The matrix did horrible because it’s a horrible movie.. It literally shits on the trilogy in so many ways and it’s hard to watch a beloved franchise be destroyed by the Me Too movement
It deserves to flop. I hope it turns out to be the biggest flop in history. And I have a feeling I'm not the only one... The reasons you presented aren't correct. "Release date" and "No interest in a new movie". The reason is: the movie is terrible.
@@TheChillingtuba for the record, I still haven’t seen it, so I’m not using the movie’s quality until I’ve seen it. But I can tell you this: from Into the heights and The Suicide Squad flopping hard despite getting good reviews shows how much this release strategy was a bad idea. Not to mention all the other flops it created…
This movie is an insult to the name Matrix. It clearly was made because WB wanted to squish the last little money they could out of it and it ruined it's name in the process. This movie says the director didn't care and wanted WB to know how stupid this idea was. Very costly way to express your anger.
I worked on the 3 Matrix films in Sydney. I was really worried when only Lana was involved in Matrix 4. You see there's a magic between Larry & Andy / Lana & Lilly, that was the magic of the first 3 films. These two Brothers (now Sisters) are incredibly close. Larry was the thinker, Andy was the cool dude. Put them together and they make an incredibly creative force. Take one away and look what happens.
nah, things are just better before those two grown ass men went batshit crazy, also that's Warner brother's decision to make the sequel,I think Andy just done the better choice for not stepped into the film.
Not surprised it bombed. Beyond the HBO MAX day-and-date release, dropping it less than a week after No Way Home was probably the dumbest studio decision I've seen all year. WB sent this movie out to die. Also they started the marketing WAAAYYY too late, the first trailer only came out 3 months ago, and the final trailer came out ONLY 3 weeks before release. On top of all that, the movie itself was a mediocre and completely unnecessary sequel. We were all content with the trilogy, they brought it back the wrong way, and at the wrong time.
Its not that nobody wants to see another matrix movie. Its the fact that the rumors of how bad this movie was spreaded so fast. This movie is bad. I mean really bad.
I completely agree. I wasn’t asking for another Matrix movie but when they announced it & released that first trailer I was hype AF. That hype quickly dwindled when da homie called & told me the movie was total ass & to avoid it like the plague. I watched it to confirm, I couldn’t believe that shit was worse than how he described it
I'd have to disagree. Others and myself would love another Matrix sequel... but it has to be a good movie. Hollywood has been dropping the ball the past few years. Bad movie after bad movie. I don't trust Hollywood to give me a good movie anymore. Bad movies don't deserve my money.
I think the idea of lead actors as box office draws is something that was relevant in the 90s/maybe noughties, but not so much now. People don't flock to MCU films because of the actors, they see them because of the characters/positive buzz about the films. People haven't bothered with Matrix because they chose to see Spider-Man first, but also the buzz isn't great which will undoubtedly have an impact. At the end of the day if Matrix 4 was a great film with something to say it would find an audience just like the first one did.
Someone made this point about RDJ and James Gunn threw a Twitter fit, claiming the MCU actors are what make the characters work. Wouldn’t be the first time James Gunn has said some stupid shit on Twitter though.
I think the Eternals' slower box office proves that point really. That had Angelina Jolie in it and actors coming off Game of Thrones but their names weren't enough of a draw because nobody knew anything about those characters or what to make of it because the trailers/marketing wasn't clear or convincing. I didn't bother with Eternals myself because the marvel logo is equally unmoving to me as who's in it if I don't like the look of a film. People used to say 'have you seen the new Stallone film?' but they don't say that about anyone anymore do they? nobody ever says 'have you seen the new Chris Pratt film?' I never hear it anyway.
@@BlazinNSoul I think that may have been the case for RDJ somewhat with iron man in 2008 (although he was hardly a bankable box office star), but there was a lot of talk at the time about the marvel experiment and it helps that it was just a great movie. Evans and Hemsworth were largely unknowns at the start though and since then the Marvel behemoth grew and grew. I just feel things have moved on and films need more than a big actor to succeed - whether that is being part of something bigger /good word of mouth / a jaw-dropping trailer. The matrix's failure isn't the lack of a 'bankable star' it's the absence of all those other factors.
The matrix 4 came out like 10 years too late, had this come out back in 2010-2011 it would have made a bazillion dollars but in 2021 the anticipation past its hardcore fans was meh.
It’s pretty simple. The move had some of the worst actions scenes in any movie. It also looked like shot on video. The supporting cast was terrible. Music was terrible. So word of mouth spreads within hours. So many people didn’t feel it was worth going into the theater during a pandemic.
the matrix 4 had terrible marketing and was a straight up dog shit movie to boot.... turned it off half way through and you couldnt pay me enough money to finish watching it either
I think you're pretty much wrong on everything. The matrix franchise is a HUGE draw for fans, that's the only reason it did as well as it did. But the real reason the movie didn't do well is because we live in an internet age where everyone knows how good a movie is immediately. This movie was absolute dogshit and everyone knew it immediately. And it's not just a little dogshit - it's total trash. It's not even a matrix movie, it's like a bad fan film. Even the dialogue in the movie confirms this - the whole part about how warner brothers made them make a sequel or they'd lose the license - it's basically lana telling us 'i'm sorry, but we had to make this even though we didn't want to'. I watched the movie for an hour and then I just turned it off. It's that bad. What do you think is going to happen to sales when on movie night someone loads up reviews of the movie and everyone is saying how bad it is? It's not like people live in a bubble where they don't have access to reviews before they choose which movie to see. The matrix movie would have made tons of money and the spiderman movie would have made very little money if the quality of the movies was reversed. It has nothing to do with anything else.
Perfect analysis. It was just a bad film and people learned that online and went 'meh'. Little action, sidelined Neo, poorly fleshed out new characters, soft reboot, no groundbreaking visuals, poor story. That's why it bombed.
Not true at all Spider-Man was gonna make money regardless because of the other Spider-Man and villains involved. Now it becoming a huge hit because it’s actually a great movie. The matrix just wasn’t good and was about 15yrs too late
@@nobro1975 That's a ridiculous argument. At the same time you're saying that people aren't tech savvy enough to read reviews, yet they know how to pirate movies? Doesn't add up bro. And there have been other better movies that released on HBO MAX at the same time as well and did better than matrix resurrections.
It’s almost like giving people the option to bypass driving to the theater and paying money to see a movie by watching it at home on a service they already pay for is a terrible business model.
I love the Matrix. I hated this film. The performances were uninspired, the fights were pathetic in their choreography, the cinematography felt like it wasn't up to the standards of its much older original. Cap that with poor character development (can you even name any of Neo's shipmates other than Bugs) and you have a film that pales in comparison in every conceivable way. I couldn't wait to see this and now I wish it hadn't been released...
I tried my best to like Matrix Resurrections because I'm a fan of the old trilogy (got the toys / comics / dvds) ... but you were right, this movie took a page from the The Force Awakens book, and the self-awareness and meta-feels of it added to it's downfall. I cringed when they were talking what the next "bullet time" would be, and when we saw it - it was meh.
Yeah...they just had to add that final "f**k you" at the end. The Catrix?!! WTF?! I absolutely adore cats, but that joke has no place in the Matrix. The humor in the film was just so out of place. I still can't get over it.
Matrix and Terminator franchises sure feel the same right now. Its time to start telling different stories in the world in tv format on streaming. Flush out some new stories and characters
This movie flopped because is bad. They did the same as with the saga of Terminator or Star Wars. Sequels that destroy the original movies, have nothing to say, are irrelevant and show more of the same but bad. I can not understand why Keanu accept to do this movie knowing the script. Actors are also responsible for accept to do this kind of movies and destroy the legacy. I think Keanu and everyone sold their soul for money.
Does no one want to acknowledge the fact that this was a bad movie? We're sick of watching bad movies and that's why it didn't make $$$. I love the original Matrix trilogy and have watched those films countless times. Even I didn't go to the theater to watch this crap.
HBO's terrible release strategy this year ruined what was probably their strongest yearly lineup in ages. Not only did it outright kill Matrix & Suicide Squad, but it really killed the momentum on their whole lineup. Dune would have made atleast 60-70 million minimum without HBO Max.
Again! Just like Disney with Star Wars like how can you FK this franchise up...everyone loves Keanu and sure the 2nd and 3rd Matrix movies weren’t great but this movie should have been freaking awesome...
The Matrix bombed because it’s a terrible movie period! These other reason you brought up contributed to its failures. But the word of mouth factor is powerful in determine whether a movie does well or not.
I think the interest was there, but for us Negative reviews changed our mind. We had pre booked tickets, then heard the early reviews and got a refund. We watched it on streaming a day later and only just made it to the end. Terrible movie and glad we didn’t invest the extra time and money in going to the cinema.
What hurt the box office numbers? COVID, HBO MAX, Spiderman, Nobody was asking for a 4th Matrix! I feel they should have waited until Spring and also theater only release. I liked the movie but can see why people hated it. Matrix 2 and 3 were not even well liked compared to #1.
@@andrewlaxton50 Yea, I don't know how that stuff works, but I don't know how many people subscribed or why they would release it on both. I'm a huge fan of the series, but I even watched it on Max.
Because both Neo and Trinity died at the end of the trilogy, Resurrections needed to open showing more of their resurrection by the machines. Similarly, a more fleshed-out depiction of the 'Machine civil war' that happened between Revolutions and Resurrections would have added the much-needed context that the current film was so obviously lacking. Not having more of the original actors or its original darker cyberpunk feel to instead replace it with a campy atmosphere throughout, led to that feeling we're all having over what was a landmark example of film making turned corporate mess, the very thing the original film stood against. Heard there's a sequel. Maybe we’ll eventually discover the entire Resurrections film was just another one of Neo’s dreams from safe within his pod. That would explain the disjointed, dream-like campy theme to Resurrections and allow the next film to be the real Matrix outside of the modal that was created not by Neo, but the (original) Architect. The line in Resurrections where Neo says "I've had dreams that weren't just dreams," as well as what the Analyst tells him about his current "reality" are strong clues. This would also mean Lana played with all our minds. It’s we that were in the Matrix within a Matrix in Resurrections. We dreamt Neo's dream. By the next film, I fully expect Neo to wake up from that dream to again become the One he still is and is still becoming.....
The trailer for the first matrix was filled with wall to wall action.and kung fu fights. The trailer for resurrection looked more like a TV show than an actual movie.
You have to also remember that every film released doesn't necessarily have the opportunity to play in every theater on every screen. One major theater (I believe it was a Regal) cancelled showtimes for Nightmare Alley to make room for more Spider-Man screenings. I work at an independent single screen theatre and we only play the biggest movies. We're not playing Mobius, didn't play Venom 2, and we certainly didn't play Matrix 4
'We can try and make all the excuses we want about why the Matrix didn't do so good..." but only one excuse counts, and that excuse is it's just not very good.
Whether this movie released solely in theaters or not it was bound to flop. This movie just boring. I fast forward at least at the last 20 minutes of the film. There was no direction in this movie at all. Not once did it hold my attention completely.
They tried the awful formula of copying the characters and plot of a previously successful film, that is NOT what audiences want to see. Give us something new and exciting, but still relate it to the universe. Then that’s a reason to buy a ticket. Bringing back a “young” Morpheus was just creative bankruptcy.
Yeah and a young Morpheus that is not as good of an actor does not work. If they were going to use young actor they should have de aged Laurance Fishborne. Let alone using a crappy young actor to replace hugo weaving as agent smith. If you replace great actors you need to replace with a great actors.
It wasn’t about the HBO release. Plain and simple the movie sucked. It had a crappy plot line. And because it wasn’t good no one talked about it at least not in a good way.
I think part if not most of the reason is because simultaneous release of the movie in HBO Max. If it is already in HBO Max, why bother to go to the cinema to watch it? It happens to Black Widow and The Suicide Squad (both are good movies IMO) and now it happens to Matrix Resurrection
Honestly, it was the trailers that kept me from going to the cinema. The trailers for Resurrections revealed the tone and overall feel of the film and they left me feeling very uncomfortable and worried. I know I can't be the only one who thinks the trailers were awful...
@@danjonmills Except it's really not that "woke". It's shit, yes, but people are throwing around that asinine word like broken records and it's irritating.
@@HEARTS-OF-SPACE because why the fuck was neo not able to fly at first but trinity was and she’s never been the one before but now all of a sudden she’s as powerful as neo flying all over the place, nah no thank you. Anyway you could tell by the trailers the movie would be terrible and it was. It was so completely different in tone & colour palette etc it didn’t even feel like a matrix movie. I was kind of digging the concept of game designer. Designed the 3 matrix games and now could be mentally unstable and not differentiate between fiction & reality. But then they just dropped that. Also different Morpheus & Smith was silly. So annoying because it’s a fantastic franchise they could have made a fantastic movie, but there was hardly any hand to hand combat, there wasn’t any other weapons like Samurai sword or whatever, the supporting characters / villains weren’t interesting, I could go on and on. Just disappointed, & I didn’t even go to the movies to watch it.
There were other factors at play that John didn't touch upon. First of all, the Omicron scare. With the new strain spreading like crazy, those who had the option to just stay home and watch HBO Max would of course take that option. Second, a majority of Spider-Man's base are all under 30 and grew up w/ the MCU. Matrix was before their time, so not much interest. Third of all, but quite important: the rating! Matrix was rated R. No Way Home was PG13 and Sing was PG. During Christmas week, when families are headed to the theater, do you really think they're going to choose the R-rated film? Not defending Matrix in any way, but had it been released back in Sept or Oct, and had it not been available on HBO Max, it definitely would have made far more on opening weekend.
@nWo A majority of hardcore MCU fans are under 30. That's quantifiable. Research has been done on it. I love the MCU and am much older than 30, but doesn't change the fact that MCU's largest audience is under 30 (and were thus quite young or unborn during the OG Matrix trilogy)
@@kinja73 Like me for example. The original Raimi Spider-Man released a few months before I was born, and I grew up along with every iteration that released. Heck, I remember watching Spectacular and Ultimate Spider-Man (the TV-Series). There's literally a whole life time's worth of spiderman (kind of) honored in NWH, while with the Matrix, it was not that prominent at ALL unless you were talking about rewatching it on DVD. Spider-Man has always had some form of a presence throughout the years, unlike Matrix, that took a whole 18yrs to comeback into the limelight properly.
@nWo Your argument is moot since it boils down to "Matrix is trash! MCU is perfect!". If you choose to ignore actual statistics that you can Google yourself, and instead make your judgement based solely on your personal bias and opinions, then your argument doesn't hold any weight, sorry.
Agree. To add, the omicron scare here in the UK increased massively in the days prior to the Matrix release.. 2 of my friends couldn't join at rhe last minute for the film because they fell ill and no-one would take the spare tickets because they wanted to quarantine before meeting their loved ones on Christmas Day, which makes sense
Kim is right. I thought Matrix was trash, and if it was a good film, more ppl would’ve heard about it and went to see it. John never accounts for the quality of the film being a big reason why it’s not successful. And it definitely is. Matrix Resurrections is the WW84 of 2021.
@@1titans Critic ratings were almost universally positive before the film came out. And while many ppl would’ve went to see it regardless if the critic scores were bad, not a billion dollars worth. @@og87 I’m happy you liked it that much. I’d rather watch WW84 myself and I hated that movie too. I’m more mad because the potential of a return to form with Matrix would’ve been so exciting to see. And overall many ppl are still liking this movie with that 60%. But it should’ve been 80% instead.
@@Mistah47 People like Spider-Man and it appeals to those of us who had Toby Mcquite first to Andrew Garfield to the new generation with Tom Holland. Matrix has a smaller fan base to begin with. Then following the Spider-Man weekend, then also showing on HBO max. Not necessary! Did you completely ignore the part in the video, where they literally talked about this subject?! (Aka bringing up cult classics like Shawshank Redemption etc…) What matters more is a goodwill from a word of mouth (aka initial public reactions) towards Matrix trailers and first reveals! That shit is a good indication as that what usually generates the hype mostly! The hype for Matrix 4 was non-existent since the day of first teasers…and it kept getting even worse with each new underwhelming trailer…
This movie bombed because it got crushed by people who saw it…the ACTUAL fans of the movie. I’m not quite sure why no one is being honest about this movie? Are we so afraid to be? The movie was trash…they “star warred” the matrix. We all know what I mean when I say “star warred”. That’s the reason. This happens to EVERY movie that they do this with. Ghostbusters all female version…bombed. That movie with the longest title ever from the DC universe…bombed. Star Wars by the end, was losing half its revenue at theaters. “Feminizing” movies, who’s only fans are male, is just not what you should do. This movie died because of word of mouth. People who saw it, told other people who were gonna see it, told them to not waste their time.
@@joelleblanc8670 “misogynist”, “toxic masculinity”…these are just words that are ALWAYS thrown around now if a man doesn’t like something that a woman might be a part of. I have a mother, a wife, a daughter, aunts, blah blah blah. I don’t hate women. I hate bad products. I hate that nowadays you HAVE TO like something in order to not be a hater. Serena Williams is an unbelievable tennis player. I hate tennis, but I watch her because she’s great…not because she’s a woman. Trinity in the matrix was a badass throughout the trilogy. The opening scene of her in the first matrix was awesome…not because she was a woman, but just because she was a badass. This movie, along with the same way they gave us the new hero in Star Wars, was about forcing an issue. They shrank what Neo has always been, just to try to make trinity feel bigger. In the process, they made both characters suck. I like the tomb raider franchise…especially the last one…it’s a franchise about a badass woman. But it’s a good franchise. Black widow…kind of a badass that everyone likes. Harley Quinn, hot garbage that’s forcing a narrative. I’m allowed to say “Denzel Washington as the equalizer is cool as hell” but “Queen Latifah as the equalizer…hot garbage that’s forcing a narrative”. If you don’t agree, that’s fine, it’s your opinion and you can have that. But I’d also say you’re being dishonest. Numbers don’t lie. People don’t pay to watch this crap. Not just men…women think it sucks too. A bad product is a bad product. The “Alien” franchise is based around Ripley…a badass female lead. “The walking dead” tv show gave us Carole, Maggie, Mishone (hope I spelled that right) all badass females. But watching any of them doesn’t make you feel like they’re awesome “just because” they’re women…it’s just because they’re awesome. We’ve all seen movies with male dominated roles that suck, right?! Of course we have…and we’re allowed to say that those movies suck. George Clooney Batman movies were awful. We can say that. But we can’t say a movie centered a woman doesn’t suck, just because it’s about a woman? Such a weird place we’re in now as consumers. This “Women equal good, men equal bad” narrative is goofy as hell.

I wish Neo had short hair again to distinguish him from John Wick. I honestly believe that would have made a difference. Also Spider-Man completely took all of the money, so theres that.
Rehashes suck. If they had an original good script which took the story forward, this would ve been their biggest hit in the franchise. With this shitty script, Brad pitt, or any other A list actor would've still had a flop. Dont make it about Keanu, its the hollywood corporation committee made movies that try to rehash and make a quick buck.
Who actually care for this Matrix movie? Gotta be honest, the director have not made a good movie in a while, Matrix 1 is the only good one of the three...
I saw it in IMAX opening day. I didn’t expect many people to come out. I’m actually surprised at the box office numbers for it’s opening weekend. That being said, I left the theater and said to my girlfriend that I think there will be a lot of negativity aimed at this film. Also, it’s beyond it’s days of innovative sequences. So, we were left with a lot of exposition. Which I don’t mind. There was a bit of an F you in it. But overall, I had no real issues with it, once I realized what I was walking in to. There is still hope for this franchise. I believe there are countless tales to be told from all sorts of perspectives. I also feel that it did lack an epic quality. The stakes not as high. I also feel as though this film was rushed in some ways. All that to say, I didn’t not like it. But I felt like there were certain elements that could’ve driven the story to epic proportions, had they concentrated on those things.
The Matrix has always been about dialogue. The action scenes are just, the pill, to help swallow the ideas being presented. This franchise has always been too deep for the sheep.
I saw it on HBO max, i fell asleep 2 times. MANY things are bad with this movie, but the very worst thing is its BOOOOOORING!!!!! also Keanu and Jada are BAD ACTORS

There are so many facets to why this didn't succeed and none of them have to do with cast and crew. I don't care how mant people it takes to make a movie. If they're behind the camera, they're just doing a job and a majority of them don't give a shit as long as there's work. No one's blaming the Keygrip for this shambles of a movie. im pretty sure everyone was just simply not interested in returning to this world especially after the fact that the first 3 films wrapped up the whole story
This is really my thinking too. The movie just simply wasn’t good, so people aren’t going to speak highly of it and it’s going to attract less viewers.
I believe people are completely misunderstanding the movie which is hurting the movie but not everyone can agree with me on this movie. It might make more sense on your second watch.
A very Valid point! The film is for generation X with some new nuances to comment on Gen Y, but it seems the majority either don't understand or refuse to try and think these Matrix films are only for entertainment without any messaging far below the surface.
Because it was a convoluted cluster F of a movie with terrible pacing and multiple technical movie making issues. Unfortunately LW used a 190 million budget to “subvert expectations” and “process grief”, instead of just spending a few thousand of her own money to see a therapist.

@@BlazinNSoul I think it’s because wasn’t ‘flashy’; lots of lights and destruction.
The matrix 4 came out like 10 years too late, had this come out back in 2010-2011 it would have made a bazillion dollars but in 2021 the anticipation past its hardcore fans was meh.
I remember seeing the trailer and my first thought was "Why?"
I liked it but it was not wanted or needed but they made it anyway.
This film has desecrated the original masterpiece.
The movie was awful. That’s why it didn’t badly. Period.
I can’t wait for The Director of this movie to blame that it is under performing at the box office on Spider-Man No Way Home
Tell us you didnt love the original trilogy without telling us you didn't love the original trilogy
@@nobro1975 you're right. But not all minds can be freed. Most beg for control. To be told what to do and what to like.
People looking for excuses for why this happened but the fact is.. It was a shit movie. I wish I could unsee this garbage film.
A sad parody, doesn't have 1/100 of the weight and the feel of the originals
I tried my best to like Matrix Resurrections because I'm a fan of the old trilogy (got the toys / comics / dvds) ... but you were right, this movie took a page from the The Force Awakens book, and the self-awareness and meta-feels of it added to it's downfall. I cringed when they were talking what the next "bullet time" would be, and when we saw it - it was meh.
Matrix 4 has the most depressing post-credits scene ever!!!
2 Reasons why Matrix struggled :
1 - HBO release
2- Movie itself was Dog shit
And it opened so close to spiderman
The 2 main reasons out of 50 other reasons it struggled lmaoo
@@KnightedKingdom that had nothing to do with it..... The movie was just bad....... Another franchise killed
@@bryanward9502 Definitely didn't help either but yeah I keep hearing it's bad as well
This movie flopped because is bad.
Hollywood has ran out of ideas.
@Peter from NZ I'm a huge Matrix fan, everyone knows this. I watched it and absolutely no one asked me how was it. Silence is loud also.
@Peter from NZ Precisely. I don't think anyone wanted a new Matrix, surely no one wanted Resurrections.
They probably had a prior contract that said they had to come back for more if Warner Bros wanted to make another
Can't believe how they screwed up the terminator movies , salvation wasn't bad in my opinion the later two were awful , just bad stories
Does no one want to acknowledge the fact that this was a bad movie? We're sick of watching bad movies and that's why it didn't make $$$. I love the original Matrix trilogy and have watched those films countless times. Even I didn't go to the theater to watch this crap.
I think it all comes down to the movie being really really bad!
Anyone who enjoys this matrix will pretty much watch anything .. it was a bad film, nowhere near the previous movies
Its simple the movie wasn't good... Period.
Correction, it's terrible
My cousin works at a big theatre. He said matrix had maybe 8 to 10 people per showing and Spider-Man was selling out in multiple screens .
You didn’t mention it sucked.
I knew this would happen. No film in December stood a chance against Spider-man No Way Home.
Showing the "new" Morpheus in the trailer without explanation why he is different was a big mistake....
This one makes 2&3 deserve an Oscar lol
If Matrix wasn't on HBO max I would not have even bothered to see it.
You can exercise in mental gymnastics all day, but the matter of fact is that Matrix Resurrections is objectively a bad movie.
Matrix Resurrections looked like someone made a tv series pilot episode with a 10 million dollar budget.
10 million is generous
It looked like it was filmed in 3 weeks. Pathetic.
Just watch The Matrix and pretend none of the other movies exist.
the matrix franchise went from a thought provoking movie to a complete parody of itself
It didn't flop, it's on HBO/Max also... SMH! When you give people an opportunity to see it for free..... They will...
They’re not gonna make their money back with HBO Max
The matrix isn't about kung fu fights -
You have to also remember that every film released doesn't necessarily have the opportunity to play in every theater on every screen.
So how did it lose to sing 2? Movie theatre will play it instead of matrix?
It had a low per theater average. Even on the screens it was on the theaters were mostly empty
'We can try and make all the excuses we want about why the Matrix didn't do so good..." but only one excuse counts, and that excuse is it's just not very good.
Dune was WB and had a $41 million opening weekend and did better than Godzilla.
Neo having long hair ruined it for me because you can tell it was rushed after John Wick and wasn't really thought out.
The blue hair in the trailer is the reason I didn't see it in the theater.
It was as I expected.
Half the time I was watching a movie when he was fighting that's what I thought that movie was John wick
In fairness it just seems like they have him with the same hairstyle in every movie he does onward (Always be my maybe, Bill and Ted etc.)
Movie was 100% trash. Actors had zero chemistry
Basically, if it's an old dead property is a POS woke cash grab.
@nWo Honestly, both of you are right
@nWo Your argument is moot since it boils down to "Matrix is trash!
The movie flopped because it was hot garbage and shouldn't have been made🤷🏿♂️ bad news travels fast
Kim is right. I thought Matrix was trash, and if it was a good film, more ppl would’ve heard about it and went to see it. John never accounts for the quality of the film being a big reason why it’s not successful. And it definitely is. Matrix Resurrections is the WW84 of 2021.
Matrix is much better than ww84
I don't think so. The Spider-Man movie was sold out before anyone even seen it. The theatre was packed to the brim.

Matrix Resurrections is a terrible movie.
I'm a huge matrix fan. I was super excited for this movie. But unfortunately the movie was pure shit. If it was a good movie it would of done fine
Dudebro, you sound super misogynist. Just saying.

What's with all the sandbagging? The movie was a woke pile of shit. Full stop. We have the internet and social media so we can get the word on the street fast.
This movie is a masterpiece of sh*t.
Simple Answer: THE MOVIE SUCKS
I wish Neo had short hair again to distinguish him from John Wick. I honestly believe that would have made a difference. Also Spider-Man completely took all of the money, so theres that.
Rehashes suck. If they had an original good script which took the story forward, this would ve been their biggest hit in the franchise. With this shitty script, Brad pitt, or any other A list actor would've still had a flop. Dont make it about Keanu, its the hollywood corporation committee made movies that try to rehash and make a quick buck.
I brought my whole family to watch it and now they wont let me choose the movie again
Who actually care for this Matrix movie? Gotta be honest, the director have not made a good movie in a while, Matrix 1 is the only good one of the three...
No sane human can say the The Matrix 4 is anything less then garbage
Unfortunately it’s just not a very good movie. I really wanted to enjoy it but it’s just not engaging, coherent or very interesting. A real shame.
I didn't hate it, but also didn't like it. That may be because I wasn't overly hyped about it's release to begin with. Overly meta, underwhelming action, but interesting concepts. Not surprised it didn't do well, but surprised at how badly it has performed
I’m calling it now. Avatar 2 will be just like Matrix Resurrections.
It's writing on the wall since Avatar has zero pop culture reference in modern time. Even matrix still had some pop culture reference
I would be really surprised if avatar 2 flops, or if it does massive numbers I think it will do good but don’t think it will land on either side of flop or blockbuster
@@dantedark714 with its budget, it’s gonna have to do big numbers to be considered a success. I just feel like Avatar is way past its point of relevance to do that.
The matrix movie just wasn't great. It had some nice ideas and a few nice bits but it didn't gel properly.
The word of mouth on matrix has been very poor and combined with HBOmax day and date killed it.
I'm so glad I watched it for free because it's suck that bad. If I paid for it I would never forgive myself.
I fell asleep 😴 in the first 30 mins of the movie
There are so many facets to why this didn't succeed and none of them have to do with cast and crew. I don't care how mant people it takes to make a movie. If they're behind the camera, they're just doing a job and a majority of them don't give a shit as long as there's work. No one's blaming the Keygrip for this shambles of a movie. If you follow this stuff you know it was HBO's Max's Pitch to attract subscribers. Sometimes the movie business kills the movie.
The only take away I have after watching the Matrix 4, it just wasn’t a good movie. Despite the name, the film still has to be good.
Yes. He keeps saying ‘there was no interest in the matrix’, like no, if people heard the movies was actually not trash, they would 100% have gone to watch it. Word gets around = low sales.
Anybody who saw this on opening night immediately told everyone they knew to stay the F away. The results tell us it is a shit movie.
im pretty sure everyone was just simply not interested in returning to this world especially after the fact that the first 3 films wrapped up the whole story
Make a bad movie. It fails. This is justice.
The movie is Trash that’s why
This is really my thinking too. The movie just simply wasn’t good, so people aren’t going to speak highly of it and it’s going to attract less viewers.
190m is the budget. What a mess.
Damn. Gonna end up being a massive lose
There’s interest in the matrix, it was just a bad movie
I doubt it
I feel like Keanu knew this movie was bad when he told people it was cool to stream it
I believe people are completely misunderstanding the movie which is hurting the movie but not everyone can agree with me on this movie. It might make more sense on your second watch.
A very Valid point! The film is for generation X with some new nuances to comment on Gen Y, but it seems the majority either don't understand or refuse to try and think these Matrix films are only for entertainment without any messaging far below the surface.
The Matrix should have been left alone. I LOVE John Wick movies and Keanu Reeves but it should have been allowed to stay in it’s wrapped package.
Because it was a convoluted cluster F of a movie with terrible pacing and multiple technical movie making issues.
