- Pabu had a quick catch up with Bumi & Kevin! As usual Pabu & Kevin refused to submit to eachother and end up rough housing 🤷🏼♂️
I cannot stress enough, Pabu is not being hurt despite what it looks like... The reality is that the behaviour shown is 100% not sexualised behaviour nor has it ever been, let alone Kevin or Pabu showing any sexualised behaviour other then to that of a female.
What actually happened was (this is where people remember play dates go for like 2hrs or more, I only post snippets) Kevin and Pabu played when they first saw each other but then Kevin soon lost interest like he normally does and wanted to play by himself or with Bumi's owner. Pabu being Pabu does not take no for a answer and constantly and continually followed Kevin trying to get him to play, Kevin would receptively fly or run away only to have Pabu follow and get up in his face beep booping over and over and over and over. Once again Kevin exhibited over half hr of trying to get away from Pabu and do his own thing until he eventually snaps at Pabu and they squabble.
So what we look at is the dynamic and intent, Pabu is not wanting to fight he wants to play... Kevin wants to get away and is annoyed at Pabu for not taking no for a answer, as a result they squabble. In almost every species assertion of dominance results in both parties trying to have higher ground or be on top, being pinned or on the bottom is vulnerable. This does not mean it's sexual behaviour as even when two human brothers fight the goal is not to be the one lower, at no point is someone saying.... "that brother is trying to get on top, he must want to express sexual dominance and mate"...... thats weird lol and it applies to almost every species.
As Pabu was not wanting to fight he was in defensive mode, you dont see Pabu attacking Kevin but simply holding his ground. Just because Pabu does not want Kevin on his head or back does not mean he's thinking "im not a girl Kevin" as that implies it's sexual when in reality a logical thought would be "umm why you mad? why you attacking? dont touch me!"
I have uploaded many videos in where Pabu is the aggressor and you can clearly see Pabu initiating dominance and putting Kevin in his place (pabu is just as agile). If a real fight were to occur (which has happened several times between the two) Pabu would almost always come out on top as he always has in a mutual fight, though this does not mean either are injured simply that Kevin runs away and Pabu does not follow.

Remember these are not pet indoor parrots, they are free flighted and will always fly away when and if a situation becomes too uncomfortable.

I also took a slow motion video of their “dispute” which clearly shows there’s no actual biting (we would step in if there was obviously) but more just two boys bickering, much like when dogs “fight” and it looks scary though it’s actually just sound and show. Same applies here :)

Bumi is doing fantastic and is now going through a molt which is why he looks a little scruffy, actually all our birds are starting to molt hence Pabu’s crazy alfalfa crest 😂

Not much flying today, everyone’s being fat little potatoes and just wanting to hang out with us. This time of year is borrring lol also it’s getting so much closer for me to go pick up Roku & Korra from their leap frog summer camp! 😍😍 I cant wait im gonna crash tackle them into cuddles, even if they act like they don’t want it 😛

Oh and Bumi’s mum is getting a new turquoise baby girl for Miko! (As mizu passed away many months ago) plus we have new free flight birds being trained in the next coming months!

My Major Mitchell cockatoo Jasmine is about 5yrs old and she shares so many of the same behaviours as Pabu, and makes several sounds that are the exact same noises/expressions that he is making. This was remarkable to watch because it was like watching a video of myself playing with my own bird that I don't remember making haha.

great question, lucky for us over 90% of Australian natives are safe haha so if your not here I would probably take a look at what is around you, in saying that I do feel birds instinctually know what to avoid most times :)

Would your birds attack another bird or people trying to touch you??? Mine does. I can assure you he's worse than a guard dog. I suppose Korra does that too, being a jelly Nelly... LOL, I imagine that huuuge beak and talons and I just shudder in fear... You are my inspiration... I'm determined to rescue a big parrot one day... This cockatiel IS the best friend I can ever have. One day, I was looking at the window, a bit sad... And he came to my side, like, I'm here for you, mate, you are not alone. That nearly made me cry. He may fills my hair with seeds, he may poop all over the placer, he may scratch my arm, but I won't abandon him, as he would do with me. NEVER...
Roku and Korra would but not so much Pabu lol they definitely are on a whole other level! Roku is 100% my best buddy

I really want a greenwing macaw, but there is all the talk about getting a smaller bird first. So would getting a Sun conure be a good option for a macaw or just go straight to the macaw?
I dont believe in "beginner birds" notion as it instantly seems to put lesser value on that bird despite the fact it needs and deserves the same amount of time and attention plus still a 10-30 year commitment.
So Im a big believer in if you actually research and study up on the bird you want, your lifestyle and finances are able to meet its needs (im a firm believer large parrots need a cage/aviary which they can at least fly back and forth) and more importantly if the birds needs are being put before your own.
What I mean by that is soooo many people want a large parrot, when in reality they cant give the 5hours one on one per day everyday, have an aviary and or cage in which they can fly back and forth, have the $$ for avian vet checks, food, toys etc.
They know this but make excuses and get the bird anyway..... they put their "want/need" over the welfare of the bird and as a result it suffers and more then likely will be sold or rehomed only after permanent damage has been done (please watch ruclips.net/video/b-KdxI6b1_8/видео.html )
So if you have researched the bird and your confident you can meet its needs despite when life gets hard (which it 100% will) then that is the bird for you! :)

where are the two other loves of your life Korra and Roku? I seen they are in summer camp which i assume they are past their hormonal stage now? Since they haven't been out flying around, do they get winded when they go for free flight? thanks.
its still breeding season, I think people need to remember season is months not days haha they are still out flighted aviary as explained in over a dozen of the past video uploads in description :)
Pabu is taken out daily though, and Roku & Korra are in a very large flight aviary so would still be able to push out a 5min continual flight but would more then likely puff a bit more, remembering during breeding season they like to eat more lol
okay. i have to be honest, i never pull the menu down so i have been lately. : )) i know you try to explain everything in there but it is quite a bit of reading but i try to read it all. The short ones yes, the longer ones, i have been lacking in that dept. thanks though. hope to see them soon. Pabu is my favorite though so i am not missing anything. : )

Every bird owners should let their birds experience outdoor flying instead of just keeping them in the house for display.
awww I know you mean well but in reality this is not possible, free flight is not based on relationship or trust but on brain development and unfortunately majority of pet indoor parrots would not be able to do this and as a result panic and fly off. I think a realist goal would be to see owners stop clipping wings and allowing flight via harness and or large indoor area :) this is the next best thing :p if this has confused you I apologise! but the details are all found here www.adventuresofroku.com

100% no, he is trying to tell pabu to go away and defeat him. this is not sexualised behaviour. Kevin was constantly trying to get away from Pabu but Pabu continually and consistently kept getting in Kevins face (he just wants to play) but Kevin eventually gets annoyed and then he has a go at Pabu, Pabu is not wanting to fight so is in defence mode. In almost every species of the world getting higher ground is victorious and being pinned is submissive this does not mean its sexual in nature as 2 male lions, dogs, rats, eagles, cats etc all do this without it being sexual. Humans fight with the goal to have one on top to be victorious, does not mean its sexual :) hope this helps!

haha yes and no, in person Kevin is actually running away and not wanting to play with Pabu anymore but Pabu is extremely determined and continues to beep boop in his face over and over and over and over then next minute Kevin snaps haha
