Two things: 1. No, I don't think it's wrong of them to call time and just say, "No, we don't want to do another one." Even if the film wasn't a flop, creators shouldn't be pressured into making sequels. 2. While it wasn't a mistake from the creators' perspective to make a fourth movie, because from the sounds of things Lana had some issues to work through going into it, Warner Bros. probably should have considered passing it on to someone else, because *this* long after the last Matrix movie and with the reception the sequels had, it's clear not enough people cared. Warner Bros. has had a pretty crummy 2021 and this is NOT helping.
Neo and Trinity were 100% dead at the end Revolutions and yet they pulled a Palpatine. To add insult to injury, Jonathan Groff is not Hugo Weaving, Yahya Abdul Mateen II is not Laurence Fishbourne. Those actors are sill alive, they have a fanbase and are irreplaceable. The story had ended, when is Hollywood going to understand that stories should have a beginning and an end?! This movie was a big mistake!
I'm one of the few who thought Reloaded was better than OG. A lot of people didn't get the philosophical parts, but they dumped it in 3 instead of expanding on it, suffocating it.
Microsoft said there'd be no more versions of Windows after 10. We're already on 11. So when they say they'll never be another Matrix, I expect another one in a few years.
Because both Neo and Trinity died at the end of the trilogy, Resurrections needed to open showing more of their resurrection by the machines. Similarly, a more fleshed-out depiction of the 'Machine civil war' that happened between Revolutions and Resurrections would have added the much-needed context that the current film was so obviously lacking. Not having more of the original actors or its original darker cyberpunk feel to instead replace it with a campy atmosphere throughout, led to that feeling we're all having over what was a landmark example of film making turned corporate mess, the very thing the original film stood against. Heard there's a sequel. Maybe we’ll eventually discover the entire Resurrections film was just another one of Neo’s dreams from safe within his pod. That would explain the disjointed, dream-like campy theme to Resurrections and allow the next film to be the real Matrix outside of the modal that was created not by Neo, but the (original) Architect. This would mean Lana played with all our minds. It’s WE that were in the Matrix within a Matrix in Resurrections. By the next film, I fully expect Neo to wake up from that dream to again become the One he still is, and is still becoming

This was made by Lana, half of the Wachowskis. If Lilly had been part of it then we would've had a completely different movie. The reason this one suffered is because it was not planned and made to cover the grief of their parents death.. This is the backstory that no one seems to actually know. The problem with the MATRIX is the whole concept is being done better in other IPs, and while Matrix was the like the first in the WEST, it is too common now. kind of weird that Warner Bros "play" themselves twice in 2021, once in Space Jam 2 and then in Matrix 4, next time you'll be telling me in the next DC movie, Booster Gold is gonna pitch his solo film to Warner Bros
the biggest missed oppurtunity of Matrix 4 was Neo standing in the street and not fighting the crowd of people if they wanted to do so much a nostalgic grab that was a perfect oppurtunity to go for it, it could’ve been a resemblance to the burly brawl…matrix missed on the action and upbeat music the of trilogy had
OMG!!! You just gave a perfect casting for katana, and not just cause im starting to really become a fan of Jessica Henwick but she just looks the part perfectly at least to me. But would she even take the role I don't know if she would see it as a downgrade unless they recast some people with a listers.
If they want to do another Matrix I take they should do the origin story of how the Matrix started with the machines turning on humans and everything becoming what it is today
I agree with Ray, that new agent Smith actor probably could be Johnny Cage. Idk if he's a great actor yet I won't judge him based on matrix 4 but at the same time mortal kombat is in a similar boat so idk if that idea is a good thing.
How do you mess up a concept like The Matrix? I really think people try to hard with these movies. They try and do too much. Just go back to the basics, make that world interesting again, and then go from there. A reboot is probably the best route with a brand new director. Should've done what The Force Awakens or Halloween 2018 and just go back to the basics.
I may be in the minority...but I thought that The Matrix: Resurections was an overall enjoyable film (Background: I am a gigantic fan of all three Matrix films, I have continuously played Path Of Neo back on the PS2 years ago and I also do love The Animatrix) The movie does have flaws yes, but I am willing to overlook the flaws to see the story that intrigued me....I understand anyone who doesn't like it and I respect your opinion, but I liked it and will buy it on 4K Ultra HD when it comes out...
I agree that Matrix 4 should have been made, in the sense that it reaffirmed beyond any doubt how creatively bankrupt Hollywood has really become, and also, that many fans are still so plugged into the Matrix that they either don't notice or don't care.
Matrix 4 should've been a new trilogy. There should be a new "One" and new characters. Neo being in it could work but "only" if he passes the torch to the new one. The other older characters should not be in it at all.
@@sonofsparda80 at this point if that happens we’re possibly looking at the matrix fanbase be more divided than it has been right now where it could get to “Star Wars” levels of toxicity.
@@sonofsparda80 If it happens to me it's important that Lana is apart of it. Hopefully Lilly comes back. If doesn't happen I'm fine with Matrix Resurrections being the last film.
they should've (still can) expanded on the animatrix type of stories. the prequels and other episodes of the matrix. instead of cutting of Neo Wick's nuts in favor of Estrogen Power.
The ironic thing is that the whole reason _The Matrix Resurrections_ was even made was because Warner Brothers kept pestering the Wachowskis every year to make another Matrix movie, even though the Wachowskis were pretty clear that _Revolutions_ was meant to be the final one (and they were totally right about that). Well I guess now Warner Brothers won't be bothering anyone about more Matrix movies anymore. Kind of a weird reasoning for John to say that it was right to do this movie. He's basically saying that they should've made the movie cuz Keanu Reeves is popular so it's a money grab. Isn't that precisely the wrong reason to make a movie, and wasn't that exactly what this movie was criticizing? Also why is everyone saying that a different director should have been found? Was the direction really the problem with this movie? And do you really want the Matrix series being handed off to someone else? Matrix has always been the Wachowskis' baby and I'm glad that, if nothing else, it was (one of) them that came back to do this movie.
Wait a sec, you telling me you with all the hype surrounding it and with the meta commentary of, “Warner Bros is down our throats about making more “Matrix Games” and they said they’ll do it with or without us.”, you’re telling me that they only planned to do one movie? I call BS, they just saying that cause the reception has been mixed (at best) or completely negative (at worst). I guess most of the audience are too “stupid” to understand the movie and that’s why they trashed on it. Also, that last part was sarcasm, oh well.
No the movie is too stupid, the director, writer, producer and studio are stupid enough, they thought the audience is stupid enough to swallow woke self righteous bla bla poopoo with not a single interesting scene or plot thread... Just because it's matrix. Scary Movie was a smarter and better parody.
First step to make a great Matrix movie, remove the Wachowskis, whoever produced and wrote resurrection from the next picture, and then get a real writer and director with an insanely talented DP to develop the next stage in the matrix universe.
Lana should have taken a page out of the Book of Zemeckis, and said "That's it, three's enough. Nobody is making more of these." Even through BTTF 3 was a POS, 1 and 2 were pretty good. A fourth or fifth or sixth? They definitely would have sucked, and Zemeckis knew it. I wish more directors had balls like that. I don't know if the the Wachowskis had that sort of leverage at the studio table, but Zemeckis did, and it was the right call.
I was over the moon when Matrix 4 was announced, my most anticipated movie of the year, but after watching it, they should have left it alone! Too many jibes made at the previous movies, too many cut scenes of the previous movies! Well known characters not as good as you remember! Naff soundtrack apart from the 1 they used in trailer, naff fights, bad editing at times & easily the most complicated Matrix movie! Neo Hardly does any martial arts, can't fly (Until last minute of the movie), all he does is block bullets & a force push when he's getting beaten up! I don't blame Keanu or Carrie for how it turned out!
I wonder if they killed it to prevent more sequels since 2,3 and even 4 could have been great with a few changes, Speed Racer could worked better if they would have made it with better pacing in comedy but remakes don't always work
Film did nothing to move the story forward significantly. Felt more like an attempt for a cash-grab with all the nods to scenes from the original. I mean, they were projecting scenes from the original film on the sets. It's like the Terminator films. Same story being told a millionth time in a different way, not taking any steps forward.
Greetings from London, Ontario.. I wasn't blown away by it, but enjoyed being back in that world again, and was hoping for an eventual sequel, if just to hopefully get Hugo Weaving back, and a big silly battle between an army of Agent Smiths and Bots
Seems to me that the main reason for the terrible Matrix movies is the Wachowski siblings. The concept for the Matrix is solid. But with the terrible movies Wachowski’s have made. Let’s move on without them.
They need strong editorial oversight to keep them grounded but let's be honest one is already retired and the other came out of retirement just to do this. They're done.
I remember hearing rumors that the Matrix concept was stolen and the way the sequels went downhill so fast and hard and then this mess makes me start to believe it was true.
They stole the concept of the first movie from Sophia Stewart. A black female author that has largely been forgotten while the matrix makes crazy money.

kind of weird that Warner Bros "play" themselves twice in 2021, once in Space Jam 2 and then in Matrix 4, next time you'll be telling me in the next DC movie, Booster Gold is gonna pitch his solo film to Warner Bros
the biggest missed oppurtunity of Matrix 4 was Neo standing in the street and not fighting the crowd of people if they wanted to do so much a nostalgic grab that was a perfect oppurtunity to go for it, it could’ve been a resemblance to the burly brawl…matrix missed on the action and upbeat music the of trilogy had
Yes! The new Agent Smith would be a great Johnny Cage and Jessica Henwick would be a great Princess Kitana!
Animatrix ever heard of that ?
@@kunalkishore2897 Maybe they can tell a different story with different characters from that time period.
Yes I have a even on the DVD but I would prefer to see a live action
I agree with Ray, that new agent Smith actor probably could be Johnny Cage. Idk if he's a great actor yet I won't judge him based on matrix 4 but at the same time mortal kombat is in a similar boat so idk if that idea is a good thing.
A film can bomb commercially or critically and still have a path forward but when both happen a film franchise done.
Lawrence Fishburne dodged a major bullet. It sucks. I was disappointed.
I may be in the minority...but I thought that The Matrix: Resurections was an overall enjoyable film (Background: I am a gigantic fan of all three Matrix films, I have continuously played Path Of Neo back on the PS2 years ago and I also do love The Animatrix)
The movie does have flaws yes, but I am willing to overlook the flaws to see the story that intrigued me....I understand anyone who doesn't like it and I respect your opinion, but I liked it and will buy it on 4K Ultra HD when it comes out...
Lookit you gettin' all matrixy and shit.
i liked the attempt… i respect the effort. enjoyed the movie, liked it didn’t love it…
HBO max show about bugz in 5 yrs. Calling it now
As it should be.
I agree that Matrix 4 should have been made, in the sense that it reaffirmed beyond any doubt how creatively bankrupt Hollywood has really become, and also, that many fans are still so plugged into the Matrix that they either don't notice or don't care.
Let Zack Snyder take control of this franchise and watch some sweet fight scenes and a killer story…
@_OBK_ remember he was also the one who did 300 and the amazing action sequences would be pretty sweet.
I can’t believe they said they were making this with or without the original cast
Even though I liked matrix 4 it should have never existed.
Matrix 4 should've been a new trilogy. There should be a new "One" and new characters. Neo being in it could work but "only" if he passes the torch to the new one. The other older characters should not be in it at all.
According to Deadline Hollywood it's going to happen. I'm happy if it happens.
Okay, fine. But you know what kind of decision can save it if it happens? Hiring a new director.
@@sonofsparda80 at this point if that happens we’re possibly looking at the matrix fanbase be more divided than it has been right now where it could get to “Star Wars” levels of toxicity.
I’m ready for the matrix franchise to be dead
@@sonofsparda80 If it happens to me it's important that Lana is apart of it. Hopefully Lilly comes back. If doesn't happen I'm fine with Matrix Resurrections being the last film.
@_OBK_ True
i wouldnt mind a prequel .. like the orgins of the matrix early days
they should've (still can) expanded on the animatrix type of stories. the prequels and other episodes of the matrix. instead of cutting of Neo Wick's nuts in favor of Estrogen Power.
@@LadyFairChildVideo tv show lol
@@LadyFairChildVideo i wanna see prequel with mike b jordan as lead
No kidding. They trashed it with Ressurections. I think Lana fucked it up on purpose.
he said lana not making another 1 he didnt say someone else wouldnt make another
Truthfully this movie felt like a breakup letter to the Matrix fans.
Good. They shat all over the matrix with that Resurrections garbage.
As awful as matrix 4 was, this news saddens me
What a weird and worthless way to end a franchise
Ashley nailed it, missed opportunity
Just fininshed Matrix 4 what a Meta Mess of a film! But Man, Kim is a BLESSING for this show! Subscribing!
I'm surprised Matrix 4 got funded after Cloud Atlas and the City of a Thousand Planets.
Well, considering how bad the reception to the new film is…..
The reception is not bad. I believe it would have made 40 to 50+ million if not on HBO Max.
@@wandablackwell5029 woulda coulda it didn't.
No. Never should’ve been made. Tired of studios only backing established IP to reap nostalgia bucks.
I wonder if they killed it to prevent more sequels since 2,3 and even 4 could have been great with a few changes, Speed Racer could worked better if they would have made it with better pacing in comedy but remakes don't always work
Maybe it will end up as a streaming show. The Matrix was a thoroughly decent concept; not served well by any of its sequels.
I like this movie more than the other sequels.
You know what? I think that The Matrix: Resurrections could have been a decent movie WITHOUT Wachowskis.
@@billymanziel5666😆 you still believe that BS. This was proven false. Keep up
@@gigib3936 Warner Bros isn’t sending you a check, gigi.
@@billymanziel5666 Did you even read her book "the third eye"? It doesn't even vaguely resemble the Matrix. It literally about aliens🙄 and she won nothing
07:22 well said 👏👏👏👏👏 (even the editing was not to the Matrix Trilogy standard) So glad you guys are as passionate about The Matrix films as I am - Keep your thoughts and views coming. Defo wish they put more love into making 4 as it really could have been amazing. Even Lana admits that she only made it to translate her own therapeutic narrative in the story which is not great for Matrix fans (see IGN interview)
Destroy the past, kill it if you have to.
No one asked for 4.
WB did.
Didn't they say they were filming back to back films 🤣
They should, have never made the first movie. I don't think people ever really understood, or could understand. It's just another superhero movie with kicks and punches to the world, it just hadnt come out yet in the 90's
Matrix Resurrections should’ve not open in December with Spider-Man No Way Home. Needed to bring back Lawrence and Hugo.
There was a story to be told but they chose the wrong story to tell. Machines at war?! Some machines became allies?! WB missed the mark bad.
Yup. They should do Machine VS Machine and may be exploring the concept of Compute vs Reckon , individualism , or Death .
He wouldn’t be saying this if the movie was a success
If there will be another Matrix movie, it will be direct VOD with Bruce Willis in it.
Funny
yup, matrix 1 was revolutionary and had me in surprised. matrix 2 has more action and was my favourite. matrix 3 seems so and so, it seems like matrix 1 and 2 were too big and they had problem closing it in matrix 3. never the less , the trilogy was great. matrix 4, i didn't even bother to go and watch.
Some movies don’t need sequels. The Matrix was one of those movies. With each installment the achievement of the first film is eroded. Please stop.
just reboot it in some way if necessary. the world of the matrix is huge. look at the animatrix for example
