    We bought this stone house in Italy during the pandemic in 2020. The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls 😊 The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls were easily taken down and the whole project turned into a heavy renovation/rebuild.
    Follow our journey as we turn this old stone house into a beautiful home 😊.

    It’s best to hang the wall sheeting horizontal against the vertical studs to prevent racking and increase stability, so it was a lucky mistake I say. My husband is a bricklayer/plasterer by trade. 👏💖Michelle 🇦🇺

    If you have offcuts of plasterboard, glue them to the back of the plasterboard inside the wall, it increases the sound insulation

    yes in the US standard drywall is 48" x 96" so walls are assembled with studes spaced at 16" and the sheets are assembled vertically as is--no cutting required. Also the mistake is compounded because now there is no horizontal stud to brace the drywall along the upper edge.

    There is a special tool called a drywall drill with a sleeve that goes over the screws and has a slipping chuck which prevents the screws from sinking too deep into the drywall or fermacell surfaces. It demples them perfectly so your plaster will cover the screws perfectly.

    Following you guys for a while, amazing transfromation! Since I recently did some work with Fermacell and insulation myself, a few tips:
    First: Cut and break the Fermacell. You cannot use the glue on a broken side, but with a little thinking you don't need to.
    Second: removing the glue: use a scraping-knife!
    Third: Try to use scissors when adjusting insulation.
    Keep up the good work en keep enjoying it!

    My husband hung drywall professionally for 30+ yrs & now our son does as well; with that & living under constant construction I've learned the following:
    a) you don't hang it vertically on walls, you hang it horizontally (so what you thought was an error is actually correct)
    b) you don't glue the sheets together because you'll be taping over all the screws & joints with tape & joint compound.

    • @ateliermavi
      @ateliermavi  Год назад

      Thank you! the Fermacell panels need to be glued together though, there is no taping 😉

    • @idontthinkso666

      Yo Lolo, you ain't in Kansas anymore. This is Italy, not 'Merica. And that ain't drywall. You don't mud & tape the seams with Fermacell panels. And as for drywall, you can hang it any damn way you please--including at a 45 degree angle--but there is just less waste if it's hung horizontally. Doesn't have a damn thing to do with strength.

  • @ptolemyauletesxii8642
    @ptolemyauletesxii8642 Год назад +1

    I'm a little concerned about the screws on the fermacell. I've been installing plasterboard for decades. I'm not familiar with fermacell, and maybe it's different, but you arent supposed to penetrate the paper on plasterboard with the screws. The screw should just sit slightly less than flush with the paper. If it penetrates the paper it loses its grip strength and cannot hold the board to the wood. Thete are special driver attachments that perfectly sit the screws. They are called dimplers. Your screws look like theyve all penetrated the paper. There shouldn't be any paper sticking up where you've put screws in.
    Stranamente il mio telefono ha deciso di cambiare il mio spellcheck a Italiano senza che me ne sono accorto. Mi scusi se ci siano dei errori nel mio post.

      @ptolemyauletesxii8642 Год назад +1

      @@ateliermavi Sfortunatamente, questa penetrazione di 1 o 2 mm non è neppure adeguato. Devono essere molto vicino al livello del superficie, solo una piccola frazione sotto . Sé penetrarono il superficie non riescono a tenere i panelli al legno. Appena rotto il superficie si deve rifarlo. Sé no, dopo qualche tempo i panelli cominceranno a muoversi e delle crepe appariranno. L'adesivo è utile senz'altro, ma non è abbastanza forte di se stesso. Questo detto forse il fermacell è diverso dal plasterboard normale. Non lo so.

    • @aljazkuzner
      @aljazkuzner Год назад

      @@ateliermavi Nice work! Im always exited to see the new episode. I would also suggest to get the dimpler. Cost nothing, but huge difference. Much faster, because the dimpler makes sure you do not get too deep, so you can screw much faster, and then at the end much less work is needed when covering the nut holes with the filling. Keep up the good work!

      For a few reasons: first to insulate acoustically, then to be able to keep the warmth in winter (at night for instance) 🤗

    Why do you insulate walls inside the house? I mean walls that are not towards the exterior stone walls.
