution) that is absolutely needed.
      So it's granular.
      Cutting by 3 the amount of texture using the memory bandwidth .

      Let's take an example.
      8 gb at 224gb/s bandwidth
      Let's say that 70% of that bandwidth is dedicated to texture streaming.
      Let's also assume that in the worst case bcpack only works on texture and Nothing else to put the worst case possible for series s.
      70% of 224 = ~157.
      ~67 gb/
      Those 70% are compressed with bcpack.
      157÷2=~79
      Sfs cuts that by 3.
      79/3=~26gb/s
      So worst case.
      67gb/s uncompressed
      +26gb/s compressed texture.
      =93gb/s.
      So we went from 224gb/s to 93gb/s .
      224/93=2.4
      A 2.4 times reduction in bandwidth utilization.
      If put to the original bandwidth.
      It would be just like putting the equivalent of 2.4 times 224.
      That would be 538 gb/s .
      Keep in mind that's per gb of ram.
      Once again, it could be much better than that.

      Now is the relevant moment to talk about the biggest benefits of Direct storage + decompression block.
      The SMT:
      Not only direct storage free up the cpu that doesn't need to transfer all the data to the gpu but the decompression block
      Offload decompression task form cpu.
      On pc it's the gpu .
      Thanks to direct storage 1.1 on pc.
      Since pc doesn't have a dedicated hardware decompression block.
      It can cut cpu utilization to half .
      Or even bigger.
      This also allows for the era of SMT
      Simultaneous Multi-threading.
      That is a big deal ,especially on pc .
      As for the downgraded software lumen at 1/16 ray per pixel.
      The cpu could to much more thanks to direct storage and sfs freeing memory bandwidth.
      The cpu could do 1/2 ray per pixel for instance.
      On series s this just means huge improvements.

      Yo when I looked up ur profile i accidentally click on a different comment of urs. Im the guy who wanted to ask ur advice as u seem to know ur stuff about a good well priced (budget) 1080p with 120+hz. I have a one x but picked up a series s cause of rumors of price hikes around the corner.
      I've watched many vid n read many articles and its all confusing as some say some 144hz monitors dont have a setting of 120hz so the series s cant take advantage of it. No idea if thats stupid or true as i imagine if xbss needs a 120 cap n some monitors dont have that cause pc can literally set any fps setting. I obviously dk shit so i cheap monitor that works with 120fps preferably 27" is all i want n its all confusing to me.

    They need to add a resolution mode to series S so we can have the Lumen mode and 120fps mode along with a high resolution mode without Lumen.

      @@Diegonando64 The RX 6500 XT has far fewer cores than the xbox s series gpu, only 4gb of vram and a much more limited bandwidth (64bits), it is not comparable to Series S, and in fact performs much worse than Series S. To say that series s is equivalent to the RX 6400 is absurd. In reality the series s is more similar to a GTX 1650 Super by number of cores and bandwidth or even to a GTX 1660 Super by having 8gb of gddr6 (2gb more than the GTX 1660).🤷🏻‍♂️
