my wife and i love how prolific you guys have been with the videos lately. keep up the great work!
Appreciate that, Kobe!
that is so cool, being able to compare 2 location in different cities a day apart.
Lucky to have one within driving distance.
We saw your Chicago review. Based on that review we went to Portillo
s Buena Park on Fathers Day. We loved it!
Nice! We had to go back too!
My husband and I love when we see a new video! I never knew about the Buena Park Portillo's. Chicago is one of our favorite places so we had fun watching those videos. Happy Friday!
Portillos is BOMB! I'm not a fan of the chocolate shake (wet pieces of cake in my mouth) but I think their strawberry shake is SPECTACULAR, perhaps even better than Chik Fil-A's, who I think has the best shakes overall. Have you tried Chik's seasonal peach shakes? UNBELIEVABLE! In season as of this moment!
Gees ! ..... I'm gettin TIRED of you both goin places without ME 😡😵
Welcome home you guys. Thanks for doing sch a great job showing us the world.
There’s not one bad item on the menu- Everything delicious 😋. Was neighbor’s with the Portillo’s in the 70’s, when starting the business in a little hotdog stand.
It was better before they sold it, they cut corners now and the quality is way down.
Loved this video. I commented on some of your other Chicago videos since I’m a native Chicagoan. Glad you stuck with the sweet peppers. That’s the most traditional way. The giardianiara topping of spicy pickled veggies isn’t for everyone. I personally don’t like it, but it’s the only way my parents eat it. Thought I’d mention that we have two styles of “Italian beefs” that I’m aware of. One is the Portillo’s and Al’s Beef version which is what you have tried already. The other is the version done by Greek owned hot dog stands. They slice the beef just slightly thicker and season the juice it’s cooked in differently. One noticeable addition is that they put cinnamon sticks in the juice. If I go to a new hot dog stand and order the Italian beef I can immediately tell whether it’s a Greek owned stand which isn’t my favorite way. I already mentioned in a previous comment to hit up Ricobene’s in the Bridgeport neighborhood (which is right next to China-Town making it easy to check out their local offerings too) for their breaded steak sandwich. This has been featured in national magazines and I’m pretty sure vice.com made a filmed visit to this spot too. Hopefully you guys make it out here again very soon, if not, consider coming during our Taste of Chicago which should be on track next year for summer 2021. The taste has pretty much everything you’d want to sample. I think it might be one of the biggest world food festivals.
Thanks again for all the info! Heard about the Taste of Chicago, sounds like a fun event.
The celery salt is what was missing from the Chicago dog!!
Yep you are right!!!
All Portillos are the same, they all add celery salt to the dogs. Hope this helps, I called the Buena Park location just now to verify with the manager. I take this seriously haha.
@@capncork maybe they just forgot the salt that time
@@loobylooroden6176 yeup, they just dont sell like the ribs and other items but the dogs are made the same.
Hello Guys! I am a Chicagoan living in Southern California. The snap Lisa had in Chicago was due to the Vienna hot dog meat. A chgo staple. California does not have this and also the relish is different than other cities. Makes a huge difference. Have eaten at Portillo's in Buena Park as well. Noticed the difference right away. Love your travels.
Same here I agree!
Bill: "The consistency of it, what do you think?"
Lisa: "Try it out babe" (translation= just taste it so I can try it)
Lol I love y'all, I love y'all!!!!
The portillos team leads and managers were sent there for 6+ months to make sure the experience was similar across the states (worked at ports 17 years ago and my staff was sent to open Cali store).
It tastes different cause a Chicago style dog has to be made by a Chicagoan 😁 I grew up eating Portillo’s at the original one in Villa Park IL. Portillo’s is the best! Great video!
You two make me so hungry! One of my favorite channels 🇺🇸🙋♀️🦋💜
Yay! Thank you, Tammy!
Awesome review Bill and Lisa! I agree with you and think they are spot in to the original in Chicago. You should give the ribs a try next time.
Beautiful Guys!! Mouthwatering sandwiches that remind me of home. I am glad that the consistency is close to the same in Chicago.
How do people possibly hate your videos?! There is nothing offensive at all . Much luv guys!
Thank you for putting out great content. I subscribed to your channel when you bumped into Steve's Not Leaving Las Vegas Freemont Street livestream and have enjoyed all your videos since. You eat so much delicious food and describe it so well which always makes me hangry :P Keep up the great work!
Awesome, thank you!
“It’s thick but it’s not hard to suck.” 😜😝😛 lmao my favorite foodie vloggers
How long have you guys been married? You're definitely soul mates; you just go together! The love of traveling & doing the food reviews are equally matched between the two of you. I love these reviews! There's a Portillo's 35 miles from me; I'm trying that chocolate cake shake!!
celery salt?
I can confirm as a person that worked at portillos before that they do put a slice of cake in a cup and is then blending with the shake and some chocolate syrup. Y’all should try cheese sauce with Italian beef because it’s very good! Love the video
Can't Wait for Portillo's to Come TEXAS... Houston, Dallas, San Antonio & Austin. I was Made in Chicago, IL. (southside)
They opened a Portillos out here in Az last year,,very good food, Glad you guys got back safe!
Chocolate cake shake - yummy!🍦🍰🍦🍰🍦🍰. Thanks Bill n Lisa ☆☆☆
Hi. It's so nice to see you both again. I can go for a milkshake right now with this summer season. Stay cool.
Wow THANK YOU FOR SHOWING THIS. Y'all are so cool.the food looks good.. GOD bless you and your family .
No wonder I hate eating my own cooking, I've been watching you eat awesome foods!!!
I love ur Vegas vlogs always!!! & I’m from buena park, I need to try that shake !! 😊
Yummy!!! Glad to see you guys tried the Buena Park location!
Portillo's has been my favorite fast food place since high school 30 years ago...I'm a Chicago native living in Socal...personally I think Chicago does it a little better than Buena Park. You guys should try the Maxwell Street Polish there next time...it is amazing..sauerkraut on the side, not on the polish.
Italian beef is my favorite. As far as dipping the gravy, I always get mine "dry" with gravy on the side. I dip it as I eat it..prevents soggy bread. I dislike soggy bread as much as soggy pizza crust. I drench it with gravy just before I'm ready to eat it... retains the chewiness of the bread while still holding all the delicious juices of the gravy! Highly recommend!!
We'll have to give that Maxwell Street Polish next time! Thanks for the recommendation.
Great vids n can't wait for More of my hometown vids, Vegas baby.
My mouth is watering!! Unreal!!! Looks soooooo friggin good. Wow
I'm so glad you tried the chocolate cake shake...my favorite!
It's so good!
thank you for your reviews, your the best on RUclips!!
Lisa, your hair looked so good in redondo beach, you went back to your old style.
I always watch you two Really enjoy your videos!####
Great video. Now I know I can try Portillo's in Buena Park or Chicago. I'm still salivating for that Italian roast beef sandwich! 🤤 Thank you Bill and Lisa. Stay safe.
Yes, Yvonne, the Italian Beef is a must try! You'll love it!
How fun to compare! I’ve never tried the shake, but now I’m going to have to!
I almost went to the Buena Park Portillo’s the other day after watching your Chicago video. Now I’m definitely going. Edit: P.S. I just saw that Irrawaddy Taste of Burma in Stanton is back open for dine in. Would be awesome to see you guys review Burmese food.
I wish I would of been there when you two visited. My kids love the fries with cheese sauce. Italian Dip is one of my faves.
Try their cheeseburger. It's absolutely epic! Love Portillos, glad there are a few here in Wisconsin
What was the hot dog missing? It wasn't cooked with love!
Do they rhyme your order # at pickup? "Number 21 your order is done", "42 looking for you", "order 73 come see me"...
They did! '38, must be great!' haha
Love is the most important ingredient! ❤️ Oh!! Maybe the celery salt?
Another of the few outside of Chicago areas is down in Riverside. My buddy from Chicago took me to the Buena Park one and now I go to the Riverside one. Haven't been to the Chicago, but both CA locations are good.
Love your shirt Bill!!
Looks like a good hot dog all the same... could the missing humidity be the factor? 🤔
Maybe, Tim. lol Some viewers suggested that maybe the celery salt is missing.
It was clergy salt.
Maybe celery salt ;)
Definitely going to check that out when I am out in the area.
Worth the visit, Tanya!
where do you guys get your hair-do at a time like this?
so um.. where?
Maybe the excitement of being in Chicago made it different, great video, welcome home, when are you going back to Vegas?
Very soon!
Love Portillo's we have a few of them in the Tampa area here in Florida Best Italian Beef!! Love the channel !!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Oh my gosh, that Italian beef! Yummmm
I always get my portillos beef with giardiniera!! So spicy and delicious. I loved your chicago video. That is where we are from!!!
I went to portillo's for the first time today and ordered exactly what you guys ordered. It was amazing!👍💕😉
Nice, Stephanie! You just had a Taste of Chicago!
@@billandlisa I also tried, the Italian steak and sausage, it was HEAVEN!😇
You guys have to try it. 😉👍
I miss their chocolate cake!!! Oooh the days!
I grew up on BONO'S ITALIAN BEEF on Eastern and Tropicana in Vegas in the 70's and 80's! The BEST! The Chicago Dog is the Best!
Didn’t know portillos was from Chicago! Been there once though I love their shakes and Malts they were really thick definitely my favorite item there. That poppy seed bun does look super soft bill 😍 it really looks delicious making me hungry as always 😭🙌🏼
Looks Amazing.
5$ Is pricey considering it was like 85% full only
Thanks Dan! Might be time for a re-visit, looking forward to your vlog!
Bill & Lisa's food and travel vlog will do haha 👍🏼
Is it celery salt that is missing?
That's exactly what I was thinking!
Around 5-6 viewers mentioned the celery salt, that might be it.
@@billandlisa I think it's the brand of hot dog used. It did look different to me it was skinnier than the one from Chicago imo
Woohoo! 💛💛💛💛
Hey there it’s Khira have you ever been to San Antonio? You say you love Nolo but I think you would San Antonio especially near the canal area tons to do tons to see. Great Mexican food and October is a great time to go.
Yup, been to San Antonio once. Fun place, saw the Alamo, and we have a vlog on it. lol
did it have celery salt on it? those shakes looked yummy!!!!

You're always Top 10, Jay! Thanks for your support!
I've had Portillos in Chicago and in Scottsdale, to me it's the same.
I think it's great that it taste the same as Chicago! Nothing disappoints you most when the food taste different!
Totally agree, Winnie!
My personal preference is a straw with a spoon on the end. Now in 2020 we have sporks. Those were the days my friend.
Yum! How many miles did you walk in Chi-Town? A lot I bet!
A lot for sure. lol
Omg look so good
Nice video. Thank you and Take Care.
you guys are in my area!
Check out Mokoji Shabu Shabu in Costa Mesa
Korean Bbq "All that Barbeque" in Irvine
Or also checkout the "Diamond Jamboree Plaza" also in irvine, lots of foodie spots there! enjoy ya'll . Always look forward to your adventures.
Thanks for the tips!
What a teaser - "There you go. Your turn." - "Mesmerizing," She says.
"Hot off the heels, " He says. But he still had enough time to get a haircut. LOL
Latters you two.
Hey - who has the best dogs in Vegas? I didn't realize that Harrah's has completely been remodeled from the casino to ALL of the rooms. I wanna go - plus it's not crowded.
Never went on a hot dog crawl in Vegas. There's a Dirt Dog at the Linq Promenade, maybe we'll have to check it out.
Awesome food video!!!!! Have an Amazing day🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
I heard a Portillos was opening in Michigan.
YaaaaY!!! So happy you got the Chocolate Cake Shake!!!
It's so good!
Also welcome back to California ! You should compare the weather difference 😂
Chicago had the better weather compared to today. lol
Bill & Lisa's food and travel vlog hmmm that’s coincidental 😂
I am all about the chocolate cake shake!
Can they turn the music up? Now I want a Chicago style dog.
Love the beef and the hotdogs i never had the milkshake before it looked good.
You guys picked up some tans in Chicago! Have you ever been to danny trejo tacos or heard of this chain? Would love your thoughts on how they taste!
Been to Trejo Tacos in LA a while back when the first opened. It was good!
@@billandlisa I'm going to have to lookup the video. Very interested in how their tacos rank with tacos el gordo.
I have been to Portillos in Chicago and in Buena Park (since I grew up in Chicago and now live close to Buena Park) and to me the hotdog in Buena Park is very close to the taste in the Chicago area but the hot dog in Buena Park is a little drier. Each Portillos in the Chicago area does have slight differences (for example I go to the Portillos in Skokie) in taste. The other things that are good in Portillos are the Chocolate Cake, Salads, Maxwell street Polish and the Salads.
Two times the charm!!
Hi guys 🤙 question when are u guys gonna do an all day Mexican food street tacos slash burritos , nachos extreme? 😁👍 If u live in So 😎CaL u gotta do the street tacos😄
We have 3 LA birria tacos blogs, no burritos/nachos yet.
To me they both tastes the same, Loved it.
The one in Moreno Valley is just like the ones in Chicago
Chicagoan here. I eat at Portillos all the time. Love it. The hot dog in California Portillos looks longer than what we get here. Portillos uses Vienna hot dogs exclusively, Vienna is the Chicago hot dog and the only one that should ever be associated with a true Chicago dog. Vienna dogs have that certain spice and flavor that is instantly recognizable. By the way don’t eat the sport pepper separately, leave it on the dog, that dog has been dragged thru the garden and meant to stay that way. Love your videos!
Maybe on the Vienna hot dog, the one we had here didn't quite have that snappy snap.
Lisa is a supertaster!
2023 Portillo's is in TEXAS... North Dallas and Coming Soon to Houston. I was Made in Chicago, IL. (southside)
Been to the one at Moreno Valley too. -
Nice video. I think it’s almost the same as Chicago but as a Orange County guy, I will take Chicago over Buena Park, California because of Chicago style atmosphere in other cities that served Chicago style food and drinks and food and drink quality.
The Midwest: we have some tasty stick to yer ribs food. Now you need to visit Michigan and get some Detroit style pizza! 🍕😁👍And Coney dogs! And all the delicious local beer. (I ❤️ that you two are my people: beer people)
Lisa, we went to Detroit last year, check out our vlog. We went to Buddy's for their square pies, and American Coney Island and Lafayette's Coney Island! Good stuff!
@@billandlisa You did? SQUEEEEE! I'll definitely check it out. Thanks!
You may be missing the Celery Salt, which is a major ingredient in the construction Of a True Chicago Dog..., says a guy from NYC.....,
Quite possible, Southside OG.
I used to travel to Chicago, for work a lot, not so much anymore, but every time I went I had to get Portillos, Nothing I’ve tried has disappointed me, well maybe the tamales.... lol... live in California and I can definitely taste something different I don’t what it is, but does not feel the same....both locations are great but there is something in Chicago, maybe the water...lol... I would also recommend the burgers really juicy, salads and chili dog, onion rings and fries
Thanks for sharing!
Road trip from San Diego....Thanks.
Our pleasure!
What a Fun Video... Chicago In Cali.. Lets find out
The seasoning... The wife knew something was missing
yall eaten too good making me jealous
Next time try the maxwell street polish with cheese. I like it with American cheese
Looking at both videos....the Chicago dog was a different color & more casing snap look to it...also the bun was as long as the dog...DEFINITELY onions & pickles were cut finely & better fitting ratio
Good eye, Jim! Not sure why the difference, you'd think they should be the same across the board.
Celery salt
The hot dog taste different because in Chicago they use Vienna Beef hotdogs and many chains use cheaper qualities. Vienna Beef hotdogs are the best Quality
😳😍😳😍😳😍 💕💕💕
