    Ballad Of Subic Bay
I joined the Navy for sixteen years,
sailing the seas that brought me here.
For sixteen years I'm running loose,
for sixteen years, I'm a Seaman deuce.
    Horny sailors, all are we
for we must sail the seven seas.
One thousand miles we steamed today
to see our girls in Subic Bay.
Silver dollar on my girl's breast,
she's gone short time with Americas best.
One hundred men she laid today,
but only three in a normal way.
Take me back to my old joint,
my ship is anchored in Cubi Point.
And that girl I use to lay,
she's now the mayor of Subic Bay.
Silver dollar on my girl's breast,
an overnight, she does her best.
Of all the men that she's been with,
I'm the only one who caught that syph.
I joined the Navy; I don't like it.
Sailing the seas that brought me here.
And every time I sail away,
I long again for Subic Bay.
I long again for Subic Bay

Damn, the memories that brings back. 19 years old in 1972 on the USS Ranger, CVA 61.Olongapo was a hell of a place to become a man! I would love to live those days over again. It’s hard to believe it’s getting close to 50 years since then.

I have indelible memories of Subic Bay from the several ports calls there by my destroyer, USS EDSON (DD-946) during our WestPac deployment of 1971. If you've never been there, you really can't appreciate the song or the comments of shipmates on this post.

I was on the MarDet of the USS Oriskany (CVA-34) at the end of my enlistment in1974. Alava Pier was the only place we could tie up west of HI. The "American Lake" of the Pacific ceased to be once we lost our PI bases. Every Marine and sailor tied their heart to Olongapo. Still would love to go there, even with it not so safe there now.

I stood a quarterdeck watch with an SK1 back in 1972 on our first trip into Subic. He said his first time in Subic in the mid-1960's was an eye opener. He's pretty sure he would have died from all day and all night partying if it wasn't for his duty days when he could sober up, dry out and get some sleep.

You obviously never saw the pristine, manicured, and immaculate conditions during the 70's, 80's, and earliest 90's. then Pinatubo happened and R.P. (P.I.) Senator Estrada wanted $! Billion USD for the base lease.

@@williamcody5271 well agree on that. but that is just Olongapo and Subic have been becoming well known here in the Ph. but that boom olongapo had is just in the aftermath of the 2010s... when the former base had been opened up for investments. And further soon Olongapo I think will be further invested as the govt eyes several infrastructure investment... I may not like what might happen in the future but it feels good to see that at least the people bounced back on their feet after most of their livelihoods were wiped out after the base left.
There's still a lot of beautiful areas and still untouched areas around Subic if that's what you like; but you have to veer further from the city, and around the vicinity of Morong
