Hey, folks! So because I fell ill last week, a whole round of reactions got delayed for about 5 days. As such, I'm trying to catch up with some of those in this batch, after which I'm going to concentrate on the ones I intended to get up on the weekend (including the Friday- and weekend-regulars), followed by the "normal" Monday batch (which will likely be a few days from now. Bottom line, this next week will be off from the "normal" rotation but I'll try to get everything caught up and find my way back into the routine by next week. Cheers!
You know, I must have listened to this song so many times and yet again when I was listening along with you, it gave me chills yet again. I believe this hints at her feelings of being musically silenced in her efforts to pursue her career beyond working in bar rooms and cocktail bars. There are also Little Mermaid allusions but also some hard hitting lyrics. This is my second favourite song from an album with many great songs, my favourite is still to come, looking forward to that reaction
The bridge on this is amazing. A sort of present day companion to Precious Things. The abused teenager is a cynical adult who can recognize the dark humor of her present.
so glad you're taking this in-depth journey into tori's discography, and i'm looking forward to your thoughtful reactions along the way - overall, you won't be disappointed. the breadth and width of her musical talent and exploration, album to album = stunning!
Glad you’re feeling better! And yes, 100% The piano is central, lol Tori doesn’t just play the piano, she plays the thing that is an extension of her soul. She typically has three or four different types of keyboards around her at all times, and she’ll often play two simultaneously, it’s beautiful to watch! You being a fan of classical music will really help you enjoy the Tori ride, because those are her roots, she’s a prodigy. She could play Beethoven or Bach at the drop of a hat at a very young age but that’s not what she wanted to do, she was the youngest person ever to get kicked out of the Peabody Institute for “musical insubordination”!…by age 11 no one could contain her creativity … if you ever get bored search for Tori piano shopping on RUclips, I’m sure you’d enjoy it… and the more I get to know you the more covers I’ll be able to recommend to you because her taste in what she covers and how she covers it is always immaculate, and most of them are done live during tours so you won’t find them on her studio albums… but they’re just as much a part of who she is in my opinion, and I can tell you’re gonna become a huge fan so I know you’ll want to know about them…✌😎✨
Yeah she'll play a piano and have a keyboard behind her. She'll occasionally turn around and straddle the bench and play the piano with one hand and the keyboard with the other.
I can’t really say what this means to me… this song. For me, her story isn’t mine, but something also happened to me that this, this means……everything.
I heard an interview clip about this song recently where she described finally living for herself instead of for other people. It sounded a lot like neurodivergent people un-masking.

Cheers, thanks for sharing that, Kay.
