I thought the video game aspect made complete sense narratively. For Neo to go back into The Matrix, he needed to have distance from his memories. He’s too powerful for his memories to be wiped, so they needed to immediately make him associate his memories with fiction. Did they push the limit with some of the meta references, yes, but the entire premise makes complete sense from what we know about The Matrix itself

Campea is being a hater with this film, I thought it was a great film and I loved the self-awareness and the idea that Neo created the Matrix as a video game I thought was great and I really want to see what they do with the 5th film!!! Plus NPH was an awesome villain in this film as well, I really want to see do more villainous roles like possibly a MCU film, I think his charisma and attitude in this types of roles would make him a perfect candidate to play The Beyonder in the Secret Wars film!!

That’s pretty much what this is. Lana ranting about the commercialization of an art house, groundbreaking film. The action was so lackluster and I firmly believe this was on purpose. The entire Matrix trilogy is about how much the masses WANT to stay plugged into the norm. It was a message of self determination hidden in a blockbuster. It’s why the movie going public hates Revolutions. The good guys are supposed to win and liberate everyone, but not everyone wants to be liberated. The bad guys turned out to be sentient beings made of metal, and not the bad guys. War depends on depersonalization of the enemy. Us versus them. If we realize the enemy is also human, it makes war less palatable. Revolutions ended in peace but not through victory. Through negotiation. Lana is giving us a generic action movie as a commentary on the corporate machine being the real enemy. It’s meta, yes, but sometimes you have to throw it right in the public’s face. The action was not the heart of the Matrix films, and without that heart, it fails.

I think my expectation for a franchise like the Matrix is that the fourth movie would push film making forward a lot like the first movie did. It would have been awesome if when they were in the martrix they used the unreal engine 5. This movie should have boasted the capabilities of movie making technology and taken it even further. That’s a huge part of this franchises pedigree that was avoided in this fourth film.

For a first time watch I give it a C+
I liked the self awareness and commentary about the industry, I ate that stuff up.
For the plot I expected it to be convoluted and thought provoking so I will of course have to give it a re-watch to catch all the little details.
My low grade comes from the action... The first trilogy is so visually compelling. To go from Yuen Woo-ping choreography to whatever this was is a disgrace. Gone are the long shots, the graceful stunts, and stylized movements. I mean in Reloaded they built a highway.... in this movie not a single set piece was exciting. You could tell this was point and shoot, no storyboards, and treated like more of an afterthought. Showing flashbacks from the earlier films to remind us of how much better the action was didn't help either lol
Also what happened to the SOUNDTRACK!? None of the thumping techno or eccentric beats are here.

I wish Andy had helped Larry with this one. I loved the original trilogy. Larry and Andy came up with one of the most groundbreaking concepts in a movie. I am one of the few that loved 2 and 3. The Wachowski brothers reshaped movies in a way. I say again, those guys should have collaborated on this one as well. I appreciate Larry doing another one though. I love reboots when done well, member-berries and all. So Wachowski brothers, if you read this, STICK TOGETHER ON MATRIX PROJECTS...please! Thanks again to Larry Wachowski for adding another chapter. Haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure it's just fine....even though it was only done by half of the Wachowski brothers.

So I've seen a lot of others talk about this in a negative light. I had to see it twice, and I feel the need to write a review on this.
Now in all honesty, if people were expecting this movie to be like the original, they were in for a rude awakening. If you know the back story, the fact that the Warner Bros wanted to make this movie with or without the Wanchowskis, and can understand the message Lana conveys throughout the film about modern conventions, corporate greed, and playing on nostalgia, you might appreciate this movie to an extent.
Having said this, I do wish this movie wasn't made, and the franchise I love wasn't resurrected. It is a dangerous thing playing with the past, especially an iconic franchise like The Matrix and the effect it had. I feel it was concluded after Revolutions, it left the door open to discussion, and fan theory which I liked. But as far as I can see Lana had no choice in the matter, and she made this movie to criticise those who forced her to do so.

I loved seeing Neo & Trinity being given a 2nd chance. The cast for most part good especially Bugs and NPH as The Analyst. The BAD: the whole META angle and saying Warner Bros screwed this films narrative and self-sabotaged it. The most interesting part was the Machine Civil War after the peace agreement and they barely touched upon that story line. I give the film a C- because the cast was awesome. 100% spot on about Oceans 12 where Julia Roberts character met the Julia Roberts real life actress.

  • @pedroaledo897

It's simple, first, you take out the green tone of being in a computer version of reality, then you bring back Niobe but Morpheous he's dead. I mean you could have had the new Morpheous that Neo coded, and still got back to IO and saw the real older version of Morpheous. He could have made fun of the coded version made by Neo, that would have been an acceptable kind of humor. And then worst of all, the whole point of Neo is that he is stronger and faster than the computer. Back in the original Matrix, that was the point that Morpheous made to Neo, when he told him, "They (the agents, computer) can never be as fast and strong as you can be", but here comes NPH the new computer program and he wipes the floor with Neo, but of course, Trinity smacks him like a toddler in the last seen, showing that she is in control, unlike Neo that could not move, and was being touched in the face and played with by the new computer program. Maybe Neo should first have come in at the end and slapped NPH in the face a few times, just to set things right, but no he could not even save Trinity in the Matrix from the bullet shot by NPH. The point is the storyline is good, but don't sacrifice Neo's abilities, just share them with Trinity, I'm good with that, but don't Emasculate him and expect the movie to be good. Not nice.

First and foremost, nothing can touch the original Matrix (1999), it's the best by a long shot. I think Reloaded (2001) and Revolutions (2003) both, while annoying to sit through. have some good action scenes. I was very nervous going into this film, because I didn't want to see another "Matrix sequel." Thankfully, I enjoyed this film (Resurrections), I thought self-aware humor was funny, I thought the action was good, the characters were good. Yes, the movie has problems with its script and world building (a lot of new concepts being thrown at you), but I'm thankful that I enjoyed it as much as I did. I gave it an 8/10, maybe when I watch it again it will go down to a 6 or 7/10. I'm sorry to hear that you all didn't like it.

In interviews, Lana constantly brings up how the Matrix set the trends for action blockbusters today (hence the "studios have no creativity" commentary) and therefore wanted to do something different but not allowed because audiences want the same thing over and over (hence the "it's in demand so WB is making this with or without you" and the "you fight to be free from the Matrix yet you actually like being in the Matrix" commentary)

Guess I'm in the minority, I really enjoyed it.
The biggest complaint I have is that the actual fighting scenes that don't involve guns or powers don't get time to breathe like the other movies. And it would be one thing if it was because they had to shoot around the actors. But we know that at least the 4 major players in the movie can pull it off so this seemed more to be a stylistic choice rather than having limitations to work with.
And that montage brainstorm scene for the sequel game fell flat for me and I couldn't help but think "is this supposed to mock how that even creators theory craft about the things fans talk about to get the audience that they didn't expect to have to come back. Not really knowing why the original worked. Is it a jab at how movies are now being made like the Marvel formula that more studios have adopted of having the writer along with a boardroom of executives breaking the story down, and because it's done by a committee it taints the original vision of the movie? Or is this a parody of pitch meeting?"
Other than that though maybe not really having any expectations of what the movie would be about helped since everything else was a fun time for me.

    • @williamcronshaw5262
      @williamcronshaw5262 2 года назад +1

The montage is basically a docudrama on the actual making of the movie. It's kind of funny to me because the first act is like a very trippy and not at all subtle commentary on the trend of nostalgia cash grabs set in the world of the matrix. But then the actual plot kicks in and the movie just becomes exactly what it was parodying.

This movie is one of the worst movies ever made. I fell in love with The Matrix. Reloaded I loved more then most. Revolutions I thought was the worst of the 3 but I still bought it and watch it. I also watched these movies multiple times in theaters. The 4th installment ruined the franchise. The story was terrible, just another version of the first 2 combined. The dialogue style was completely different then the first 3. The wokeness level was much more subtle then some of the modern woke films, but still there. The only good thing about this movie was seeing Sati as an adult. Everything else was just a repeat of the previous movies. They ruined every iconic character that was in the first 3, except Sati. An hour and a half in and it felt like I had seen nothing new. It's just a cash grab woke dumpster fire with a terrible plot, and a sub par special effects team. I mean this film even ruined bullet time. As far as I'm concerned, The Matrix is only a trilogy, and this movie was just something Wachowski did because she could. It's simply awful, and I'm one of the biggest fans of the Original. This, unfortunately, has tainted the entire franchise.

Honestly it is good to see both characters alive since I wasn’t a fan of them dying in the last movie

i read an article that said the director Lana Wachowicski lost her mum, dad and friend within 2 months a couple years ago, I can see why she wanted to come back and direct, the idea of wanting someone back in a period of grief is powerful. She channeled that into resseructing Neo and Trinity. Her sister did not want to come back for the same reason, she did not want to go into the past to deal with grief. I found that fascinating, 2 opposite ends in dealing with grief. I personally throught it was a decent movie, I will watch anything Keanu Reeves does

I actually enjoyed the meta story, and the idea of the machines turning reality into something in-universe to lampshade it and convince people it couldn't possibly be real. I also like the idea of Neo and Trinity being tied to the new Matrix in ways that are explained in the film, and how it changes their abilities etc..
My issue was the awful direction and boring-as-hell action. The movie sometimes felt like a conscious middle finger to the fans, honestly, even when I sort of liked where the story went. It just feels so off, almost like a satire of itself. I guess I don't even know how I feel about it lol

i also liked when he gets back to the real world he says "if this plug is real that means they took my life and made it a video game inside the matrix" which is exactly what a machine that wants control and wants get the last laugh would do. it was a little jarring when they're mentioning WB and stuff, but it did make sense, maybe the execution just coulda been a tad better.

Amazing film. I think one of the interesting things that the film highlights is that even though we don't have a real-life Matrix yet (though with Unreal Engine 5 we're only 1 or 2 steps away), even now we already live in an augmented-reality, in which art, literature, cinema, videogames, social media, all layer their stories over reality: everything from skyscrapers with adverts projected onto the architecture, to the news-feeds in Facebook on smartphones determined by google search histories. We live in an age of information-overload.

The fight choreo was weak, was often messy/hard to see, and relied way too much shaky cam. It was very telling that whenever they'd reference a fight scene from the OG film, the original scene was always better. Yuen Woo Ping's style and the camera work from the original were sorely missed.
Overall movie scores is a meh out of 10 for me.

  • @GeeVanderplas

I liked the movie, more so the first half. The story for the second part was very Matrix light, some cool stuff and interesting ideas but nothing groundbreaking. It lacked the visual flair of the original though. But that first half really worked for me. Meta stuff can be very hit or miss but it hit for me here. It would have been amazing if that was the whole movie, kinda like a romantic comedy where The Matrix really is a video game. But I probably am alone in that hahaha

  • @Andy-li2px
    @Andy-li2px 2 года назад +6

They should have not changed the fight choreographer, on the first trilogy they used "Yuen woo ping" and he studied all the characters and found out what Martial art style would be suitable for the actors. In this Matrix the actors looked like they were not prepared for the action sequences. if you watch the legend of Shang-Chi those fight scenes are solid. mission impossible II, the fight sequences were solid because they had John Woo as a fight choreographer, my point is action fight scenes without a good choreographer will destroy the movie as for the storyline, they were plot holes, the movies felt as a reboot more than a sequel.

But Neo making The Matrix games and Warner Bros being in the movie made some sense, like they're hiding in plain sight, using the truth and turning into fiction/entertainment is part of keeping people under control. I'm always saying that the people who didn't like Reloaded and Revolution didn't understand The Matrix at all. There is no separation. All of it is one movie with one story. And the way that it keeps unfolding is crazy, mind-blowing. Neo learns that they're all living in a false reality, and that there is a prophecy of a coming One; and he's that One. Then he learns that he's not the One, but he's the 6th in a repeating cycle of events that produces the anomaly called "the One;" and the "prophecy" isn't a prophecy at all, but it's a description of some things that were going to happen anyway, mixed with an event requiring a little bit of manipulation. Then Neo accomplished what he was supposed to by his own means. Resurrections continued where the 3rd movie left off. And it was very clever, in many ways talking about us, society today. But, as is true most of the time, a lot of people don't like having to think. Anything requiring thinking ability, even a little bit, like the Matrix movies, is quickly dismissed. But what can you expect from a generation that doesn't know the difference between they're, their, and there.

    • @colonelwhiskey

@@likeluptid I get what you're saying, the previous sequels only work as a combined trilogy, on their own and out of context can be looked at differently - with many criticisms etc. I thought this new movie did have some redeemable qualities and parts of it were genuinely very good action-sci fi moments. Overall as a story and more the delivery of it just fell flat i think in the end. What was your impression of it?
